Zombie Bodyguard-Chapter 1429 - 1426: A Chance Encounter at Night
Tang Ziqing glanced at Lin Tian without speaking, taking a step to the side, not to make way for him, but to reveal the black-clad woman.
The black-clad woman lightly raised her sword, a beam of moonlight cascading down, illuminating the blade, as the reflected light cast a shadow on Lin Tian’s face. The gesture was clear: if one wanted to force through, they had to first contend with the sword.
The atmosphere at the scene suddenly felt a bit tense, seeming as if a great battle was imminent. However, in Shen Danxi’s mind, it wasn’t considered a great battle but rather that this reckless young man would be easily defeated with just one sword strike.
"Lin Tian..." Before Lin Tian could act, Wang Wanxi suddenly spoke, breaking the tense atmosphere: "Lin Tian, calm down. I recall you saying that the Xiao sisters have all lost contact. Is Xiao Manxuan also at Qingshuang Pavilion? Although I don’t know why the little girl came to Qingshuang Pavilion, it must be for something important. If a conflict arises here, it’s probably not a good thing."
The figure of the Second Miss, youthful, beautiful, and charming, flashed in Lin Tian’s mind, and he couldn’t help but smile. Whenever he thought of this willful little girl, the evil qi in his heart always dissipated.
"Aunt Wang, the Second Miss came here for treatment," Lin Tian admitted frankly, since Wang Wanxi was here to help him, there was no point in withholding information.
"Treatment?" Wang Wanxi frowned slightly, puzzled.
Lin Tian glanced at Tang Ziqing and said simply, "It’s a long story. Once you enter Qingshuang Pavilion and meet the Miss or the Second Miss, you’ll understand."
After speaking, he took two steps towards the Nine-story Pagoda, in the opposite direction of the iron chain, indicating he wouldn’t act further.
"Lin Tian, you wait here. Miss Tang, let’s go." Seeing Lin Tian relent, Wang Wanxi also breathed a sigh of relief. It wasn’t that she feared Qingshuang Pavilion, but she was worried that making a scene now wouldn’t benefit anyone.
Only then did she understand her father’s words before the trip, that the women of Qingshuang Pavilion were indeed difficult to deal with. This was with the premise of having a letter; without it, she might not have been able to enter Qingshuang Pavilion at all.
Tang Ziqing turned and walked towards the iron chain, then gracefully leapt onto it. The chain swayed slightly, but her form remained steady.
Wang Wanxi followed, jumping down. The two walked along the chain, one in front of the other, showcasing Wang Wanxi’s impressive qinggong to Lin Tian once again. The graceful figures of the two women floated away, soon vanishing into the thick fog, like fairies blending into the Immortal Mountain.
Once they were gone, the black-clad woman stood motionless. Lin Tian gave her a curious glance, wondering if she stayed to watch over him.
Just as this thought emerged, the black-clad woman sheathed her Green Frost Sword, not sparing Lin Tian another glance, and turned to leave. But instead of returning to Qingshuang Pavilion, she walked in the opposite direction, soon disappearing behind the Nine-story Pagoda.
As for Shen Danxi, being an Outer Pavilion Disciple, she was not qualified to enter Qingshuang Pavilion. She glanced at Lin Tian and the others, speaking coldly: "Miss Wang might take some time in Qingshuang Pavilion. I’m returning to Qinglan Garden now. Will you wait here or return by carriage?"
Her words were routine, as this Outer Pavilion Female Disciple was indifferent to Lin Tian and the others, implying they could leave or stay as they wished.
Lin Tian didn’t bother to respond, turning directly to Ghost and Yun Xiaotian, saying, "You two go back first. I will wait here."
"I want to wait with Brother Lin," Yun Xiaotian insisted.
"Go back quickly. After midnight, this place will be cold with heavy dew. As an ordinary person, you can’t endure it," Lin Tian said firmly, his expression unyielding. He had a point; the unique geography of the canyon made it chillier, unsuitable for someone in summer attire.
Shen Danxi chuckled lightly, her tone somewhat dismissive. Then she turned to leave. Lin Tian ignored her, giving Ghost a knowing look. Ghost caught on, dragging Yun Xiaotian away.
The edge of the cliff emptied out in an instant, leaving only Lin Tian. The surroundings became quiet, with only the occasional firefly adding to the solitary ambiance.
The metallic clinking sounds rang out again, followed by a rattling noise as the stretched iron chain across the canyon slowly lowered and disappeared into the mist at the bottom, as though none of the prior events had occurred.
Lin Tian suddenly had an impulse to climb down along the chain to explore the canyon bottom, but he ultimately resisted.
He refrained from using his perspective vision to investigate, instead walking to the tower and waiting. An hour later, Wang Wanxi still hadn’t emerged. Considering it would take some more time for her to come out, Lin Tian decided to return to the ruins of Qingshuang Pavilion.
Though labeled as ruins, the pavilions were well-maintained here. Even after centuries of wind and rain, they only bore signs of weathering, not destruction by time.
These ancient pavilions, on such a night, held a solitary tranquility despite the absence of human presence. Ordinarily, such a scene might seem eerie, but Lin Tian felt it serene.
Walking through the corridors, one could almost hear them quietly narrating past glories. Amid the modern waves, Qingshuang Pavilion had retreated into the deeper mountains, eventually becoming a relic.
Crossing the second corridor, Lin Tian reached the front, just about to enter the main hall, when he suddenly heard some voices coming from within.
"Granny, here’s what you wanted. I brought it for you..."
It was a young voice, a girl’s, slightly husky with a magnetic quality probably due to not speaking much usually. However, the tone carried the inherent softness of a female, combining two disparate qualities into a voice with a unique charm.
Lin Tian was very curious about the kind of woman behind such an unusual voice. More importantly, who would dare to wander the ruins of Qingshuang Pavilion so late, undeterred by potential ghosts? Who was the ’Granny’ she mentioned?
He surveyed his surroundings, noticing the window grilles designed into the outer wall of the main hall. Lin Tian approached them and peered through the latticework into the hall.
At first glance, he spotted a young woman. On the second, he noted her attire and features: a cold-faced woman in black, carrying the Green Frost Sword, seemingly even more skilled than Tang Ziqing.
In front of the black-clad woman stood a person, but facing away from the main entrance, preventing Lin Tian from seeing their face. However, the back seemed familiar, as if he had seen it somewhere before.
The black-clad woman held a small box, its contents unknown, handing it to the other person. The individual accepted it unceremoniously, barely acknowledging the woman with the Green Frost Sword, as if they didn’t regard her at all.
