Who Cares About Him When I'm Married to the Richest Man?-Chapter 29: There Is No Such Reason in This World
As she spoke, she was about to push Esther Carter away.
Unexpectedly, Esther Carter didn’t move an inch.
She knew some martial arts. Facing Rosalind Jacobs, she wasn’t the least bit intimidated. She grabbed Rosalind Jacobs by the collar, her gaze menacing as she warned, "Jacobs, what goes around comes around. I advise you to be kinder. Elara is gentle and overthinks, that’s why you can threaten her. But I’m not someone you can mess with! Elara is under my protection. If you dare touch my friend again, do you believe I’ll run you over with my car?!"
Rosalind Jacobs’ face turned pale, and she tried hard to push her away, "I didn’t touch her!"
But she couldn’t move her!
Esther Carter laughed coldly, "Whether you did or didn’t, you know it in your heart, and I know it too. No need to pretend in front of me. Just answer, did you remember what I just said?"
Rosalind Jacobs gritted her teeth. As the princess of the Jacobs Family, when had she ever suffered such humiliation?
But she knew she had to leave this place immediately, she didn’t dare delay even a bit further, so she swallowed her anger and said, humiliated, "I got it, let me go!"
Esther Carter released her, and Rosalind Jacobs nearly stumbled. After steadying herself, she glanced at Esther Carter and quickly left.
Esther Carter patted nonexistent dust off her hands and returned to the car. Zara Dalton gave her a thumbs up, "When it comes to guts, hats off to you, sister."
Esther Carter sighed, "In the past, we’d hardly meet a couple of jerks in a lifetime. Now, with society so advanced, it sends these big jerks to make me angry every day."
Zara Dalton shrugged and handed her a phone to read the messages his mom just sent him.
"Son, you were asking about the Eye of Agelessness today, you’re not going there tonight, are you?"
"Something happened at the Eye of Agelessness tonight. If you went there, leave quickly, got it?"
"I heard they offended some big shot and got raided. They’re involved in gambling, drugs, and prostitution. Afraid this place won’t stay open in Northgarde anymore. Stay away from there, okay?"
After reading, Esther Carter looked up at Zara Dalton.
Their eyes met, and both were a bit startled.
After a while, it was Zara Dalton who spoke first, "It doesn’t necessarily have to do with Elara’s matter. Let’s ask her when we meet tomorrow."
Esther Carter nodded, pulled out a cigarette, intending to light it, but the lighter wouldn’t catch a few times.
Zara Dalton helped her light it up. Esther inhaled deeply before speaking softly, "I really hope it has nothing to do with Elara."
This venue involved so many influential and powerful people. If it really related to Elara, would those people let her go?
Elara Hale slept through the night and still felt as if last night was a dream when she woke up the next day.
She changed her clothes and went out to wash up, and as soon as she opened the door, she saw Zion Fitzwilliam pouring hot milk. Hearing the noise, he looked up and smiled, "Awake? I’ve heated milk, there’s some for you too."
Elara Hale had worried earlier that he might be upset about last night, but seeing his normal expression, she was relieved and cooperatively responded, "Alright, then I’ll have a big glass."
Zion Fitzwilliam’s smile deepened, his voice low, "Okay, it’s all yours."
While Elara Hale brushed her teeth, he also entered the bathroom, picked up a toothbrush, and started brushing.
The two stood side by side in the small bathroom, like a couple just waking up.
Elara Hale’s chest was ample, and the fitted outfit today didn’t help; toothpaste dripped onto her chest accidentally. She sighed, "This cursed figure never takes a break."
In the past, this had often happened. She had long tired of this ample chest.
Moreover, she didn’t consider Zion Fitzwilliam as of the opposite sex, so she blurted it out instinctively.
Zion Fitzwilliam paused in his brushing and subconsciously glanced in that direction, his eyes darkening slightly.
Indeed... quite cursed.
Feeling a surge of agitation he couldn’t ignore, he quietly took a deep breath and moved his gaze as if nothing had happened.
He left the bathroom after brushing his teeth.
Elara Hale watched his back with curiosity, unsure why she felt he was fleeing.
Could it be... insecurity?
She knew some gay men had gender identity disorders. Maybe Zion Fitzwilliam was one of them. Though male-bodied, he always considered himself female, which was why he felt insecure about her figure?
Elara Hale silently warned herself that ignorance was no excuse, and she’d better be careful not to rub salt into his wounds in the future.
After breakfast, they each left for work. During lunch break, Elara Hale received a call.
The voice on the other end was cold and disdainful, like issuing orders. It was Kylie Dalton, "We’re dropping the lawsuit. You testify for Mason, claiming the evidence was forged. As compensation, I’ll give you a substantial reward."
Elara Hale was silent for a moment.
Although Brandon White had said after the recess a few days ago that the Jacobs Family would soon drop the case and discuss compensation, she didn’t expect it to be so soon.
Kylie Dalton, not waiting for her response, became impatient and ordered sternly, "Elara Hale, don’t think I’m begging you! You’re bound to lose this case. We’re dropping it as an act of mercy! Besides, I’m not asking you to testify for free. Isn’t a million enough?"
Elara Hale felt like laughing. No wonder it was Northgarde’s top elite family—they even begged with such arrogance.
Did Kylie Dalton think she should be grateful and accept just because they were willing to extend a kind hand?
She spoke softly, "Ms. Dalton, if I testify that the evidence was forged, wouldn’t my lawyer be imprisoned?"
Kylie Dalton was taken aback, then responded displeased, "Why care about others? Mason’s in trouble now! You and Mason were married for two years. He went in because of you, and instead of finding ways to get him out, you’re worried about others?"
Elara Hale smiled weakly.
Indeed, she and Mason Jacobs were married for two full years. Before that, they had dated for a year.
They had so many warm memories, so much love and intimacy. She once thought all of it was real, only to realize it was all a lie after the divorce.
When Mason Jacobs forced her to step back repeatedly for Cecilia Quincy, did he think about their two years of relationship?
When every member of the Jacobs Family yelled at her, humiliated her, scorned her, did they consider her two years of marriage to Mason?
When they sued her, wanting her reputation destroyed, did they remember her two-year marriage with Mason?
No, they didn’t.
Then why should they expect her to care about those two years of marriage now, to betray her lawyer fighting for her redemption, overturn all the evidence, just to let Mason off safely?
No one valued her marriage with Mason, so why demand she take responsibility and make concessions for it?
Holding the phone, her voice was soft but every word was clear, "There’s no such logic in this world."
