Chapter 76: Chapter 76: Cecilia Quincy Gets in a Car Accident

The unexpected turn of events in the banquet hall left everyone on edge.

Although the Jacobs Family isn’t the top echelon of the Northgarde elite, they have a legacy spanning nearly three generations. Ever since Elder Jacobs fell gravely ill and went abroad to recuperate, the Jacobs Group has thrived under Mason Jacobs’s leadership, doubling its market value within a few short years, holding a significant position in Northgarde.

Logically, even The Warner Family wouldn’t be so openly rude to the Jacobs Family, as it’s almost tantamount to declaring open hostility, isn’t it?

Yet, The Warner Family drove the Jacobs out just for that elderly woman?

Everyone attending this banquet was of notable status, and quite a few had heard in advance about the Warner Family inviting The Fitzwilliam Matriarch. Now, they couldn’t help but speculate: Could that unfamiliar elderly woman be Grandma Fitzwilliam?

But if that’s the case, how is it that the Jacobs’s ordinary-born former daughter-in-law knows Grandma Fitzwilliam?

Moreover, Grandma Fitzwilliam protected that woman so fervently, expelling the Jacobs for her sake.

For a moment, everyone’s thoughts were varied, and many seized the opportunity to approach Grandma Fitzwilliam. However, she seemed fatigued and waved them off, saying, "I’m old, can’t keep up the energy. You all enjoy, I’m going upstairs to rest."

After speaking, she patted Elara’s hand and lovingly instructed, "Elara, have fun. If anything happens, come find me upstairs."

Elara quickly nodded, "I understand, Grandma."

Grandma?

The present socialites keenly caught onto those two words.

Could it be that she’s already acknowledged by The Fitzwilliam Matriarch as a god-granddaughter?

That’s not entirely out of the question.

Walter Warner attentively accompanied Grandma Fitzwilliam to rest, while Elara looked at the crowd that still lingered around, fully understanding.

After all, gossip is only fun when shared; today’s incident was more than thrilling.

But right now, her mind was buzzing with questions, just wanting to pull her friends aside to sort through her thoughts.

So she grabbed Esther Carter and Zara Dalton, heading towards a quieter corner.

Those who had gathered around, hoping to find an excuse to talk to Elara, were left dumbfounded as she left.

Unaware of this, Elara sat on a small sofa, pressing her temples in bewilderment, "When we first arrived, Senior Warner intended to kick me out. But then they saw Grandma Fitzwilliam’s invitation and suddenly became very respectful."

"Just now, The Warner Family kicked the Jacobs out just because Grandma Fitzwilliam said so, and no one present dared to speak up."

She looked at Esther Carter and Zara Dalton in confusion, a frightening thought crossing her mind, "Could it be that Grandma Fitzwilliam holds a prestigious identity? How is that possible?"

If that wasn’t the case, how could one explain those two incidents earlier?

But Zion Fitzwilliam is just a salesman; if he were a wealthy family’s young master, would he have been in a sham marriage with someone like her?

And Grandma Fitzwilliam is clearly a rural woman who farms and raises chickens. How could she be connected to prestige?

Esther Carter cleared her throat, sat down beside her, and analytically said, "Isn’t there a possibility that Grandma Fitzwilliam’s friend is actually very influential? Didn’t you say that all these invitations were obtained through Grandma Fitzwilliam’s friend? Maybe Grandma Fitzwilliam’s friend is a figure that commands awe?"

Elara thought for a moment, frowning, "How could Grandma Fitzwilliam know such a high-profile person?"

Zara Dalton, sitting on her other side, offered a new perspective, "Perhaps that big shot is an admirer of Grandma Fitzwilliam? Look at how elegant Grandma Fitzwilliam is; she must have been a great beauty in her youth. Isn’t it normal for a great beauty to have a few powerful admirers?"

Elara still furrowed her brows tightly, "That seems plausible too."

Grandma Fitzwilliam was a stunning beauty in her youth, attracting high-profile admirers. Though they never ended up together, she became his untouchable ideal.

If the unattainable ideal needs help, a big figure stepping up aligns with logic, doesn’t it? Just like how Mason Jacobs is with Cecilia Quincy?

Esther Carter and Zara Dalton, seeing her convincing herself, both breathed a sigh of relief. While they didn’t know the origins of the Fitzwilliam Family or Grandma Fitzwilliam’s true intentions, they knew for sure that the Fitzwilliam Family didn’t want their friend to know the truth yet.

They also understood Elara well; if she found out the Fitzwilliam Family’s formidable background, she would likely distance herself, feeling repelled.

But with the Jacobs Family eyeing her like prey, how could she safely withdraw without the Fitzwilliam Family’s protection?

Thus, the two tacitly agreed to help Grandma Fitzwilliam keep this secret.

After figuring it out, Elara no longer dwelled on it, although she found it strange that many people were now greeting her warmly.

Some even handed her their business cards upon learning about her job and requested hers in return.

Elara was astounded by how amicable wealthy people could be.

Meanwhile, at the hotel entrance,

Rosalind Jacobs stomped her foot angrily, "Brother, what sort of backing does Elara have? How could she treat us like this?"

Mason Jacobs’s expression was cold, "That elderly lady must be quite significant."

What others speculated at the banquet, he had also considered.

But what left him perplexed was how Elara could possibly know such a figure. Given her background and surroundings, she should never have had the chance to meet The Fitzwilliam Matriarch.

Beside them, Kylie Dalton’s expression was equally sour. This was her hard-won chance to attend the banquet with Mason Jacobs. Her usual companions, who love to flaunt their status, couldn’t attend, making her presence all the more prestigious.

Even at the banquet, she wore her pride among the wealthy wives like a badge of honor. Which other son’s mother could claim such excellence?

Yet before she could fully bask in this glory, she found herself inexplicably escorted out?

The glances from those wealthy wives looked at her as if she were a criminal.

Still unaware of the unfolding events, she anxiously turned to Mason Jacobs, asking, "Mason, what on earth happened? Why were we asked to leave? Could there be an issue with the invitation?"

Cecilia Quincy quickly reassured her in a gentle voice, "Auntie, don’t worry. There must be some misunderstanding. There’s nothing wrong with our invitation. It’s just that Elara knows someone influential, and they might have misunderstood us, so..."

Upon hearing this, Kylie Dalton understood, "It’s that wretched Elara again, isn’t it? She’s become reckless, daring to disregard even our family?"

Cecilia Quincy soothingly said, "Auntie, your health is what’s important. Elara just got lucky, having met an influential person."

Kylie Dalton looked at Mason Jacobs, her face turning red with urgency, "Mason, I don’t care. You must make Elara give our family an explanation for this! Our family has become a laughing stock because of her; she can’t wash her hands of this!"

Rosalind also bit her lip and said indignantly, "That’s right, Mason, Elara has been getting more outrageous since she got divorced. It’s always one thing or another. I think she definitely has ulterior motives!"

Cecilia’s lips curved slightly, almost imperceptibly.

Although she didn’t attend the banquet, things turned out not too badly.

Mason pondered for a moment, his gaze deep, and said, "Elara won’t be able to make any waves. Even if she’s using tricks to get close to influential people, her status and theirs are worlds apart. She won’t be smug for long."

Mason couldn’t understand why he said this, as if by doing so, he could pull Elara down from her untouchable pedestal into the dirt.

But in the ears of the three women present, it was him expressing he wouldn’t let Elara off easily, which pleased them greatly.

Mason looked at them, "Mom, Rosalind, I’ll have the driver take you home first."

Kylie and Rosalind had no objections, but Cecilia hesitated and tugged at his sleeve, "Brother Mason, I want to stay with you. I haven’t spent quality time with you in quite a while."

Mason’s heart softened, but then he remembered those photos that had been taken of her. His throat constricted. Despite her telling him she was forced into those poses, the photo where Zayne Warner touched her hair showed her laughing brightly, without a hint of being forced.

After a moment of silence, he said, "You should go back with them. I need to deal with some company matters."

Cecilia’s eyes immediately welled up. She glanced at Rosalind and Kylie who were already in the car, biting her lip, looking sadly at Mason, and tremblingly asked, "Brother Mason, do you still refuse to believe me?"

Mason frowned deeply, "Cece, I said, that matter is already over."

Cecilia suddenly became agitated, her voice carrying tears as she said, "Is it really over? These days, you’ve been extremely cold to me. We’ve barely spoken a few words, you rejected my closeness, and Aunt and Rosalind also... All of you think I betrayed you. But did anyone think about how those photos came to be?"

She cried like a pear blossom in the rain, "Brother Mason, that night, it was Elara who arranged for me and Senior Warner to meet! She asked to meet up, and when I arrived, it was Senior Warner. Those photos were deliberately taken by someone she hired! She was trying to frame me!"

Mason was utterly shocked, "Is what you’re saying true? Why didn’t you tell me this earlier?"

Cecilia smiled sadly, "I just thought Elara was pitiful enough and didn’t want you to have a harder time with her. I felt guilty to her, if it weren’t for me, she wouldn’t have divorced you! I took you from her side, she has every reason to resent me. I just didn’t expect, not even you would believe me..."

Mason suddenly panicked and hurriedly grabbed her hand, "I believe you, Cece, how could I not believe you?"

Cecilia looked at him despondently, "But, Brother Mason, your lack of trust in me leaves me in despair... These days, you find even looking at me irrelevant... Perhaps only my death would truly make you believe me."

With that, she suddenly broke free from Mason’s hand and ran recklessly into the middle of the road!

Before Mason could stop her, a speeding car hit Cecilia hard, sending her flying and heavily crashing to the ground.

Mason watched the scene unfold, his heart felt like it stopped. He raced frantically towards Cecilia, his fingers trembling as he tried to touch her, "Cece! Cece! How are you? Wake up!" 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

Cecilia’s eyes were tightly shut, without a hint of response, and blood began to slowly seep out from under her. Mason stood there completely frozen, staring at the blood, unable even to touch her.

"Ah!"

He suddenly stood up and charged towards the driver who got out to check the situation, furiously attacking him!

The driver felt wronged, thinking to himself, he was driving normally and this woman rushed out suddenly, bad luck.

The two quickly wrestled with each other.

Kylie and Rosalind saw this scene, rushed out of the car in a hurry to separate them.

Soon, both police and ambulance arrived simultaneously.

Cecilia was carried onto the ambulance, with Rosalind and Kylie following in, while Mason and the driver were taken away by the police.

Creating a disturbance wasn’t a severe crime; Mason, worried about Cecilia’s safety, actively sought forgiveness, paid a hefty compensation, and listened to a two-hour lecture before finally getting free.

He hurried to the hospital, where Cecilia had already woken up, weakly leaning against the bed, looking sadly out the window.

Kylie sat beside her impatiently, while Rosalind, moved by Cecilia’s state, dared not speak due to her mother’s authority.

Mason walked in briskly, without glancing at his mother and sister, and went straight to Cecilia, suddenly kneeling on one knee.

He took Cecilia’s hand, sliding a ring onto her finger, "Cece, let’s get married."

With just a short sentence, everyone’s expressions in the hospital room were shaken.

Cecilia stared at him blankly, "Brother Mason, are you serious?"

Mason nodded solemnly, "Yes, I want to marry you, Cece. Never have I realized so clearly and profoundly how much I love you!"

Cecilia’s eyes instantly welled up as she threw herself into his embrace, complaining, "Brother Mason, I’m really scared. Our child almost didn’t make it..."

Mason held her tightly, stroking her back gently, soothing her, "I swear, I will cherish you for the rest of my life. What happened today won’t happen again."

While the two were engrossed, a rigid voice suddenly interrupted, "Mason, come outside with me!"

Cecilia’s body shivered.

Mason quickly reassured her, "It’s okay, I’m here."

Then he followed Kylie outside.

Outside the hospital room, Kylie looked ugly-faced, "Are you crazy? Things with that Warner family boy aren’t clarified yet, and you want to marry her? Do you think our Jacobs family hasn’t lost enough face already?"

Mason frowned, "Mom, there’s a hidden truth behind that incident, Cece was set up. We’ve all misunderstood her."

Kylie sneered, "Set up? Says who? Her? That woman is cunning, don’t let her deceive you!"

"Cece was willing to die for me, her feelings for me are beyond doubt." Mason furrowed his brow at his mother, "Mom, I’m serious about marrying Cece, and I’ll start preparing for the wedding once she’s discharged."

Having said that, he ignored Kylie’s reaction and turned back to the hospital room.

Kylie was so angry she was fuming but couldn’t do anything about it, eventually storming off.

In the hospital room, Mason cared for Cecilia with utmost affection, as if everything had returned to the way things were before the photo scandal.

Cecilia finally felt a sense of relief.

Indeed, Brother Mason still loves her. Although obtaining the marriage this way is not honorable, she really wants to marry into the Jacobs family.
