Chapter 90: Chapter 90: Rescued

She didn’t know where this was, but judging by her observation, it seemed to be within Crestwood’s range. The surrounding quietness was rather terrifying, and she dared not stay long in this eerie small courtyard, quickly running out.

Outside, there was only a path leading down the mountain. Melanie and the others probably descended using this same path. Though she might meet them again, she was more eager to return to Crestwood City and see Jacob Jennings.

She wasn’t wearing shoes and cut her feet on many stones while descending the mountain. Though these wounds would heal quickly, the instant they were sliced open, she still felt a piercing pain.

Thinking about the sudden changes in her body, May felt particularly scared. After being bled by that old woman, she fainted. She had no idea what had happened in between. Her body suddenly turned like this—it felt like a bad omen.

What should she do? She now seemed to want to return to Vincent Vance’s side quickly, hoping to sleep peacefully in his arms so that when she woke up, all of this would just be a dream.

After stumbling for over an hour, she finally managed to run down the mountain. There were a few scattered courtyards below; these courtyards visibly had residents. May was physically very tired and did not have enough energy to continue forward, so she approached one and knocked on the door.

Just after knocking a few times, a voice came from inside: "Who is it?"

Hearing someone shout inside, May immediately weakened, collapsing at the courtyard entrance and fainted.

When she woke up again, outside it was already broad daylight. Someone had kindly dressed her in a coat, although its style was rather old-fashioned, but at least it could cover her body.

A middle-aged woman came in holding a bowl of rice porridge, and upon seeing May awake, she said to her: "Young lady, you’re awake? Have some porridge first?"

May hurriedly climbed out of bed, thanking the woman while asking, "Auntie, do you have a phone at home?"

"I have a cell phone, but the signal isn’t very good. Do you want to call your family?" The woman kindly handed her phone to May, suspiciously asking: "You, a young girl, going up the mountain alone at night, for what?"

May took the phone and lied: "I came up the mountain to do some photography and got lost, that’s why I only managed to come down late at night."

"Heavens, so many mountains in Crestwood, and you chose to come up this one. Let me tell you, there’s something strange about this mountain, we usually don’t dare to go up there. Consider yourself lucky not to have encountered anything odd."

The woman suddenly lowered her voice and whispered in May’s ear, "There’s an old witch living on the mountain; she’s known for dabbling in strange things. But her fortune-telling is particularly accurate, just a bit creepy. Generally, no one dares to disturb her. You didn’t run into that woman, you’re lucky."

The old witch the woman was talking about was likely the cloaked woman who bled May and helped Melanie. Hearing this, May suddenly became interested in this old woman.

"Auntie, do you know much about the old woman on the mountain?" May wondered if her body changes could be related to that woman. If so, she might encounter her again in the future.

The woman shook her head and said to May, "Not much, but I’ve heard that woman has lived on the mountain for many years. No one knows exactly how long. When I married into the village, I already knew about her. Back then, the village was quite populated, but when she was mentioned, people would clam up as if speaking of taboo topics. They said the woman liked to practice poison magic, you know what that is, right? Just thinking about it is terrifying, so that’s probably why people generally don’t like her."

The woman finished speaking and glanced at the phone in May’s hand, reminding her: "You’ve been missing for so long, better call your family to let them know you’re safe."

Upon hearing this, May quickly picked up the phone and dialed Vincent Vance’s number. After May went missing yesterday, Jacob Jennings had already called Vincent Vance, who immediately flew overnight to Crestwood. Yet Crestwood is vast, with mountains connected endlessly, even with Director Lawson dispatching all his forces, their search yielded little result.

On the day of the incident, the hotel’s surveillance was damaged by fire, making it difficult to determine who had kidnapped May.

Vincent Vance was desperately running between the traffic authority and the police station all night, feeling hopeless. Just then, the police station called, saying May had been found.

He excitedly drove to pick up May himself, but because it was at the foot of the mountain, he left his car halfway and jogged to retrieve May from the farmer’s house.

Behind him, Jacob Jennings ran while urging him kindly: "Master, don’t worry, didn’t May say she’s alright on the phone?"

Vincent Vance turned to glare at him, said nothing, and kept running. He was too worried about May, feeling as if his heart had been ripped from him during her disappearance, causing him almost unbearable pain.

Jacob Jennings knew he had made a grave mistake, and Vincent’s icy glare shut him up, forcing him to catch up and run with Vincent.

At the moment the farmer’s door opened, Vincent rushed in without a word, scooped May from the bed, and kissed her fervently. At that moment, he wanted nothing more than to break her down and absorb her into his body so they would never be apart, and he could fully protect her.

The host stood nearby, making May embarrassed as she pushed him: "Don’t do this, people are watching."

Vincent didn’t care; nothing was more important than his woman now. He was ready to brush off any embarrassment.

"It’s alright, you’re my wife; who would mock you?" Vincent whispered as he kissed May’s lips. If it weren’t for her feelings, he would have kissed her passionately until the end of time.

"Stop being so improper and take me home." May hid in Vincent’s embrace, looking shyly at the elderly couple nearby.

Vincent smiled indulgently and politely said to the couple: "Thank you both for saving my wife." 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚

With that, he respectfully bowed to them, startling Jacob Jennings as he entered.

Hurriedly pulling Vincent up, Jacob Jennings exclaimed: "Young master, you’re being overly polite."
