Chapter 235: Say That Again (Ch.235)

"W...with...whose perm...ission?!" Came that familiar lazy drawl and Neveah froze up completely, a cold chill running down her spine and it had nothing to do with the chilling night breeze.

Neveah had not picked up on the sound of a shift, a moment ago, Xenon was still in dragon form and it had only been a little more than a single breath.

Not only had Neveah failed to sense Xenon’s shift, she had not sensed any movement whatsoever but all of a sudden, she could feel Xenon’s presence right behind her and she could hear his quiet, ragged breaths.

For a beast of so great a size, Xenon’s agility always caught Neveah off guard.

Neveah considered her senses quite adept, as an Alpha King wolf, she could pick up even the slightest shift in the air and she had trained tirelessly under Alpha Dane’s guidance to sharpen her senses.

How had Xenon moved so quickly that even Neveah’s sensitive hearing did not pick up on his movement?

What was worse, Neveah had not gone far enough that she could even hope to escape Xenon... she was right within his reach and Creator knew she could do nothing about it.

Neveah did not dare turn around, she could only stand in her frozen state, her eyes wide as Xenon’s hot breath fanned right against her neck.

He was close, this time even closer than he had been a moment ago in dragon form.

But unlike his dragon form who only stared in silence, Xenon’s hand moved in a flash, encircling Neveah’s waist and pulling her back so she was completely pressed up against him.

A gasp of surprise escaped Neveah as she was suddenly flush against Xenon’s chest with his arm secured tightly around her waist so she could not move an inch even if she tried.

What was worse, Neveah should have tried... she knew she should have, yet she didn’t... she couldn’t.

The thought of moving away from Xenon did not even come to mind at this moment, as though her mind was suddenly too slow to comprehend a sane course of action.

And how could Neveah even hope to? It had been over a week since she had last set eyes on Xenon...last felt his warmth, his touch... and by the Creator! His presence...

’Was his presence always so domineering?’ Neveah found herself wondering.

’Did he always smell so good...’ Came another unwanted thought.

Xenon’s familiar warmth encased Neveah, his scent clouded her senses and Neveah bit down on her lip to keep her mind focused.

’This is heading in a rather unexpected direction...’ Neveah’s wolf thought to her.

The usual snarky and domineering tone of her wolf was now as calm as still water and it only horrified Neveah further that her wolf could display such calm in a situation where she should have been furious.

It became all the more difficult for Neveah to focus when Xenon leaned down further, burying his head in Neveah’s neck and breathing in deeply.

His hair grazed against Neveah’s cheek and having Xenon so close, Neveah was completely at a loss for words.

"With...w.. whose...permiss...ion?" Xenon asked again, his tone barely above a whisper, muffled against Neveah’s cloak.

With every word he said, his breath warmed the slightly exposed skin on Neveah’s neck and while Xenon’s heated breath should have driven away the chills of the cold night,

Neveah found it did quite the opposite, as a shiver ran down her spine...was it the cold? Or was it something else?

"I... Xenon..." Neveah stuttered out, unable to string her words together...or better still, Neveah had no words.

What could one say in such a situation? Neveah had come hoping to sway Xenon’s mind from his decision...how was she the one being swayed instead?

And Xenon had said no words beyond his baffling question, yet his every action were words enough.

Neveah had come here whilst knowing the dangers of facing the Black Fiend, yet why did this side of Xenon seem to Neveah like a greater danger than the beast from a moment ago?

More than her life, Neveah feared even more for her heart to be moved... there was no surest path to a great downfall than the weakness of emotions.

And with Xenon, it was a greater risk for just as Neveah’s heart strummed an irregular beat, there was a lingering thought... perhaps the only thought Neveah could fathom.

’Who does he see in this moment? Who does he truly wish to hold? Is it my name in his heart...or the name of another?’ Neveah thought, her hands clenching up into tight fists.

"You k...know...it..." Xenon began again, his words came out with a struggle, in broken bits, but Neveah could still understand them.

"Know... know what?" Neveah stuttered out nervously, wondering how she suddenly did not sound much better than Xenon.

"Who...you b...belong to..." Xenon replied in a firm tone.

He was not asking, there was no question in his tone. Instead he was telling, stating a fact he believed to be certain.

Neveah’s eyes widened even further at Xenon’s declaration and her mind reeled, the haze she had been momentarily stuck in receded and Neveah once again processed Xenon’s words.

’Who I belong to? Only I get to decide that.’ Neveah thought,

Neveah’s eyes narrowed slightly, she attempted to move away from Xenon’s hold but he only held on even more tightly.

"I do not belong to anyone!" Neveah countered firmly.

Xenon chuckled darkly as he spun Neveah around so she now faced him, her wide eyes staring up into Xenon own pitch black orbs that were narrowed possessively.

The emotions Neveah saw reflected in Xenon’s eyes were difficult to read and yet they were so intense that Neveah was once again left stunned.

"Say... t..hat again..n." Xenon dared.

Neveah opened her mouth to speak but before she could get out any words, Xenon’s head dipped down and his lips claimed Neveah’s in a searing kiss.
