Chapter 228: Chapter 228: Melody White Seems to Be Bewitched

"Forget it, don’t say anything, I’m tired, I’m going to sleep for a while!" May Morgan didn’t want to listen to Jacob Jennings speak because he was one of Vincent Vance’s people, always aligned with him. Whatever he said, it was nothing but excuses for Young Master Vance or praises of how deeply he loved her as the mother of his future children. She was tired of hearing that, alright?

Seeing May Morgan truly close her eyes to rest, Jacob Jennings stopped trying to persuade her. Not long after, the car drove back to Zenith Villa. Before letting May Morgan out of the car, Jacob felt uneasy and explained again, "Madam, I believe that regarding Miss Maxwell’s situation, Young Master Vance will definitely give you an explanation. Don’t be mad at him; saying some things out loud might not be good."

Jacob referred to the incident where May Morgan angrily mentioned Adam Owens. Reflecting on it later, May realized that saying such things was indeed wrong. Vincent Vance had always been concerned about her relationship with Adam Owens, and deliberately saying such things was sabotaging their marital feelings.

"I understand. Outside, take good care of Young Master Vance; make sure he’s not in danger," May awkwardly instructed Jacob Jennings.

Jacob smiled knowingly, realizing May’s anger had subsided, and quickly replied politely, "Don’t worry, even if it costs my life, I will ensure Young Master Vance returns to you safe and sound."

May didn’t like Jacob speaking this way and rolled her eyes at him in a huff: "You shouldn’t die either. Your life is as important as Vincent’s. Anyway, both of you just take good care of yourselves."

Jacob felt a warmth in his heart, quickly gave an awkward smile, and then closed the car door and left.

After getting out of the car, Vincent Vance went straight to the hospital to check on Melody White.

Just as Jacob said, Melody White at that moment had a vacant expression, not speaking a word, much like how Mason Morgan had been when he first came back—completely dazed.

Vincent took several glances at Melody White in the hospital room, then turned around to ask the police guarding her a few questions, but nothing made sense. They were discussing if Melody White, now out of her wits, should be sent to a mental hospital when suddenly, the nurse caring for her let out a scream.

Hearing this, Vincent quickly pushed open the door and walked in, only to see the nurse covering her mouth with a look of terror, trembling as she stared at Melody White.

His heart sank, and Vincent quickly followed the nurse’s gaze to see Melody White. Instead of sitting dazed on the hospital bed, she was clutching her face in pain, her head down, moaning.

And from the gaps between her fingers covering her face, sticky blood and flesh were slowly seeping down.

"What’s happening?" Vincent widened his eyes in horror, not daring to approach Melody White, and quickly pulled the nurse beside him, signaling for her to get out first.

The nurse was so scared by the gruesome sight that she was paralyzed, and if Vincent hadn’t given her a pull, she would likely have collapsed to the floor, unable to move.

Once the nurse dashed out screaming, the policemen guarding outside hurried in with their guns drawn, and upon seeing Melody White’s bloodied, blurred face, one swallowed hard on the spot.

This scene was too bizarre, as if Melody White’s face was being melted by high temperatures, a chilling sight.

"Young Master Vance, what’s going on?" Out of caution, the policeman didn’t dare get too close and instead leaned towards Vincent, whispering.

It was the first time Vincent had seen such a scene, causing him to frown involuntarily, saying, "I’m not quite sure either. I saw this woman’s face melting when I walked in."

"Should I call the police first?" The policeman suggested cleverly.

Vincent, also afraid there was some kind of poisonous insect at work, hurriedly prepared to exit the room with the policeman. Just as they were about to reach the door, Melody White suddenly fell painfully from the bed and crawled rapidly towards them.

"Help, help me!" Melody White grabbed the policeman’s ankle, looking at Vincent with her now melty face, begging in agony.

Vincent had never seen such a horrifying scene, taking a step back with disgust: "Don’t panic. I’ll get a doctor to save you."

To prevent Melody White from being controlled by some poisonous insect or similar, Vincent quickly tried to stabilize her emotions about to spiral out of control. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

"No, I want a face, I want a face!" Melody White had an unnervingly powerful grip, seizing the policeman’s ankle and, with a fierce tug, bringing down the strong officer.

Once grounded by Melody White, the policeman quickly kicked at her, but Melody White’s strength was shockingly great. Within moments, she had climbed onto him.

On Melody White’s terrifying face, a greedy and ferocious light appeared, clawing at the policeman’s face with rapid, terrifying sounds.

Her appearance resembled a zombie from TV, her mind fixated only on one thing: a face, a living face.

Seeing the policeman about to be disfigured by Melody White, Vincent hesitated briefly, decisively picked up the gun dropped to the floor by the officer, and fired at Melody White’s chest.

The shot, fired at close range, was powerful enough to jerk Melody White off the officer’s body.

After being hit, Melody White suddenly collapsed, unconscious on the floor.

The wound in her chest kept bleeding profusely, and if she wasn’t rescued in time, she might not survive.

Though she assaulted the police and appears incoherent, humane efforts dictate that as long as there are signs of life, she must be treated.

After Melody White was thoroughly subdued, the doctors and nurses in charge of rescue quickly arrived, lifting the unconscious Melody onto a stretcher and taking her away.

The policeman who bounded by Melody suffered no major injuries, save for some bleeding where her long nails scratched, and Vincent, worried he might contract some unknown virus, quickly sent him for a full examination.

From Melody White’s behavior just now, it’s apparent that something unknown was controlling her mind. Up to now, all Vincent could conclude was poisonous insects.

It’s known that poisonous insects come in many forms, including insect poisons and herbal poisons. Gu Masters have many specializations: some control insects, manipulating them for various purposes, while others use plant extracts to control life and death. Some Spirit Insect Masters can even control plants, making them attack humans like animals to achieve their dark motives.
