Young Master Vance Has An Enchanting Wife!-Chapter 152: Victor Grant’s Arrival Was Too Coincidental
"Uh, I know." Jacob Jennings nodded confidently and quickly started describing the man’s appearance to Vincent Vance: "That man was probably around thirty years old, with a build similar to yours, as for the face..."
But as soon as he tried to describe the man’s specific features, Jacob’s mind turned to mush, unable to recall them at all. Normally, he had a good memory, but this time, for some reason, he couldn’t remember the man’s specific appearance.
"I’m sorry, young master. I can’t remember." Jacob thought for a good while and finally could only sigh helplessly, giving up.
Vincent Vance sighed softly, half-jokingly and half-seriously responding to him: "Could it be that someone cast a spell on you? So you can’t remember anything?"
Jacob smiled helplessly and said nothing.
He didn’t believe in ghosts and gods, but ever since he encountered this bizarre incident in Crestwood, he couldn’t categorically declare that atheism was the absolute truth.
Maybe it wasn’t ghosts but rather some mysterious forces they couldn’t yet comprehend. But... many things really can’t be fully explained by science.
"By the way, how many bullets do you have left?" Although Jacob couldn’t recall what the mysterious man looked like, Vincent still wanted to study the items he left behind; they might be useful in the future.
Jacob sighed helplessly and came clean to Vincent: "He only gave me two bullets. Maybe he had calculated everything beforehand, and that’s why he only gave me two?"
Upon hearing this, Vincent meaningfully pinched the piece of Fragrant Bone Wood in his hand and then took out the Amulet he got from Mason Morgan from his pocket, comparing the two items together.
The scent on the Amulet, though not as strong as that on the Fragrant Bone Wood, was clearly the same kind of material, only the wood on the Amulet seemed much finer in texture than that on the Fragrant Bone Wood, likely made from the heartwood.
Since this Amulet belonged to Mason Morgan, he must know its origins. Maybe when Mason wakes up, he’ll reveal some unknown secrets.
Two hours later, the sky was beginning to lighten. Vincent and Jacob descended from the plane in the early morning rain, rushing back to Zenith Villa out of concern for May’s safety without delay.
At that time, May was still asleep. Exhausted from the previous night and being pregnant, her body couldn’t keep up, and so she would likely sleep until noon.
When Vincent entered the villa, he immediately saw Victor Grant asleep on his sofa with a quilt. The servants were already up, bustling with breakfast preparations, and upon seeing him, quickly greeted him: "Young master, you’re back?"
Vincent gestured to her to signal not to wake Victor Grant, even though their relationship wasn’t entirely cordial yet. However, given Victor had watched over May all night, Vincent was still quite courteous to him.
Nonetheless, Victor Grant was a light sleeper and woke with a start at the slightest noise. The servant’s call was enough to jolt him awake.
"Damn, you finally decided to come back." Victor Grant abruptly sat up from the couch, rubbing his sore shoulder and complaining to Vincent: "Why the hell is your sofa so hard? It’s killing me!"
The nearby servant, unable to hold back, retorted: "Mr. Grant, I prepared a guest room for you. You’re the one who didn’t want to use it."
Victor glared at her and scolded fiercely: "I’m here to sleep. What if someone comes to attack you during the night? Just gonna wait for it?"
The servant was speechless, dared not speak further. Victor was notoriously ill-tempered, everyone knew this, and they didn’t want to provoke him.
Vincent waved the servant away, gesturing: "Hurry and prepare breakfast. Mr. Grant must be starving."
Victor quickly waved it off, indicating to Vincent not to bother with such formalities: "I won’t have breakfast. Just give me the money. My buddies are still in the hospital, and I need to go see them."
Vincent had just returned from outside, looking a mess, and hadn’t any checks on him, especially not such a large sum—ten million. Even if he intended to give it, he’d have to follow company procedures first.
"Rest assured, I won’t shortchange you on the promised money. But you can see, I’m also quite disheveled right now, and the checks are all at the office. I’ll have my secretary handle it and personally deliver it to you later."
Victor glanced leisurely at Vincent. Despite his clothes being somewhat intact, his face was dirty and disheveled, prompting a chuckle: "Where did you spend a wild night to end up like this?"
Vincent always cared about his appearance. If not rushed to see May, he’d never allow himself to appear as such before Victor.
"Ran into some trouble last night. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have asked you for help." Vincent succinctly answered him.
Victor wasn’t foolish, knowing Vincent didn’t want to talk, he sensibly yawned and stood from the couch: "I’m not afraid you won’t pay. Anyway, that eighty-million dollar diamond is still in my hands. If you don’t pay, I’ll sell it. Should fetch four or five million, right?"
Vincent had no intention of shortchanging him, so he glared at Victor warily, speaking threateningly: "That’s a wedding ring for my wife. I hope you protect it well; I’ll personally deliver the check to you shortly."
"That would be best. You better hurry up. Otherwise, I’m afraid I won’t have the leisure to keep someone else’s item safe."
Victor glared back at Vincent and turned to leave.
He left briskly, without even having breakfast. Jacob watched his figure gradually recede and asked Vincent worriedly: "Feels like Victor’s arrival is a bit odd."
"It is somewhat coincidental, as if he knew beforehand Zenith Villa would have issues."
Vincent had called Victor earlier, asking him to help, but Victor had refused categorically, knowing full well he was the type who said what he meant. That’s why Vincent didn’t play his hand but instead rushed Jacob to fly back to protect May. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Yet how did this guy suddenly change his mind? Said he wouldn’t come? And then he did?
Knowing Victor’s temperament, he didn’t seem the type to go back on his word, unless he later received specific news confirming something serious would happen at Zenith Villa that night.
Vincent shook his drowsy head, temporarily setting aside these messy matters. After struggling to return, wasn’t it just to go upstairs and see how his dear wife was doing?
