When Love Turns the Tables: The Mysterious Husband's Chase-Chapter 686: Are You Avoiding Me? (Part 6)
The store renovation is nearing its end. It will remain vacant for a while to let the odors dissipate. She has also hired the staff. Sheng Jiayu looked at the related information on the computer and some upcoming procedures. Before she knew it, two hours had passed.
Sheng Jiayu felt her stomach was a bit uncomfortable. She checked the time; it was more than an hour past the expected delivery time, yet her food hadn’t arrived.
Frowning, Sheng Jiayu was just about to call and ask when the doorbell rang.
The delivery guy stood at the door, wearing a raincoat, soaked, with an apologetic face: "Miss, I’m sorry, the rain outside is too heavy, the delivery was delayed, I’m really very sorry."
For a delay of more than an hour, Sheng Jiayu naturally felt frustrated, but it was pouring rain outside, and she couldn’t blame him.
Looking at the delivery guy’s apologetic face and the mud on him, perhaps he slipped on the rainy roads.
Sheng Jiayu didn’t mind, and she took out two hundred-yuan bills from her pocket: "No worries, thank you for your efforts, keep the change. Goodbye."
She said this and then closed the door by herself.
The plastic bag was still dripping water, all the way from the entrance to the dining table.
Sheng Jiayu opened it, and saw that the spicy chicken and garlic lettuce she ordered were both tilted, the sauce and oil had spilled over inside the bag, diminishing her appetite.
Sheng Jiayu reluctantly ate a bit, not sure if it was a psychological effect or if the flavors had mixed; it just didn’t taste right.
She suddenly missed Mu Ke’s congee and his homemade dishes.
Sheng Jiayu shook her head suddenly. What was she thinking?
She managed to eat a bit more, at least to fill her stomach, then threw the trash into the bin and turned back to continue with her work.
The heavy rain didn’t let up until the afternoon. The noon news reported that due to the rain, many areas in B City had been flooded. In the worst place, car wheels were already submerged.
Having eaten little at noon, Sheng Jiayu felt extremely hungry by just after six. Though the rain had lightened, she thought about the road conditions seen on the news and her lunch delivery situation, and she put down her phone.
She went into the kitchen intending to make something to eat. She was a disaster in the kitchen, knowing she couldn’t make anything fancy, so she only planned to cook some simple congee.
Sheng Jiayu opened the fridge, recalling what Mu Ke put in his congee, and took out some greens and bacon since there was no fresh meat to use instead.
She chopped the ingredients into uneven pieces, with no aesthetic appeal, but Sheng Jiayu didn’t care, as long as it was edible.
Rinsing the rice to cook, she just plugged in the cooker, when she heard a "snap," a spark came from the power strip, and then the rice cooker light went out. Sheng Jiayu was stunned, was it... a short circuit?
No way, she just wanted to cook congee, even though she’s a kitchen disaster, she couldn’t have shorted the circuit just cooking congee, right?
Sheng Jiayu unplugged the appliance, took her phone, went out, and opened the electrical box. Nothing seemed wrong.
While she was puzzled, a fifty-something-year-old woman from next door came out: "Girl, did your power go out too?"
Sheng Jiayu nodded, and heard the woman also say: "My power’s out too, what’s happening here?"
It wasn’t just them; two other households on the other side opened their doors. Only then did Sheng Jiayu understand that it wasn’t just her unit that lost power; the whole building had a blackout.
