Chapter 229: Chapter 229: Something’s Not Right

Melody White was fine before, but after Melanie Morgan’s car accident, she became like this. It seems that something he doesn’t know must have happened in between, causing Melody White to turn into a terrifying zombie-like state.

Melody White’s surgery lasted more than an hour and then ended. She died, died under Vincent Vance’s gun, with the bullet hitting right at her heart. The doctors tried to save her for over an hour but couldn’t bring her back.

Just as Melody White died, Jacob Jennings also arrived. Upon hearing everything that had happened to Melody White just now, he couldn’t help but softly say to Vincent Vance, "If Melody White really was bewitched to become like this, then it can only mean... that the bewitching woman must be in Silverwood City."

Vincent Vance thought so too, thus agreeing with Jacob Jennings’ opinion, nodding: ’I think so too. As of now, if this woman is really in Silverwood City, then we’re all in danger.’

"Yes, indeed very dangerous. When I was in Crestwood, I learned something about this woman. I heard that she is not only skilled in the Poisonous Insect Technique but also unpredictable, elusive. I’m just afraid that she could transform without being noticed, which would make it impossible for everyone to guard against her."

Vincent Vance furrowed his brow and glanced at Jacob Jennings, suddenly asking worriedly, "Do you think she might harm May Morgan?"

"I don’t think so. Seeing how things are calm with the old master now, he should already know about May being pregnant and cursed with the Dragon Insect and also knows you can’t bear to part with the child. So he’s deliberately holding still, slowly waiting for the lady to give birth."

At this point, Jacob Jennings suddenly looked worriedly at Vincent Vance again: ’If the old master’s life is less than a year, then this child of the lady is crucial. If she unfortunately miscarriages, the old master’s life would be over.’

"So, the old master is hoping she can safely deliver the baby, right?" Vincent Vance followed Jacob Jennings’ line of thought and said slowly.

"Yes, no one is more eager for this child to be born soon than the old master. Perhaps, the old master was afraid that Melanie might harm the lady, so he had someone eliminate her on the way, thus removing an enemy from May’s side and ensuring the child in her belly has one more guarantee."

Everything is because of May and the child in her belly, rooted in the old master’s greed. If there were no May, no Dragon Insect, none of this would have happened.

Vincent Vance turned to look at Jacob Jennings, suddenly finding himself at a loss for words. Jacob had been by his side for so many years, knowing him all too well.

"Young Master, if the only way left is to abort the child, I hope you can discuss it with the lady first, or else your misunderstandings will only deepen." Jacob Jennings was a wise man and naturally understood the complexities involved, so he tried to ensure Vincent Vance and May didn’t become too estranged.

Vincent Vance found himself in a dilemma, wavering: ’I haven’t decided yet. I don’t know whether or not I should have her abort the child. Jacob, you haven’t loved anyone, you’ve never been a father, you don’t understand that feeling, honestly...’

Vincent Vance punched the wall beside him in frustration, closed his eyes in pain: "I really can’t bear the thought of losing the child in May’s belly. It’s a child I’ve hoped and prayed for, and now I’m to personally end its life. I’m not willing to do it."

Jacob Jennings looked at Vincent Vance’s face full of anguish, feeling as though something was blocking his throat. Forcing May to abort the child, neither Vincent nor he could bear it, but what could they do? If they had to sacrifice either May or the child, preserving the adult was the most rational choice.

"Young Master, please look at the bright side. Some things are beyond our control." Jacob Jennings sighed slightly and advised Vincent Vance helplessly.

Vincent Vance’s eyes darkened at the thought of all he couldn’t make up to May. He unknowingly clenched his fists, and his voice gradually sank: "No, it’s that I haven’t tried hard enough. Jacob, for May’s sake, maybe I should give up some things..."

As he spoke, the cold gleam in his eyes was like a hellfire capable of devouring everything, sending chills down one’s spine.

Jacob Jennings had only ever seen this look in Vincent Vance’s eyes twice in his life. The first time was when he killed his mother, who had betrayed morals and love, and this time, who would he confront?

"Young Master, whatever you think, I will stand by your side to the very end."

Much like ten years ago, Jacob Jennings didn’t hesitate at all before choosing to stand by Vincent’s side, choosing to place his life in his hands.

The reason was simple, because his life was saved by him, so the phrase "to the end" was never said in jest.

Vincent Vance turned to look at Jacob Jennings, having never doubted his loyalty, not once. Sometimes he even felt fortunate to have such a straightforward subordinate as Jacob.

"Thank you!" No elaborate words, just a simple "Thank you" was enough to say it all between the master and his servant.

The two shared a knowing smile, but the rest went unspoken. Jacob knew Vincent was about to undertake something huge, something that if successful would bring fame across the land, but if he failed, he would lose everything. He also knew it was May who motivated Vincent to make this decision.

Ever since Vincent Vance had an argument with May on the way, he hadn’t come home all night, while May hugged a pillow and waited in bed for him the whole night, yet nothing came.

Several times, she picked up the phone, wanting to call Vincent, but thinking of the things Vincent had said, she became angry, putting the phone down again and again, before finally throwing it aside in frustration and going to sleep.

Initially, she thought she’d lock that bastard Vincent out tonight, not wanting to let him in. Yet he didn’t come home at all. Well, now he’s not only learned how to sleep separately; he dare play missing too, huh?

When she woke up and couldn’t find Vincent Vance at Zenith Villa, anger surged within her, and she barely ate any breakfast.

She had just managed to simmer down only to be provoked again when Maxwell Vance came knocking early in the morning.

Maxwell dragged Adam Owens early in the morning to visit, claiming it was to pay respects, yet as soon as he walked in, he had a face like a dead man, as ominous and bad-luck as could be.

Adam Owens didn’t really want to come since seeing May only made things awkward, with nothing more to add, but Maxwell kept pushing, and with their parents making it difficult for them, he had no choice but to come along to Zenith Villa with Maxwell. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

When May saw Maxwell and Adam approaching in their car, she quickly wanted to retire to her bedroom and avoid guests, but then on second thought, without Vincent around, she’d have to be called back down by the servants, which would be a hassle. Forget it, she decided to meet them reluctantly.
