When the Side Character Gets a System and Travels through Difference Worlds-Chapter 38: Tingting 36
The private room suddenly fell silent. Director Yang started to tease, "Son, you’re a grown man. What’s with all this crying and sniffling?"
Though he said that, he also turned away to pinch the bridge of his nose. These past few years together hadn’t been easy for Han Tingting and Yang Kun. One was studying her heart out in school without letting her work fall behind, while the other was fighting to make his way in the world. Each faced their own hardships.
Cui He fell silent, her gaze on the two of them warm and her eyes shimmering with unshed tears. One was her own son, the other a young woman she cared for deeply; her heart ached for them both.
Han Tingting was more composed. She sniffled and was the first to smile. "Alright, no more crying. A happy moment like this is no time for tears."
Yang Kun cleared his throat. "Okay, Tingting. I’m so incredibly lucky to have met you, and I’m so honored to be your boyfriend... You said that even though you have biological parents, it’s not much different from having none at all."
"But that’s okay. My mom and dad are wonderful people. So, Han Tingting, would you be willing to share them with me? They’ll love you just as they love me. They’ll protect you and take care of you. You’ll never again have to be adrift with nowhere to call home. We will be your home."
"And I’ll also take care of Grandpa just like you do. I’ll honor him, respect him, and help him live out his golden years in peace."
The tears Han Tingting had just managed to stop started falling again. "I do. You’re really too much. I’m rarely ever this moved. I’ve cried more today than I have in the past several years combined."
As he lowered his head to put the ring on Han Tingting’s finger, Yang Kun blinked away his own tears. "I’m moved, too. And I’m grateful. Grateful that you’re giving me the chance to spend the rest of my life with you. I won’t let you down. Like my dad, I’ll work hard to protect our little family."
"I promise I’ll never make you cry again. For the rest of your life, all you’ll have to do is smile."
Han Tingting smiled. "Okay. I’ll look forward to it."
The moment she agreed, two large red envelopes were pressed into her hands. Cui He pushed Yang Kun aside. "Tingting, dear, Mom is just so happy. From now on, if that boy Yang Kun does anything wrong, you just tell me, and I’ll have his dad give him a thrashing!"
Director Yang nodded repeatedly. A grown man like him was standing to the side with red eyes and a red nose, clearly moved by the scene.
Han Tingting said, "Okay. If Yang Kun ever makes me unhappy in the future, I’ll come to Mom and Dad to back me up."
Cui He nodded again and again, overjoyed. "Yes! Our Tingting is such a gracious girl."
Han Cunming was both happy and a little sad. He was happy that Han Tingting had found her lifelong partner, but sad that once she was married, he would be living all by himself again. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Tan You sat quietly in a corner of the private room, noticed only by Han Tingting. She had arrived just as Yang Kun was about to propose. Seeing a proposal in person for the first time, Tan You did find it novel.
But she was someone who found it difficult to empathize. Even with Yang Kun, Han Tingting, and the others crying like that, Tan You didn’t feel any major emotional fluctuations and just continued to sit there with a calm expression.
Still, Tan You was genuinely happy that Han Tingting was finding her ideal life partner. Compared to herself, Han Tingting’s life had undoubtedly been much harder; she deserved a beautiful love story.
As for herself... Tan You shook her head. ’I’m just a junior high student. Still a baby, really.’
Now that Han Tingting had accepted Yang Kun’s engagement ring, a wedding was officially on the agenda. But preparing for a wedding took time, which was perfect, as it allowed Han Tingting to focus on getting ready for her fashion show.
Other fashion designers had held many shows, but Han Tingting, despite being a renowned designer, had never once held a runway exhibition of her own. With her planning one now, countless eyes were on her.
Of course, Han Tingting’s performance certainly lived up to the high expectations. Her debut show was a huge success, and for a while, the news was filled with nothing else. By then, however, Han Tingting was already busy with wedding preparations and other matters, and Yang Kun shielded her from the ensuing media storm.
"You look so beautiful today." Yang Kun hugged her from behind, his eyes fixed on Han Tingting’s reflection in the mirror.
Han Tingting smiled and nudged his chest with the back of her head. "Wasn’t I beautiful before?"
"No, you’ve always been beautiful." Yang Kun lowered his head and kissed her shoulder. "I’m really looking forward to the moment Grandpa gives you to me."
Han Tingting teased him, "You’re not going to get so emotional you start crying again, are you? I never knew you had so many tears."
"I’ll try my best not to cry," Yang Kun said, not feeling the least bit embarrassed. "But you can’t blame me if I really can’t hold it back. I’m just too happy. The moon I’ve been chasing for so long has finally fallen into my arms."
Han Tingting turned around in his arms. "Then don’t get the moon only to one day complain that it’s too cold and distant. I’ll never be able to express my love as freely as you do."
"I won’t. I’ll cherish it all the more because it wasn’t easy to obtain." Yang Kun rested his forehead against hers. "I know that the love you give me is all you have to give, and that’s more than enough."
Han Tingting sighed. "You always know how to move me even more."
Yang Kun looked down at her. "If I weren’t afraid of messing up your makeup, I’d kiss you right now."
Han Tingting looked up. "You definitely can’t do that."
Yang Kun slumped onto her shoulder. "I’ll just have to bear it a little longer... But there are still several hours to go."
Over his shoulder, Han Tingting’s eyes met the makeup artist’s. "Alright, you should go out for the rehearsal. The makeup artist is here."
In the hotel ballroom, Han Cunming was chatting animatedly with Mr. Qin, while Teacher Shi sat quietly to the side. Her husband poured her a cup of tea. "I never thought that little girl from back then would become so accomplished."
Teacher Shi smiled. "I’m so happy she’s doing so well now. Truly, happier than I’ve ever been. Her life has been so hard."
Teacher Shi’s husband’s gaze swept past a middle-aged couple at the next table. He didn’t say anything, just quietly drank his tea. Much like his wife’s quiet and reserved nature, he wasn’t an extrovert either, appearing gentle and scholarly.
When the emcee announced the bride’s entrance, Han Tingting walked step by step toward the central stage, arm in arm with Han Cunming. Cheers and applause erupted from both sides of the aisle, and Han Tingting’s gaze swept over the crowd.
There were people from her village, her former teachers, and her colleagues from work. Everyone was clapping enthusiastically, their faces beaming with congratulatory smiles.
Yang Kun stood on the stage up front, trying to remain composed. According to the rehearsal, he was supposed to wait for Han Cunming to walk Han Tingting up to him, but he just couldn’t wait any longer.
Just as Han Tingting and Han Cunming were halfway down the aisle, Yang Kun jogged all the way to meet them.
The emcee raised the microphone and managed to smooth things over: "It seems our groom just can’t wait! And who can blame him? The bride is absolutely stunning!"
