Zombie Bodyguard-Chapter 1430 - 1427: Pointing the Way Through Confusion
The woman in black held the Green Frost Sword, her skill level on par with Ziqing from Qingshuang Pavilion, indicating her special status there, yet the person opposite her treated her with indifference.
Despite facing this cold attitude, the woman in black did not seem displeased, maintaining her original expression as she nodded and said, "Then I’ll be going back now."
"Hmm..." the person responded again with a nonchalant hum, without any significant reaction.
After handing over the items, the woman in black turned and left. Lin Tian retreated into the shadows at the corner, watching her departure before returning to the window sill.
Looking inside, he noticed the main hall was empty. Startled, he was about to search for that person’s presence when a voice suddenly rang out, "What are you doing hiding there, sneaky? Come out!"
Oh no, have I been discovered? Lin Tian was puzzled, even though he wasn’t skilled in Qinggong, he thought he’d hidden well enough. How did the person inside discover him? As he pondered this, he scanned the direction of the voice to confirm if he had indeed been caught.
To his surprise, the voice sounded again, "What are you looking for? I meant you."
Darn, I’ve really been caught, Lin Tian thought helplessly. Since he had been found, there was no need to hide anymore. After all, he felt he had nothing to be ashamed of and wasn’t afraid to come out.
Revealing himself, he walked into the hall, seeing the person squatting beside a table, staring intently at something beneath.
Curiously, Lin Tian followed her gaze and looked under the table, discovering a furry little creature with pointed ears, bright eyes, and snow-white fur.
At first glance, Lin Tian thought the furry creature was a dog, but on closer inspection, its face was sharper - it was a white fox.
Lin Tian’s appearance also caught the person’s attention. When she turned to see him, her expression showed a hint of surprise, making Lin Tian realize he’d misunderstood the earlier statement.
The person didn’t refer to him but to the little fox under the table. Lin Tian found it amusing to be lured out by something unrelated.
But upon seeing the person’s face, Lin Tian’s amusement turned into curiosity. In the dead of night, a white fox appearing in an old pavilion was strange enough, and the person before him was someone he recognized - the elderly woman from Qinglan Garden.
"Grandma, what are you doing here?" Lin Tian’s reaction was quick; he asked what crossed his mind.
He wasn’t making small talk but was genuinely puzzled about why she was there. Wasn’t she supposed to be managing the simple courtyard at Qinglan Garden?
Instead of directly answering Lin Tian’s question, the elderly woman opened a box. Inside were several fruits that Lin Tian couldn’t identify, surprising him.
The little fox’s eyes lit up upon seeing the fruits. It seemed eager to approach but retreated a few steps cautiously when it saw Lin Tian.
The old woman chuckled, shook her head, picked up a fruit, and tossed it inside. The round fruit rolled, but before it could stop, the little fox pounced agilely, securing it and began eating, looking adorable.
One by one, the old woman threw all the remaining fruits inside before standing up, placing the box on the table, and turning to look at Lin Tian.
"Young man, I remember you. You’re one of the three who checked in today, right?" the old woman said naturally.
Lin Tian, unsure of her intent, nodded and replied, "Indeed..."
Before he could say more, the old woman asked, "It’s the middle of the night; what are you doing at Qingshuang Pavilion?"
Lin Tian decided not to hide and candidly said, "I wanted to visit a friend, but the people of Qingshuang Pavilion wouldn’t let me in."
The old woman smiled and said, "That’s typical of Qingshuang Pavilion. It’s not easy for a young man like you to get in."
Lin Tian was intrigued. Since this old woman had likely worked at Qingshuang Pavilion for a long time, she might know how to get in, so he asked, "Grandma, you’ve been working at Qingshuang Pavilion for a long time, right? Is there any way to enter openly?"
"You’re making an old lady stand here talking to a youngster; isn’t that tiring? Help me over to the seat," the old woman said with displeasure, gesturing for Lin Tian to assist her.
Lin Tian, instead of being annoyed, felt delighted. She hadn’t refused to talk, suggesting there was hope.
Once seated, the old woman slowly said, "You’re right. I’ve been at Qingshuang Pavilion for quite some time. To enter, you need to prove yourself worthy. There’s no other way."
"How do I prove myself? Fight my way in?" Lin Tian asked, puzzled.
"Fight your way in?" The old woman paused, then laughed heartily, "Ha, such big talk! It’s the first time I’ve heard someone dare say they would fight their way into Qingshuang Pavilion."
Shaking her head, she continued, "To enter righteously, there’s currently an excellent opportunity. If you can obtain an auction invitation, it essentially proves your status. With that, Qingshuang Pavilion has no reason to stop you."
"I’ve heard about that auction too. It’s said that only major families and great Ancient Martial figures are qualified for invitations. For someone like me, with no power, position, or influence, I probably can’t even touch the auction’s doorsteps," Lin Tian lamented deliberately.
The old woman glanced at Lin Tian, as if seeing through his little trick, but said nothing and calmly replied, "Generally, that’s true, but it’s not without hope. If you can present a treasure enticing enough to be auctioned, perhaps the auctioneers might extend an invitation to you."
Treasure enticing enough? Lin Tian’s thoughts raced, realizing something. He smiled inwardly and thanked her, "Thank you for guiding me, Grandma."
The old woman responded with a faint smile. At this moment, a white shadow darted from under the table and leaped onto the old woman’s shoulder. It was the little white fox, seemingly satisfied after eating the fruits.
The white fox was quite intelligent, piquing Lin Tian’s curiosity. He was about to ask when the old woman preemptively said, "You don’t need to ask because I don’t know how the little fox came to be. One day, while I was sweeping the hall, I found it hidden under the table. On a whim, I fed it some offerings from the table, and since then, it’s stayed with me."
"Offerings? Are you referring to the fruits the woman in black brought?" Lin Tian asked curiously.
"The woman in black?" The old woman was momentarily confused by whom Lin Tian referred to, but then she chuckled, "Yes, those fruits only grow within the mountains, and she brings some out as offerings every now and then."
