Young Master Vance Has An Enchanting Wife!-Chapter 153: Lying
"Don’t think about it now, you should go back and rest first. I’ll look for you later." After giving Jacob Jennings these instructions, Vincent Vance turned and went upstairs himself.
He gently opened the bedroom door and saw May Morgan cuddling the quilt while sleeping. Because she was too tired last night and went to bed late, she was resting deeply at the moment. Even when Vincent approached her side, May remained completely unaware.
Looking at the sweet sleeping face of the woman on the bed, all of the fatigue on Vincent disappeared instantly.
He dared not disturb her, knowing she was exhausted and frightened, so he hurriedly grabbed a bathrobe and went to the bathroom to take a shower.
After coming out, Vincent was extremely sleepy too, so he quietly got into bed, lay beside May, and held her as he fell asleep.
That sleep was incredibly restful for him. No matter what terrifying things he experienced before, as long as he could hold his beloved woman while sleeping, it was comforting and enjoyable.
May woke up from hunger, having been up so late and without breakfast; she couldn’t help but hear her stomach growl continuously as lunchtime approached.
Her stomach’s rumbling noise woke Vincent, who was a light sleeper and woke at any sound. Hearing May’s stomach grumbling first, he got up to check on her.
He saw May still lying in bed, not even lifting her eyes, feeling uncomfortable from hunger. She just turned over, grabbed a pillow to press against her stomach to temporarily suppress the hunger, and continued sleeping.
Such a lazy girl!
Vincent sighed helplessly, not wanting his child to go hungry because of her laziness. He quietly got up, went outside, and asked the maid to cook something for May.
Vincent hadn’t eaten for a day and night either, so naturally, he was hungry too. But thinking May’s stomach must be even hungrier, he didn’t linger downstairs much. Once the food was ready, he quickly brought it upstairs himself.
Vincent left, and May naturally felt a chill on her back. She opened her eyes uncomfortably, looked around, and dazedly stared at the empty bed.
Was that feeling of being held and sleeping soundly last night just a dream? Did Vincent not actually come back?
But why was the blanket beside her still warm?
While still in a daze, the bedroom door suddenly opened, and Vincent walked in from outside carrying a bowl of porridge.
"You’re awake? Come eat some porridge first; I noticed your stomach kept growling, you must be hungry!" Vincent placed the porridge on the bedside table, found May’s outer garment, and handed it to her, indicating she should put it on.
May fixed her eyes on his every move, then rubbed her eyes hard, seemingly trying to confirm whether everything she saw was real.
Seeing her like that, extremely adorable, Vincent couldn’t help but pinch her delicate, small nose, teasing her: "What do you think, are you dreaming?"
May thought she was dreaming because she couldn’t imagine Vincent suddenly returning. Last night, when she called him, he didn’t answer, and he didn’t reply to her messages—how did he come back after just one night’s sleep?
"Hungry?" Vincent sat in a chair opposite May, personally scooped a spoonful of porridge, and brought it to her mouth, signaling her to eat: "Your stomach was growling before dawn, making it hard for me to sleep."
May opened her mouth to eat the spoonful of porridge he offered, still feeling somewhat bewildered in her mind: "So, you came back earlier?"
Vincent nodded honestly, answering her: "Yes, I returned at dawn. Seeing you sleep soundly, I couldn’t bear to wake you. I lay beside you for a while; your stomach was so noisy I couldn’t sleep, worrying that if you stayed this lazy, our son would go hungry. So, I had to get up to prepare food for you."
May’s favorite thing was to sleep in; if she wasn’t awakened by someone, she could sleep through everything—even a world apocalypse. So, she felt somewhat embarrassed when Vincent teased her, hastily blushing and explaining: "I... I was so tired last night, that’s why I’m terribly sleepy."
A glint of heartache flashed in Vincent’s eyes. He put down the bowl, reached out to pull May’s hand, and embraced her in his arms: "Sorry for scaring you; I won’t leave you again."
May knew Vincent had no choice but to leave, so she didn’t intend to blame him. Besides, didn’t Victor Grant come over last night? She was fine, so she didn’t plan to complain to Vincent.
"It’s okay, I’m quite alright. Didn’t you ask Victor Grant to protect me last night? You’ve done very well." May leaned her head on Vincent’s shoulder and said with a smile. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
Knowing May’s generosity and that she wouldn’t really blame him, Vincent did feel a bit afraid last night. Thinking about it, if Victor hadn’t come, May might have been taken away by his grandfather by now, wouldn’t she?
"I haven’t done well enough. Last night’s incident was my neglect; I won’t allow such things to happen again," Vincent lowered his head to kiss May’s forehead and sighed as he vowed to her.
May suddenly remembered the video she recorded last night and couldn’t help but loosen Vincent’s embrace. With a serious face, she looked at him and asked: "Did you receive the video I sent you last night?"
A flicker crossed Vincent’s eyes, and he deliberately lied: "No, I was on the mountain last night and had no signal."
May stared at his face for a while, then blinked and chose to believe him: "It’s alright, I’ll show it to you later!"
The reason Vincent chose to lie was that he didn’t want May to make the video public yet, as it wasn’t the best timing.
But he didn’t want to explain too clearly to her, because she was stubborn. If he didn’t make it clear, she’d naturally think he’s trying to protect the Vance family, or bowing to his grandfather’s influence; neither situation was one he desired.
The best solution was to stall May first and thoroughly destroy those pieces of evidence.
"Alright, eat first, rest well after you’re full. I haven’t eaten either; I’ll go eat downstairs in a bit," Vincent deliberately brushed off May.
May didn’t suspect him at all, only remembering that Vincent hadn’t eaten either, she hurriedly grabbed the bowl from his hand, intending to go down together for a meal.
"You haven’t eaten? Then let’s go eat downstairs together; you can’t just feed me," May said, already carrying the bowl toward the door.
Seeing the chair at the door, she suddenly recalled Victor, and quickly turned to ask Vincent: "Oh right, has Victor left?"
Vincent smiled softly, walked over to grab the bowl from her hand, and opened the door for her: "He left, he left a long time ago. After I got back, I sent him away."
