Chapter 471: Chapter 471: Adrian Lancaster Refuses to Pay

"You must not let Grandpa win either!"

"Alright."

A chess game, after all, is best enjoyed when it’s evenly matched.

As Faye Turner sat down in the chair, she faintly caught the aroma of dumplings coming from the kitchen, as if they were mushroom-stuffed.

Before long, the first chess game between the grandfather and grandson was only halfway through when a servant came out with a large platter of steaming hot dumplings, holding three types of dipping sauces and several silver forks.

Adrian Lancaster turned his gaze, drawn by the scent, and watched as the servant brought the fragrant dumplings over.

"Hello, young master, hello, madam." The servant respectfully crouched, placing the large platter next to the chessboard, "These are freshly steamed dumplings, with mushroom and beef filling, please enjoy them while they’re hot."

After a long day at work, having only eaten around noon, Adrian Lancaster was already a bit hungry, and the smell of dumplings naturally made him hungrier.

"Okay." He dropped a chess piece as he picked up a silver fork, about to dip a dumpling in the sauce, when Eliza Hayes’ voice arrived before she did—

"Quick, try them, I just wrapped these dumplings."

Originally intending to offer the first dumpling to his wife’s lips, Adrian Lancaster’s face turned dark when he heard they were his mother’s handiwork, and he hurriedly put down the fork.

The action made it clear to everyone present what it meant.

Yes, he feared they were poisoned!

Eliza Hayes came over, her smile frozen in place, suddenly feeling extremely awkward.

The old man, face stern, glanced at his beloved grandson, looked at the plate of dumplings, and then at his daughter-in-law, he didn’t speak.

Even if there was nothing wrong with the dumplings, the things Eliza had done in the past had hurt the children’s hearts.

So he understood any reaction from the children.

The living room fell silent, quiet enough to hear a pin drop, and then almost everyone heard the sound of Adrian Lancaster’s stomach growling... 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

Though he loved dumplings, today, he had no appetite at all and viewed them as poison.

"Smells good." Faye Turner softly spoke, a slight smile lifting the corners of her lips, "Mom, thank you for your hard work."

Hearing her daughter-in-law’s words, Eliza Hayes snapped back to reality, her ignored heart deeply comforted.

"Mom, come sit over here." Faye Turner’s voice was gentle, smiling as she gestured invitingly.

Adrian Lancaster raised his eyes, looking at his wife in surprise.

With a forced smile on her face, Eliza Hayes, eager to bridge the gap with her son, stepped towards her daughter-in-law.

Faye Turner’s attitude toward her mother-in-law left Adrian Lancaster utterly astonished!

What’s gotten into my wife today??

Eliza Hayes sat down beside Faye Turner, making Adrian Lancaster so nervous he didn’t even dare blink, fearing she’d harm his wife or child.

Faye Turner picked up the fork, bringing a dumpling dipped in sauce to her lips, "Mom, you’ve worked hard, please taste the first one, and then we’ll eat."

She was sincere.

As the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law locked eyes, Eliza Hayes was stirred by the gesture, striving hard to hold back tears.

Eliza Hayes knew Faye Turner was doing this to help Adrian Lancaster let his guard down.

Grandpa had also put his chess piece aside, focusing his attention on them.

Adrian Lancaster could hardly believe his eyes!

With a smile, Eliza Hayes reached out, taking the fork from her daughter-in-law’s hand, "Okay."

Then she slowly opened her mouth, eating the dumpling in front of everyone.

After chewing carefully, she said, "It’s been a long time since I wrapped dumplings, they taste quite okay, why don’t you all try them while they’re hot?"

Faye Turner handed a silver fork to Grandpa, "Grandpa, for you." The old man looked at her, kindness pooling in his eyes, and he accepted it gratefully.

Only Adrian Lancaster was shocked, utterly bewildered.

Sitting by her daughter-in-law’s side, Eliza Hayes felt nothing but moved and constrained, as if she had truly become a different person, unsure of how to face Adrian.

The son she had ignored, disliked, and neglected for 20 years.

Caleb’s son.
