Chapter 142: Chapter 142: Absolutely True

"She’s quite pure and lovely-looking, but how did she manage to get Adrian to invite her to dance?! It’s absolutely infuriating!"

"I feel like she’s my biggest obstacle at Prestige Group! With her around, Adrian hardly looks at me! How am I supposed to become the future Mrs. Lancaster!"

Melanie Lancaster listened to her angry complaints and calmly asked, "What did you say her name was again?"

"Faye Turner! Faye as in Turner Group, Turner as in birch trees!"

"If you didn’t know better, you’d think it was ’fairy tale’! Even her name sounds so innocent!"

Serena Sutton was practically furious; none of tonight’s events were within her expectations.

Upon hearing the name, Melanie Lancaster went silent.

"Auntie, you have to support me! Find a reason to get rid of her!" Serena directly made her request.

"She’s Adrian Lancaster’s wife." Melanie’s tone was indifferent, "Legally married; I don’t have the power to get rid of her."

"What?!" Serena was beyond disbelief; her head was like a bomb that just went off, "That’s impossible!"

"It’s absolutely true." Melanie took a sip of coffee serenely, her expression somewhat cold, "Hard to accept, but that’s the fact."

Even if her aunt said it’s true, Serena naturally didn’t dare to doubt it.

She suppressed her disheartenment, "Adrian is actually married..." She instantly felt as if she had just lost love.

Only when the mist in her eyes faded did her emotions gradually calmed.

"So, Serena, you must seize the chance to dig into whatever hidden secrets there might be." That was Melanie’s true intention in finding her tonight.

Auntie’s words carried a lot of weight.

The clever Serena understood instantly; how could Faye possibly deserve Adrian?

So this marriage... must have a mystery!

Or... a contractual marriage!

There’s no real love between them!

Adrian, such an outstanding man, how could he possibly fancy Faye??

"Alright, don’t be upset, get yourself together and focus on what’s important." Melanie took a sip of coffee, her eyes slightly cold, "If you find anything, keep me informed."

"Okay, Auntie."

Melanie feigned nonchalance, "As long as you’re willing to cooperate, the position of Mrs. Lancaster is bound to be yours one day."

"Thank you, Auntie, I’ll do my best." She felt the clouds in her heart disperse, seeing a glimmer of hope again.

Serena was a spy Melanie placed within Prestige Group, a pawn at her command.

After Faye returned home and showered, Adrian Lancaster came back.

It was already close to eleven o’clock.

He glanced at her upon entering, then headed directly to the study, saying nothing.

In her pajamas, Faye suddenly felt the atmosphere was a bit gloomy.

Guessing he won’t be going to bed right away, she turned to prepare medicine for him.

About ten minutes later.

Faye appeared at the study door with a bowl of medicine; she gently knocked on the open door.

Adrian, who was busy working, glanced up at her, "Come in."

She walked towards him, sensing he was very busy, "Do you plan on showering?" Knowing he usually showers before going out.

"No."

"Then should I help you with the medication?"

"Sure." His voice was deep and magnetic, his right hand gripping the mouse, the computer screen displaying complex sets of data.

He seemed to be using his clever mind to analyze something.

Faye set down the medicine bowl and gently rolled up his sleeve; under the soft light, the wound on his arm was nearly healed.

The wrinkles had smoothed out, the scars were no longer hideous.

The girl felt a rush of delight and her face broke into a light and joyful smile, as she picked up the medicine bowl, bent over, and carefully applied homemade ointment.

He could vaguely smell a special scent from her, a light herbal fragrance, not pungent but subtly enchanting, becoming more engrossing.

Adrian instinctively paused his work, turning to look at her.

She was dressed neatly in her sleepwear set, her long hair half-pinned up; if not looked closely, she bore a grace reminiscent of Sienna.

But upon closer inspection, the two were actually not alike.

Delicate collarbones, and beneath those collarbones...
