When the Wind is Sweet: The Fairy Tale of Mr. and Mrs. Lancaster-Chapter 489: Giving for Each Other
Adrian Lancaster remained unmoved; he had no intention of playing along.
Eating was eating; all this trying to please made him uncomfortable, especially with grandpa watching.
But for Eliza Hayes, Adrian not rejecting the bowl of fish soup was already a great kindness. She smiled and quickly served another bowl to the old man.
She had spent so long making it, hoping her son would try it and not ignore it.
"Come, come, eat, eat!" The old man spoke up. "Eliza, you eat too, don’t just serve them." With that, he picked up his chopsticks.
Faye Turner had already tasted the fish soup, her eyes smiling, "Hmm, it’s really good! Mom’s cooking skills are amazing."
Her daughter-in-law’s reaction finally eased Eliza Hayes’s awkwardness: "Faye, if you like it, have more. There’s plenty in the kitchen."
"Mhm, mhm!" Faye nodded, "Thank you, Mom."
Adrian Lancaster focused on eating, puzzled how his wife had been won over.
Had something happened behind the scenes that he wasn’t aware of?
Near the end of dinner, Eliza Hayes kept glancing at her son, afraid he wouldn’t drink the soup.
Although Adrian did not look at her, he could sense her gaze from the corner of his eye and grasp her intentions.
Thus, after a brief inner struggle, he picked up the bowl.
Eliza Hayes finally felt relieved.
After dinner, they chatted for a while, and as the young couple prepared to leave,
Eliza Hayes instructed the maid to bring over a thermal box she had prepared earlier, square and filled with who knows what.
"Faye, these are dumplings Mom wrapped by hand this morning. There are all sorts of fillings. After you go back, just store them in the fridge; they were just taken out, and there’s ice inside to keep them cold."
Faye was slightly surprised, "Dumplings again?"
"Yes, since I know you like them." Eliza Hayes instructed the maid to help load them into the car.
"Thank you, Mom," she quickly said.
Adrian Lancaster kept his hands in his pockets, his expression still indifferent.
Eliza Hayes smiled, but when her gaze met his cold, detached look, she felt a bit startled, her eyes evasive.
Faye Turner held onto Adrian Lancaster’s arm, waved goodbye to the elders, and then got into the car.
Eliza Hayes stood in the courtyard, watching the car drive away.
Until the car left her sight, her smile gradually faded, replaced by endless disappointment...
Today, Adrian wasn’t happy; she even sensed a look of disdain.
One cannot hope for too much from people.
It’s good enough that he’s back.
The harm she caused him was deep; expecting him to forgive her overnight was unrealistic.
In the departing Lamborghini.
Faye Turner held onto Adrian Lancaster’s arm and gently rested her head on his shoulder, "Adrian, maybe there really is no mother who doesn’t love her child."
"She treated you like that before." Adrian Lancaster couldn’t comprehend and asked, "Why is your relationship suddenly so good?"
She turned her eyes to meet his gaze, "Because she admitted her mistakes and changed. Nobody’s perfect, and we should give her a chance."
"Because she’s your mother, I want to forgive her." 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
"Also because I won’t divorce. I married you and joined The Lancaster Family, which means coexistence with her for a long time. I’d rather have an extra friend, obviously not an extra enemy."
Her words made sense.
Faye said, "She is your mother, and this fact cannot be changed."
Adrian Lancaster withdrew his gaze to look out the window, remaining silent—indeed, it couldn’t be changed.
Faye leaned back onto his shoulder again, "Adrian, in this world, maternal love can manifest in many forms. Some express it straightforwardly, while another can be more subtle."
He understood her intentions.
Adrian Lancaster turned to look at her tenderly, reached out to gently tuck her hair behind her cheek.
He said, "Faye, don’t worry. I will definitely help you find your biological parents."
She was slightly taken aback and focused on looking at him.
The man’s lips curved warmly and attractively, "Just like you said, life is short, and we should try to live without regrets."
