Chapter 39: Chapter 39: Tingting 37

The crowd below the stage erupted in laughter. Nearly everyone knew about Yang Kun’s deep infatuation with Han Tingting, so they took his words as playful banter rather than anything malicious.

Han Tingting glanced at Yang Kun. ’Could she really say she was surprised by his behavior?’ Between the two of them, Yang Kun had always been the proactive, outgoing one.

Han Cunming smiled too. Instead of following the rehearsal script, he gently pushed Han Tingting to Yang Kun’s side. "Take good care of her. Live a good life together. From now on... just... just be happy."

Yang Kun was all smiles. "Don’t worry, Grandpa. We’ll always be happy together."

Watching Yang Kun lead Han Tingting step by step toward the center of the stage, the emcee grumbled to himself that this wasn’t how they had rehearsed it. But having hosted countless weddings over the years, he knew exactly how to salvage the situation.

Fortunately, Yang Kun didn’t pull any more stunts for the rest of the ceremony, allowing the emcee’s frantic heart to finally settle. It wasn’t until the end, when the bride and groom were to exchange their heartfelt words, that Han Tingting finally had a chance to speak.

Holding the microphone, her gaze first fell upon the head table.

"I’m so incredibly happy today, because the person I admire most has come to my wedding to witness my happiness at this important moment. She is my teacher. Without her guidance and care, I wouldn’t be the person I am today."

Although the time Teacher Shi had spent teaching Han Tingting was pitifully short, Han Tingting genuinely liked her, because the teacher-student bond between Teacher Shi and Tan You was truly moving.

"Thank you, Teacher Shi. You were always there for me, in my saddest, most difficult, and happiest moments."

From her seat below the stage, Teacher Shi smiled and gave Han Tingting a slight nod, her eyes turning red despite herself.

"Also, Mr. Qin. I’m so grateful to you. When I was a complete disaster in my science classes, you never gave up on me. You always encouraged me and pushed me to keep going."

Mr. Qin waved enthusiastically at Han Tingting, and the emcee promptly walked over to hand him the microphone. Mr. Qin laughed. "As long as you’re not mad that I dangled Teacher Shi as bait to get you to work harder back then."

Han Tingting laughed. "Of course not. I know you meant well. I cherish every bit of kindness people show me."

Mr. Qin laughed too. "That’s good to hear. Live your lives well. I teach math, so I’m not one for poetic speeches. I just hope you and Little Yang have a sweet and happy life together."

Han Tingting continued, "I had a distant relationship with my family growing up; it was just my grandfather and me, relying on each other. But I’ve met so many kind people who helped me along the way. When I first started working at the clothing factory, I never imagined I’d find this kind of destiny."

As she spoke, she glanced at Yang Kun. "You and your parents showed me what the warmth and affection between a parent and child look like. These were all things I once yearned for but could never have. But now, they’ve simply fallen into my lap."

"When I think about it, I’m moved from the bottom of my heart, like I own the entire world. To have someone who knows my struggles and shares my joys, who sees my success but cares more about the hard work it took to get there—that’s the family I’ve always wanted."

"With your parents setting such a wonderful example, I know you’ll work just as hard as they do to build our own little family."

Yang Kun had been gazing at Han Tingting the whole time, and at her last sentence, tears finally streamed down his face. Han Tingting reached up to wipe them away. "Don’t cry. This is a happy occasion. You should be smiling, not looking at me through a blur of tears."

Yang Kun sniffled. "I can’t help it. You know I have zero resistance when it comes to you. You’ve never said things like this to me before... I’m a little overwhelmed."

Standing below the stage, the groomsmen exchanged winks, clearly cringing at how sappy Yang Kun was being.

"The year I first met you, you were sixteen and I was twenty. I had just gotten home for summer break, and my dad dragged me over to be a model for you because you were preparing gifts for your teachers."

"Back then, you were so tan and skinny, and you barely said a word. You only opened up a little around Master Hu. You could chat with all the aunties at the factory, but you never seemed to see me at all."

Han Tingting smiled. "Feeling hurt?"

"A little," Yang Kun admitted frankly. "Back then, I just thought you were a cold little girl, like a stone. Later, my parents chewed me out. With me being so useless at the time, good at nothing and just relying on the family business, what right did I have to approach you?"

"After that, I was busy with my studies and helping my dad with the factory. We only met a handful of times right up until you took your college entrance exams."

"But after you took your exams, I realized you had changed so much. You could finally see me. The more we spent time together, the more I noticed your brilliant qualities. You were so much warmer toward me, no longer cold and distant. It was like you had finally let me into your world."

"When you first agreed to go out with me, I was so excited I couldn’t sleep for nights on end. I was terrified it was all just a dream that would vanish if I wasn’t careful. But you’ve always been so wonderful..."

Tan You sat in a corner of the stage, watching the two of them pour their hearts out. She glanced at the audience below; some were already teary-eyed with emotion. She let out a bored yawn. ’I thought Han Tingting was supposed to be some kind of rational, independent woman. And what do I get? A front-row seat to a live-action schmaltzy romance drama?’

’Oh, well. If Han Tingting is the female lead, I guess I can keep watching.’ Her gaze swept over Han Guangzhi and the middle-aged woman sitting across from him. Tan You scoffed. ’Who cares if you look miserable?’

In the past, Tan You had felt that Tan Lin and Cheng Wenhui were always scolding her, making her feel oppressed and miserable at home. But now, after seeing Han Tingting’s biological parents, she felt her own weren’t so terrible by comparison.

Of course, it wasn’t as if she felt any deep affection for them. After all, Tan You was a very cold person by nature. She never seemed to care much about anything, with no one and nothing she was particularly fond of.

She didn’t like to bother others, and she didn’t like others bothering her. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Her emotions rarely fluctuated wildly; it was as if nothing happening around her had any effect on her. ’Maybe being this detached is a good thing. At least when I have to go out on missions to earn Intelligence Value, I can slowly forget any deep, unforgettable bonds I might form.’

Sensing Tan You’s craving for Intelligence Value, the Beauty System trembled in fear. ’What do I do? If we go back, my lies will be exposed! The host won’t try to unbind from me, will she?’

After the wedding, Han Tingting’s life seemed to speed up as if wound like a clock. Tan You watched from the sidelines as she went through pregnancy and childbirth, then immediately dove back into her career after the baby was born.

As for Tan You, she returned to university to continue her studies under her professors, rarely appearing in Han Tingting’s life. The two of them went their separate ways, developing in parallel without disturbing one another, each striving to become a better version of herself.
