Who Cares About Him When I'm Married to the Richest Man?-Chapter 77: I Remember Who Haylie Sommers Is
After the Warner family banquet ended, Elara, Esther, and Zara walked out together with Grandma Fitzwilliam.
Walter Warner personally escorted them out. Elara glanced around but didn’t see Zayne Warner, making her sigh a bit internally.
She originally came to resolve the misunderstanding with Senior Warner but didn’t expect that he had grown extremely disgusted with her. It seemed that their friendship from school days was over.
Saying it doesn’t leave regrets would be impossible, but... that’s just how it is.
Since he disdained associating with her, she had no need to insist on being his friend.
As they were walking out, a girl suddenly chased after them and called out shyly, "Zara!"
Upon hearing the voice, Zara stopped, and naturally, Elara and Esther stopped too. When Elara stopped, Grandma Fitzwilliam also paused, so Walter Warner halted and turned to look back.
Haylie didn’t expect her presence to be so significant that even the head of the Warner family and the distinguished lady stopped and waited for her. Feeling a bit embarrassed, she stepped forward and apologized to Walter Warner and Grandma Fitzwilliam, "Sorry, I have something to discuss with him."
After speaking, she stood there waiting for Zara to introduce her to Walter Warner and Grandma Fitzwilliam.
In her plan, by actively appearing, Zara would definitely introduce her to everyone, allowing her to naturally join them. Then, she might even have some interaction with that distinguished lady.
The elderly woman whom the Warner family respected so greatly must have an impressive background, enough to make Haylie look up to. Having connections with such a person would surely bring her benefits in the future.
Haylie was waiting for Zara to introduce her, expecting to smile and greet the elderly woman.
But unexpectedly, Zara frowned at her words and said to Elara, "Elara, you all go ahead, you don’t need to wait for me."
Then, he apologized to Grandma Fitzwilliam and Walter Warner, "Sorry, I’ll step away for a moment."
Grandma Fitzwilliam looked at Haylie with interest, while Walter Warner simply nodded.
Zara looked at Haylie and gestured to a corner, "Let’s talk over there."
Haylie felt extremely annoyed, resenting his lack of tact for not introducing her. All her plans had fallen through.
But due to the excuse she just made, Haylie could only nod and follow Zara to the corner.
Zara stopped ahead and turned to look at Haylie.
Haylie’s face didn’t have the gentle smile she usually wore when meeting him. She wasn’t happy now, with a hint of displeasure in her eyes.
Zara spoke first, "Miss Sommers, when we talked before about dating with marriage in mind, were you serious?"
Haylie was stunned. She certainly wasn’t serious; her target had always been Zayne Warner, and other men were just backups, especially Zara, who had a worse family background, appearance, and education compared to her.
Zara was beneath her in every aspect, so how could she be serious?
Though contempt filled her heart, Haylie’s face had an expression of surprise, "Mr. Dalton, why do you ask? Didn’t we agree? Do you think I’m a person who goes back on my word?"
Zara shook her head and looked at her for a long time before saying, "I proposed it because I truly want to marry, but I forgot to ask your true intention. You’ve been distancing yourself from me probably because of this, right?"
Ever since they confirmed their relationship and had a few meals together, Haylie suddenly stopped paying attention to him, not replying to messages or answering calls. Occasionally, she answered but hung up quickly with few words, not accepting any invitations.
He was looking for a suitable marriage partner, not someone to play games with.
Even though he wasn’t fond of women, Haylie’s tactics were common in men, and he saw through them.
A little probing revealed that Haylie had been pursuing the next heir of the Warner family, Zayne Warner.
With this information, Zara understood that Haylie was keeping him as a backup.
If it were any other situation, he might have accepted it, but when it involved marriage matters, he couldn’t afford to be delayed, especially with his own issues regarding sexual orientation.
So, he decided to clarify everything in one go today.
Haylie hadn’t expected Zara to be so direct. Her usual approach to men was to first captivate them with sweet talk, then occasionally cold-shoulder them, making them unable to resist her.
This tactic actually failed with Zara?
She glanced at him, planning to act aggrieved and explain, but Zara spoke again, "Since you’re unwilling to continue this relationship with me, let’s be clear today, Miss Sommers, let’s break up."
Haylie was taken aback.
Throughout her years of experience in romance, she had always been the one to break up with others, never the other way around.
Zara, the son of a nouveau riche, dared to disdain her?
Haylie felt a surge of anger and reluctance. Some things she could willingly let go, but to be passively abandoned? Impossible.
She looked at Zara incredulously and urgently asked, "Zara, what exactly happened? Why are you suddenly..."
Before she could finish, Zara smiled at her and walked away.
Walked away?
He dared to just walk away like that?
Watching Zara’s figure fading into the distance, Haylie finally accepted the reality: Zara, this crude person from a nouveau riche background, actually really disregarded her?
No wonder he mingled with people like Elara, equally ungrateful!
Haylie felt furious; this person was so unappreciative. When she found the opportunity, she would definitely give him a hard time!
Meanwhile, after clarifying things with Haylie, Zara caught up with Elara.
Elara needed to escort Grandma Fitzwilliam home first, so she arranged to meet Zara and Esther later in the evening. They then went their separate ways.
Elara accompanied Grandma Fitzwilliam back to the old house. As soon as they entered, she was nearly blinded by the sight of five or six exquisite diamond crowns of various styles in the small room.
There were also several boxes beside them, which appeared to be evening gowns. Elara looked at the box on top, and the logo seemed to be... from Chanel’s haute couture?
A sense of realization flashed in her heart; this must be from Grandma Fitzwilliam’s admirer.
Grandma Fitzwilliam turned and saw Elara’s stunned expression, realizing immediately. Oh dear, she had forgotten to put away the gown and accessories she had chosen for Elara yesterday!
This morning, when Zion came over and saw these items, he said they weren’t fitting for Elara. In a rush, she couldn’t find anything better and left them there.
Now, all of them were seen by Elara.
Grandma Fitzwilliam racked her brains, trying to come up with a good excuse to smooth over the situation. Although she personally disdained her grandson’s slow-burn approach to nurturing affection, if Elara knew about Zion’s carefully hidden secret, Zion would surely be upset.
When Zion gets upset, he loves running abroad, not returning for two or three years...
She didn’t have much time left, still hoping to quickly have great-grandchildren!
"Um..." Grandma Fitzwilliam began desperately.
Unable to think of a good excuse but needing to speak up.
In that moment, she felt so much sympathy for the executives in the company being squeezed by Zion.
Unexpectedly, Elara smiled, winked at her, and said, "Grandma, don’t worry, I understand. As long as the heart is young, it’s never too late for things to blossom and bear fruit. Who says older people can’t pursue true love? As long as it doesn’t violate public morals and customs, I support you!"
Grandma Fitzwilliam blinked, "Huh?"
What do you understand? Did you misunderstand something?
Elara thought Grandma Fitzwilliam was feeling shy and didn’t point it out, just smiled and said, "Actually, this is good too. The mistakes made when young should be properly compensated. We can’t agree too easily."
Grandma Fitzwilliam was now very sure that Elara had misunderstood.
She immediately followed Elara’s words, "Exactly, exactly. I don’t need these trinkets, Elara, you take them back and play with them!"
Elara was taken aback, "Huh?"
This is a diamond crown!
What does that mean, the largest diamond on the crown alone is over ten carats, not to mention those rare jewels used for decoration.
She doesn’t understand luxury goods, but at a glance, if this thing is real, it would cost at least hundreds of thousands!
Come to think of it, would a big shot chasing his true love give a fake one?
Elara dared not accept such a grand gift and quickly said, "Grandma, this is a gift for you. It’s not right for me to take it. If you don’t like it, just put it away or send it to the second-hand market, it can fetch a lot."
Her straightforwardness made Grandma Fitzwilliam burst into laughter momentarily.
Of course, it could fetch a lot of money. The renowned international jewelry master’s classic works from recent years are here, not to mention the crown’s worth, at least fifty or sixty million.
But Grandma Fitzwilliam didn’t care about money; for her, money was just a number, not nearly as important as her granddaughter-in-law.
So she stuffed the crown back into the box and said generously, "Play with it as you like. I have no use for these things. You’re not refusing because you dislike the things Grandma gives, right?"
Now Elara was truly speechless. Under Grandma Fitzwilliam’s warm insistence, she had to agree to accept the crown.
Just consider it temporarily keeping it for Grandma Fitzwilliam.
In case the old couple really reconciles someday, she’d return it to them.
As they were talking, Grandma Fitzwilliam’s phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID and a look of disdain flashed in her eyes as she answered, "Hello?"
On the other end, Zion Fitzwilliam asked in a deep voice, "Has the party ended?"
Grandma Fitzwilliam chuckled, "It’s over."
Zion paused and then asked, "Did anything happen?"
"What could happen?" Grandma Fitzwilliam deliberately asked back, "The food was quite good, and the Warners were very amiable."
Zion was rendered speechless, "Grandma, you know that’s not what I wanted to hear."
Grandma Fitzwilliam said "Oh?" and asked, "Then what do you want to know? I really don’t know. Why don’t you just say it?"
Zion was silent for a while, seemingly taking a deep breath, before asking, "How’s Elara?"
"Oh, you’re asking about Elara?" Grandma Fitzwilliam intentionally raised her voice, "If you care so much, why not ask her directly? She’s right here, I’ll give her the phone and you can ask yourself!"
As she spoke, she handed the phone to Elara, smiling meaningfully, "Elara, it’s Zion’s call; he wants to talk to you."
Elara felt a bit flustered by Grandma Fitzwilliam’s words, took the phone, and said, "Zion, what do you need me for?"
On the other end, Zion also took a while to adjust before speaking in a formal tone, "How did you feel attending the party with Grandma today?"
He had merely estimated that the party should be over by now, hence the call. He hadn’t expected Elara would be with Grandma Fitzwilliam, nor that Grandma would directly pass her the phone.
For that moment earlier, sweat had beaded in his palms from nervousness.
Elara, however, was composed, replying, "It was fine. The Warners, due to Grandma’s friends, took good care of us."
Zion replied, "That’s good."
Actually, the conversation could have ended there, but Zion was reluctant to hang up and after holding back for a while, blurted out, "Didn’t happen to run into Mason, did you?"
As soon as he spoke, he regretted it immensely.
Why on earth mention that unlucky fellow!
Elara paused for a moment and truthfully said, "I did. They upset Grandma and got kicked out by the Warners."
Zion couldn’t help but smirk, "Serves them right."
Elara chuckled, "Indeed."
Zion hesitated for a moment, "Shall we hang up then?"
"Okay." Elara took the phone, pressed the end button, and returned it to Grandma Fitzwilliam.
Grandma Fitzwilliam asked with a smile, "Does Zion care about you?"
Elara smiled bashfully, "Yes, he’s a very, very good person."
Even to someone who was half a stranger to him, he always helped tirelessly.
He even cared about her attending a party, which was truly touching.
She pondered that Zion, even if he were a ’1’, should be the kind of gentle and considerate ’1’.
After saying goodbye to Grandma Fitzwilliam, Elara took a taxi to find Zara and Esther.
Thinking about Zara, Elara’s expression darkened slightly. She had something very important to say to Zara today, hoping he wouldn’t be too troubled by it.
Soon, she arrived at the club where Zara and Esther were each holding a phone, lying on the sofa in a daze, with fruit platters by their heads. Playing with their phones, taking a bite of fruit—it was the epitome of indulgence.
Seeing this scene as she pushed the door open, Elara couldn’t help but feel amused and exasperated, "Can you two have some ambition, please?"
Esther struggled to sit up and rubbed her neck, "What’s the use of ambition? I just want to be an unambitious bum."
Zara also sat up, motioning Elara, "Elara, sit down, I have something to tell you both."
Elara hesitated for a moment, "Zara, I have something to tell you, too."
Zara was a bit surprised, asking, "What is it?"
Elara took a deep breath, mustered up her courage, and said, "I remembered who Haylie Sommers is. I kept finding her familiar before but couldn’t quite place who she was. But today, it came to me."
