Chapter 428: 166 Strange Anglie

Fighting was forbidden in the marketplace, but a certain degree of spiritual power fluctuation wouldn’t trigger expulsion by the Law.

Old Brin was a Wizard skilled in Illusion Technique. He held a skull with Ghost Fire in its eyes. An invisible field of spiritual power emerged, creating an Illusion Realm out of thin air.

Carl raised an eyebrow. Such powerful spiritual power... A First Ring Middle Stage Wizard! No wonder Old Brin, being blind, has been untroubled in the marketplace for so many years. Most Wizards can never break past the First Circle Early Stage in their lifetimes. Becoming a First Ring Middle Stage Wizard in the Magic Forest is definitely a rarity. As for the Late First Ring... unless one provokes a Second Circle family, one can thrive anywhere. However, it seems the Six Rings Tower, hailing from the Kaliem Continent, truly is among the top forces. Tower Wizards almost all have a chance to become First Ring Middle Stage Wizards and, with a bit of heritage, can even be trained towards the Second Circle. This would be considered a fairy tale among other forces. Unfortunately, now my identity as a disciple of the Tower is in name only. As these thoughts whirled, Carl couldn’t help but sigh.

"Respected Legendary Knight." Harvey held a Longsword and performed an ancient knightly salute. "How should I address you?"

Carl’s eyes flickered. "Conni! You can call me Conni."

"Very well, Senior Conni." Harvey nodded, gripping his sword hilt and taking a charging stance. "Please be careful."

"Come." Carl reached out, a Knight Sword similar to Harvey’s appearing in his hand. "Let me see your strength. Don’t hold back."

"Alright!" Harvey nodded. The ground beneath his feet trembled lightly, and in an instant, he appeared before Carl.

A direct thrust! The blade of the Knight Sword was sharp, its thrust seemingly unstoppable, causing ripples to appear in Carl’s eyes.

This level of strength... It’s already quite good among Great Knights. And given Harvey’s young age, even coming from a Wizard Family, one can tell he has worked hard.

DING...

A melodious clashing sound rang out.

Harvey’s figure swayed. He didn’t retreat but advanced instead, twisting his body to drive a sweeping strike with his Knight Sword, the blade’s light flashing.

CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!

In an instant, the clash of metal was ceaseless, sparks flying within the Illusion Realm. Harvey’s figure attacked from all directions, his extreme speed leaving trails of afterimages.

Compared to him, Carl seemed much more relaxed. With one hand behind his back and the other holding a Longsword to parry, he occasionally stepped to move or swung his sword to block. He appeared slow, yet always managed to intercept the incoming attacks.

DING...

The thrusting Knight Sword was once again parried by Carl, whose own Longsword then struck out, sending Harvey flying.

Harvey landed, bewildered. His facial muscles twitched as he fiercely sprang up, shouting, "Again!"

He charged with his sword, his expression slightly manic.

Carl shook his head lightly, his gaze cold. His Longsword suddenly trembled, sending Harvey flying again. This strike even caused the Illusion Realm to waver, bringing the furious and frustrated Harvey back to his senses.

"I’m sorry." Harvey collapsed to the ground, his face pale. "I just... just..."

"You just don’t want to admit your own failure." Carl sheathed his sword and signaled Old Brin to dispel the Illusion Realm. "Does someone spar with you? And you always win?"

"Yes." Harvey pushed himself up, nodding stiffly. "Grandfather found some Knights and Wizard Apprentices to spar with me, but they never dared to hurt me, so I always win. I know this is wrong, and it’s hard to gauge my true strength, so I asked Grandfather Brin to find a tutor."

"No wonder your Swordsmanship is all offense with no defense." Carl understood. "Likely no one dared to truly challenge you during sparring, so you never needed to learn how to defend. Being continuously victorious and unopposed has made you unconsciously arrogant, making it unbearable when faced with failure."

Harvey opened his mouth, bowing his head in acknowledgment. The first thought after being knocked down by Carl wasn’t my shortcomings, but boundless anger. No one has ever beaten me! I’ve always been the one to bully others! Why? I must get my revenge! Such emotions surged, completely destroying his reason, which was why he had become so frantic and fierce. Of course, Carl, unlike those hired by the Walker Family, would not be so polite and delivered an even fiercer blow. That brought Harvey back to his senses.

"COUGH! COUGH!" Old Brin coughed lightly. "Harvey is a good kid. He’s just adopted some bad habits due to his environment, but once it’s explained properly, he’s willing to make adjustments. As for fighting... I don’t understand much about the Knight Path, but it seems that constantly attacking with no concept of defense isn’t quite right."

Harvey nodded.

"People are different. Some natures are suited to taking the initiative with strong attacks, while others are better at defense." Carl spoke, "Harvey... you appear humble, but you might not actually be. Learning defense is necessary, but you don’t need to force it."

He didn’t elaborate on the fight, merely waving his hand. "Let’s leave it at that for today. Go back now, and come see me again in a few days."

"Yes." Harvey responded, performed a knightly salute, bowed, and then left the room.

"How was that?" Old Brin watched Harvey leave and said with a smile, "The disciple I found for you isn’t bad, right? So young, and already a Great Knight."

"Great Knight..." Carl shook his head slightly. "Without opportunity, one remains a Great Knight for life. Without becoming Legendary, it’s hard to secure a place in the Magic Forest. This kid’s overly competitive nature means he definitely won’t be content sitting quietly at home. There will be trouble in the future."

Old Brin nodded.
