When the Wind is Sweet: The Fairy Tale of Mr. and Mrs. Lancaster-Chapter 512: Can We Still Find Him?
Eliza Hayes reminisces about Caleb Lancaster, her inner thoughts and emotions beginning to flood...
As a woman herself, she has never had an outlet for her emotions.
Today in the car, holding the heavy dossier, Eliza Hayes couldn’t help but share her feelings with her daughter-in-law about Caleb.
She talked about what kind of person Adrian’s father was, from his personality to his way of dealing with matters... Faye Turner listened very attentively.
She felt that the father and son were indeed quite similar.
As the car arrived at the small town where Gale Peterson was located, it began to slow down. The town’s economic development was quite average, without any unified planning, and the streets appeared somewhat chaotic.
Following the navigation, the car finally entered a relatively narrow alley.
As they got closer to the destination, everyone’s mood grew tense, since this was the residential address left on the computer 20 years ago, and hope was faint.
Yet this person is critical to the case.
Whether they could find him, neither the mother-in-law nor the daughter-in-law was sure.
"Madam, ma’am, there’s no road ahead, we’ll have to walk," the driver observed the road and immediately reported.
"Find a spot to park then, it’s not far anyway," said Eliza Hayes.
"Understood."
Soon, the car pulled over and stopped.
Eliza Hayes and the others got out. "Faye, be careful." Including the driver, five people came in total.
Among them were Eliza Hayes’ reliable assistants, Drake and Tiger, both around thirty years old, professionally trained, agile, and always served The Lancaster Family.
After getting out of the car, Faye Turner used her phone to navigate, leading everyone forward.
The surrounding environment was somewhat run-down, the alley was not wide, with a bluestone-paved road. Most houses on both sides were shut and closed, moss growing on the walls, indicating they hadn’t been inhabited for a long time.
Occasionally, there were signs of life, clothes hung for drying out front.
The area seemed to be pending demolition and not within the town’s development plan, with most people having moved out.
In short, it looked like a dangerous building.
Faye Turner and Eliza Hayes walked deeper into the alley, followed by Drake and Tiger, without much communication, as everyone was quite anxious about coming here for nothing.
After all, this was a 20-year-old address, and very few people stay in the same place for 20 years.
If children were to marry, they would likely buy property in the city to help take care of the kids.
"Faye, are you sure it’s here?"
Wearing a hand-embroidered cheongsam, Eliza Hayes still radiated an aura of a noblewoman, walking forward while observing her surroundings, "This place resembles a slum."
Actually, Faye Turner wasn’t sure either, "We’re close, just 200 meters away, the address indicates it’s over here, I’m not entirely certain if we can find the person."
Because most people here had moved.
"Gale Peterson should be in his seventies by now, right?" Eliza Hayes could see the image of that figure becoming clearer in her mind.
"Exactly 70 this year," the daughter-in-law answered.
The mother-in-law prayed for his good health, clear mind, and that he was still alive.
The mother-in-law and daughter-in-law continued walking forward.
They finally stopped in front of a dilapidated, tightly shut door.
A three-story building from the 80s, the wall paint was peeling off, an old house with a strong sense of history.
Navigation indicated this was the destination.
Eliza Hayes glanced at her daughter-in-law, then at the closed and mottled door. She said to the man beside her, "Drake, go knock on the door."
"Yes." The man stepped forward and reached the door, gently knocking with politeness.
Everyone watched tensely, hoping for the door to open.
Judging from the dilapidated condition of this building, it was hard to guess if it was inhabited, with no visible signs of inhabitants.
Just that no grass was growing in the small yard in front.
After a while, Drake knocked again, and everyone continued to wait patiently, especially Faye Turner and Eliza Hayes, hoping their trip wasn’t in vain.
Right when Drake knocked for the third time and still no one answered, everyone felt there might be no one inside and was about to leave in disappointment when the door creaked open gently.
