When the Wind is Sweet: The Fairy Tale of Mr. and Mrs. Lancaster-Chapter 513: Such Mixed Feelings
Everyone was taken aback, stopped in their tracks, and turned their eyes upon hearing the sound, only to see an elderly man leaning on a cane, hunched over, trembling as he appeared at the door.
His murky eyes looked at the people outside the door, half surprised and half bewildered.
He had a head full of silver hair, his clothes were somewhat tattered, and the slippers on his feet were patched.
Faye Turner suddenly felt very happy, she turned her eyes to her mother-in-law; having someone there was good! Although age-wise, it was a bit off.
Eliza Hayes stepped forward, coming before the old man, and politely inquired, "Hello, sir, may I ask... is this Gale Peterson’s home?"
Gale Peterson... the name clearly made the elder pause for a moment.
His reaction was obviously slow, and it took him quite a while to nod.
The mother-in-law and daughter-in-law exchanged a glance, both were extremely happy! They saw hope!
"Can we... come inside and sit for a while?"
Eliza Hayes always maintained a smile, and politely said, "I’m an old friend of Gable, otherwise I wouldn’t know his address."
The old man looked at her, then at the people outside, thinking that his home had nothing worth deceiving about since it’s been barren for a long time, having visitors might add a touch of liveliness.
So, he opened the door without much guard and turned inside with the help of his cane.
Faye Turner followed Eliza Hayes into the rundown little house, while Drake and Tiger stayed outside with the driver.
Faye Turner was clever, she had already guessed that this old man might be Gale Peterson’s father since his face was full of wrinkles and he looked over 90 years old.
Just as she was about to inquire about Gale Peterson’s whereabouts, she saw it at a glance—an old black-and-white photo hanging on the wall.
In front of the photo, there were three incense sticks burning.
Faye was stunned; the person in the photo was identical to the one in the photo taken by Dustin Shepherd.
Her mind buzzed; were they a step late??
Eliza Hayes was also about to speak when her gaze inadvertently fell on the photograph, her smile froze, and her heart sank.
Seeing the two women guests staring at the photograph on the wall, the old man with the cane sighed heavily, "Gale’s been gone for over ten days, late-stage lung cancer." 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
"..." Both Eliza Hayes and Faye Turner felt an indescribable discomfort in their hearts.
Firstly, lament at the cruelty of time, and secondly, the trail was broken.
Faye Turner stepped forward two paces, with a complex feeling, she came before Gale Peterson’s portrait and bowed solemnly three times.
Eliza Hayes also stepped forward and bowed towards the portrait.
The old father of the Peterson Family wept endlessly, the house was very poor, seemingly spending quite a lot on Gale’s illness.
Faye Turner and Eliza Hayes sat in the departing car, everyone remained silent all the way, and the atmosphere was somewhat mournful.
Until they returned to the city, as the car was about to arrive at The Lockwood Old Manor, Faye Turner turned her gaze to the distraught middle-aged woman, "Mom, I want to see Dad’s attending doctor back then." This was another clue.
Eliza Hayes turned her gaze upon hearing, meeting her daughter-in-law’s eyes, and snapped back to reality.
"He also resigned," the girl said to her, "I think this matter is quite odd, an attending doctor, senior status, at an age with both elders and young ones, long been above others in the department, would not resign unless absolutely necessary."
Her meticulous thought deeply impressed Eliza Hayes.
Holding her daughter-in-law’s hand, she spoke earnestly, "Faye, I’ll go with you? No matter what happens in the future, mom will always be by your side."
Hearing this, Faye Turner felt very moved, "I haven’t found the attending doctor’s whereabouts yet, I only know a name, he’s called Wyatt Lane."
"Give me the relevant information," Eliza Hayes assuredly said, "I’ll have someone investigate, and notify you when there is news."
