Who Cares About Him When I'm Married to the Richest Man?-Chapter 28: Warning
Earlier, Zion Fitzwilliam took Elara Hale away for some peace and quiet, using the back door.
Zara Dalton had been waiting outside the Eye of Agelessness for a long time. Unable to reach Elara Hale, he daringly led a group inside to search but found nothing, realizing that something was amiss.
Therefore, when he couldn’t reach Elara Hale by phone, he quickly called Esther Carter, as he really didn’t know whom else to consult.
Coincidentally, Esther had just returned to Northgarde after finishing a shoot with her group earlier this afternoon. She had planned to gather her friends tomorrow, but unexpectedly received Zara’s call this evening.
Upon arrival, she learned about Elara’s incident, immediately taking Zara’s phone and incessantly dialing Elara’s number while contacting her dad’s side.
Although her dad only ran some small businesses, he had a sworn brother who was involved in the underworld. Not very prominent, but in times like these, she could only rely on this connection.
Unexpectedly, when she called her dad, instead of a proper response, she heard a woman’s seductive moans on the other end, causing Esther to hang up abruptly with a grim expression.
Still unable to reach Elara, her anxiety heightened. Gritting her teeth, she dialed again, shouting into the receiver, "Get up, you Chen!"
Her dad must have been too immersed in sweet moments, responding perfunctorily before hanging up again.
Anger surged within Esther, almost ready to commit murder.
Just then, Zara exclaimed in surprise, "The call’s through; Elara answered!"
Esther quickly straightened up to look over, "Hurry, ask her what’s going on!"
With the speaker on, every word Elara said was heard clearly by Esther.
After hanging up, Zara’s expression became grave, "Elara must be in trouble."
Esther’s expression was equally severe, "What a coincidence, that’s how I feel too."
Zara speculated anxiously, "Could she have been kidnapped? Did the kidnapper let her call us just to calm us down?"
Esther glanced at him with disdain, "How does your brain work? Obviously, Elara’s fine now, but her words implied she encountered some trouble earlier."
Zara was somewhat skeptical, "Are you saying it’s true, as she said, that Zion Fitzwilliam just happened to pass by and saved her?"
This is the Eye of Agelessness!
Elara and Esther might not know, but Zara was well aware that this place isn’t somewhere ordinary people can casually enter.
No matter how successful Zion Fitzwilliam is in sales, he wouldn’t have the qualification to enter such a venue.
The coincidences seem excessive, leading him to doubt Elara’s honesty.
Esther pondered for a moment, "Do you remember the agreement we made in college?"
Zara paused, "To say a code when in danger?"
Back then, the three were somewhat foolish, having read too many online kidnapping cases, constantly feeling life was fraught with danger. Hence, these youngsters agreed that if any of them got kidnapped and were forced to call home asking for money, they’d say a code phrase.
The code was...
"The king covers the tiger, mushrooms for two fifty!"
Zara and Esther recited it together, letting out awkward chuckles.
Esther remarked, "If Elara were truly kidnapped now, she’d surely use that code to alert us."
Zara remained uneasy, "What if she forgot?"
Esther rolled her eyes, "Do you think she’s as forgetful as you?"
After a pause, "Let me send her a message, telling her I’m back and asking her out tomorrow to see her response."
Zara’s eyes brightened, "Great idea, send it."
Their four eyes watched the message being sent, and soon Elara replied, "You’re finally back! How about tomorrow night? I’ve taken too many days off; requesting more might affect my attendance record."
Seeing the message, Zara and Esther both sighed in relief.
"Looks like there’s nothing wrong after all," Zara said, "We’ll ask for details tomorrow..."
Before finishing his sentence, his voice abruptly halted, staring dazedly out the car window, "Why are the police suddenly here?"
Esther was surprised too, "One, two, three, four, five... Five police cars? With guns? Wait, are those SWAT officers going in?"
From the police cars, dozens of SWAT officers swiftly disembarked with guns and rushed inside.
The two exchanged a glance, hearts sinking with a thud.
Shortly afterward, the sounds of men and women screaming emanated from inside, and soon, SWAT escorted several disheveled individuals out.
"Do you think this has anything to do with Elara?" Zara watched for a while before suddenly voicing his thought.
Esther hesitated, "Probably not? How could that Fitzwilliam guy wield such influence?"
Zara shook his head, a peculiar feeling clouding his mind. He couldn’t pinpoint it, but ever since Elara married that man, their encounters had grown increasingly strange.
An unwinnable lawsuit reached a miraculous turn, sending the opposing lawyer and Mason Jacobs in together.
This time, she evaded danger mysteriously, and shortly after, the police raided the Eye of Agelessness.
With the network of connections this place harbored, for it to happen now so coincidentally, he felt certain Zion Fitzwilliam was involved.
The police left quickly after apprehending suspects. Shortly after, Rosalind Jacobs emerged, appearing somewhat shaken, scanning her surroundings before hastily walking away.
Esther narrowed her eyes.
Zara had already recounted how Elara was coerced and incited, revealing every detail to Esther.
So seeing this wretched woman now, Esther felt like delivering a slap.
Never one to hold back, she jumped out, hoping to release her pent-up anger.
Rosalind was descending the steps when she suddenly noticed Esther, startled, she cursed, "What’s wrong with you, jumping out like that! You scared me!"
Esther smirked, eyeing her slantwise, "Why are you scared? Did the police miss catching you? Should I call them back to arrest you, the escaped fish?"
She was merely joking, yet saw Rosalind’s face indeed pale, and was intrigued, "Really, did I guess right? What did you do? Are you going to spend some time in a sewing jail?"
Panic flashed across Rosalind’s eyes before she glared insolently, "What nonsense are you spewing? I abide by the law, never engaging in illegal activities!"
Esther clucked her tongue, her gaze suddenly chilling, "Is forcing Elara to serve drinks today also a lawful good deed then?"
Rosalind paused, seemingly recalling something, panic flashed again, but she stiffened her neck, "I don’t know what you’re talking about! Get lost!"
