Chapter 91: Chapter 91: That Curse

What is Vincent’s status, what kind of person is he? Ordinary people would be honored even to receive a glance from him, let alone a bow. Even though this couple saved May, in Jacob’s eyes, they were just ordinary people. Vincent’s grand gesture felt a bit excessive to him.

Vincent glanced at him and suddenly instructed, "Give them some money."

Upon hearing this, Jacob quickly took out his wallet from his pocket, withdrew a few thousand yuan, and handed it to the couple. "It’s not much, consider it a token of our young master’s appreciation. We hope you accept it."

The couple were honest people; their intention in saving May was purely goodwill, not for money. So, they hurriedly pushed Jacob’s hand away, politely saying to Vincent, "We don’t need money; as long as your wife is safe, that’s good enough."

Vincent smiled appreciatively, took the money from Jacob’s hand, and gently placed it on the table beside them. He said politely, "It’s really not much, but it’s a gesture from me. Please take it. I’ll visit you with my wife when I get the chance."

After saying this, he bent down to pick May up from the bed and headed outside.

In the car, Vincent pulled May onto his lap, his eyes never leaving her.

Feeling a bit embarrassed by his gaze, May gave him a gentle push and whispered, "Stop staring, I’m not hurt."

Vincent let out a soft sigh of relief, seeing that May had indeed not suffered any injuries. Only then did he tightly embrace her in his arms, apologizing to her repeatedly: "It’s my fault, May, my fault. I shouldn’t have let you go to Crestwood alone; I should’ve come with you."

May didn’t think it was Vincent’s fault; rather, she felt she had been foolish, deliberately feigning a stomach ache to stay and investigate her grandmother’s case. That’s when Melanie took advantage of her.

She snuggled into Vincent’s embrace, feeling the warmth and safety he provided. Listening to his strong and reassuring heartbeat, her previously frightened heart suddenly calmed down.

"Don’t blame yourself. It was actually me bringing this on myself. Had I followed your instructions and flown back, I wouldn’t have been kidnapped by my sister, and none of what happened thereafter would have occurred."

Vincent glanced down at May, a hint of anger flashing across his face. "So it was Melanie who kidnapped you. Rest assured, I’ll settle the score with her when we return."

May thought of the changes in her body, recalling Melanie’s terrified scream upon seeing the wounds on her heal miraculously. She suddenly shivered all over.

If Vincent knew she had turned into that, would he despise her? Would he think her a monster? 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Feeling May shiver in his arms, Vincent asked concernedly, "What’s wrong? Are you cold?"

Pale-faced, May clutched Vincent’s clothes tightly, silently shaking her head unable to speak. She didn’t know what to tell him, for she was afraid, afraid of suddenly losing Vincent.

The deeper her feelings, the greater the fear. If Vincent discovered she wasn’t normal, would he still be good to her? Would he push her away like Melanie, as if seeing a ghost?

Seeing that May remained silent, Vincent assumed she was cold and turned to instruct Jacob, "Turn on the heater."

Jacob glanced at Vincent, thinking, Knowing it’s summer, you’re asking me to turn on the heater? Isn’t this pampering your wife a bit much, young master?

But he was already at fault, and Vincent not blaming him was fortunate. How could he dare to complain? So he silently turned on the car heater to warm Vincent’s woman.

After the heater was turned on, May didn’t feel better; her body still trembled severely. Vincent, fearing she might fall ill from excessive fright, instructed Jacob again, "Drive to the nearest hospital first; May probably has a fever."

After speaking, he tightened his arms around May in an attempt to warm her with his body temperature.

May stayed in Vincent’s embrace for a while, feeling a bit better and too fatigued to stay awake. She closed her eyes and slowly fell asleep.

When the car arrived at the hospital, Vincent opened the car door to take May out. As he did, he accidentally tugged on her loose coat, slightly exposing one shoulder.

Seeing her shoulder exposed, he hurriedly reached to cover it. But the instant his fingers touched her back, he froze.

Jacob was waiting outside the car for him to come down. Seeing Vincent suddenly sitting in the car in a daze hugging May, he quickly asked, "What’s wrong, sir?"

Vincent looked up at him, his face suddenly changed drastically.

"Jacob, what did Mason tell you initially?"

Jacob looked at Vincent with surprise, hurriedly turning his gaze to the red dragon mark that appeared upon May’s back. His face instantly fell.

"Sir, sir, this dragon mark is?" He pointed to the red imprint on May’s body and asked tremulously.

Vincent took a deep breath, hastily adjusted May’s clothes, and when he turned to carry her out of the car, he softly instructed Jacob, "Don’t tell anyone about this yet."

Jacob knew the matter was serious and certainly dared not speak carelessly. As he followed Vincent, helping to bring May to the hospital for examination, he whispered a suggestion: "Shall I go and ask Mason at the police station later? See if there’s a way to resolve it?"

Vincent looked at May in his arms, eyes suddenly showing a trace of pain. He bent down to kiss her forehead and said solemnly, "I’ll go ask him myself. May can’t live her life in torment."

Mason’s words seemed like a curse entwined around Vincent’s heart, causing him sleepless nights.

After settling May at the hospital, Vincent instructed Jacob to stay there with her. He then drove himself to the police station to inquire about the Dragon Insect.

May’s grandmother’s case had yet to be closed, with Mason being a major suspect. Therefore, he was still detained at the police station and had not been released.

When Vincent saw him, Mason appeared more spirited than before because Jacob had once told him that if he revealed the secrets, they’d let Melanie go so this case could be quickly closed.

He even thought Vincent’s visit to the police station was to personally bail him out, so he excitedly asked Vincent, "Am I being released today?"
