Chapter 65: Chapter 65: It Has Selective Dysfunction

When the call from Joy Coleman came, Luna Axton had just finished lunch and was strolling in the courtyard to aid her digestion, reviewing the morning’s work.

"Lindsey, what’s wrong?"

"Luna, you’re on your lunch break, right? Is it a good time to talk?"

Lindsey rarely called on a weekday. The two of them mostly texted on WeChat, replying whenever they saw the message.

A phone call must mean something important. "Yeah, go ahead."

"I just ran into a total freak, I’m so pissed..."

Joy Coleman recounted the whole incident, but she left out the part about the man’s grating voice, only saying that the person involved was being difficult.

Luna Axton commiserated, "Remember to grab an Americano after lunch. It’ll get your digestive system moving a little faster."

"Okay. I’m heading back to work after I eat. How’s your internship going?"

"It’s going well. I learn something new every day." Luna said, looking down. Her gaze fell on a splash of green bursting from a crack between the stones.

’Life is so resilient.’

She wanted to bend down to see what it was, but her belly got in the way, so she gave up on the idea.

As her eyes scanned the area, she caught sight of a figure, and her brow furrowed slightly.

Eliana Yates was standing not far away, holding up her phone. Luna couldn’t tell if she was filming her or herself.

Lindsey’s voice came through the phone, "Okay, I’m hanging up then. Let’s get together when you’re free."

"Okay." Luna Axton put her phone away, went down a different set of stairs, and left Concordia Medical Hall.

She had keenly noticed that every time Eliana Yates appeared, she was holding up a phone.

Every time Eliana initiated a conversation with her, she felt uncomfortable.

The disdain in Eliana’s words, her probing questions, and even the smile in her eyes all made Luna sense she had ill intentions.

’I hope I’m just overthinking things.’

Caleb wasn’t with her, so she took a quick walk around Concordia Medical Hall by herself before returning to the consultation room to organize her notes.

In the break room, Eliana Yates was reviewing today’s footage.

She had previously filmed so many study-with-me videos, crafting a persona of a beautiful, rich, intelligent, and highly educated vlogger. Everyone had been so inspired, saying they wanted to learn from her.

But over time, netizens didn’t appreciate it. Her video conversion rate was extremely low, and she hit a creative plateau.

Ever since she first posted a video about Luna Axton online, her follower count had skyrocketed by over 500,000.

Businesses started approaching her to promote foot soak packets and traditional medicine secret-formula face masks. In just a few days, she had already landed three ad deals, earning 600,000.

’This is the kind of power I, Eliana Yates, should have.’

Every day, she looked forward to working with Luna Axton, talking and chatting with her, trying to get more footage.

In just one morning, her DMs had exploded, but she didn’t have the patience to open and read them.

But one profile picture successfully caught her attention.

"Young Master Jacobs is following me!" Eliana Yates gasped. "And he sent me so many messages!"

She couldn’t suppress a wide grin.

’Young Master Jacobs! The son of Deputy Director Jacobs!’

’His father is in politics, with a limitless future.’

’His mother is a young lady from the Fairchild Family, with more money than could be spent in several lifetimes.’

’Young Master Jacobs also has a very noteworthy cousin, the multi-billionaire Blaze Fairchild.’

’He’s the most prized bachelor in all of Valoria, and the man most sought after by the daughters of prominent families.’

’As the young master of the Jacobs family, raised with power and wealth, no one can control him as long as he doesn’t kill someone.’

’Don’t be fooled by his age; everyone in Valoria’s elite circles wants to get connected with him.’

And now, Young Master Jacobs himself was personally inviting her to his birthday party.

’Dad’s been stuck in his current position for ten years, unable to get promoted.’

’If I can connect with Young Master Jacobs, I can help Dad.’

’Then, Dad will think more highly of me. So what if that bastard child from outside is outstanding? She can’t help him one bit with his political career.’

’And if Young Master Jacobs takes a liking to me, I might even become the young mistress of the Jacobs Family someday.’

’By then, Dad will have to rely on me completely.’

’With just a word from me, that bastard child will be less than nothing.’

Eliana fantasized, the excitement in her heart spreading like ripples on a lake, bringing a blush to her cheeks.

Her fingers trembled as she typed, deleted, and re-edited her message in the chat box.

[Young Master Jacobs, I’m so sorry, I just saw your message. I’m honored to receive your invitation. I’ll be there on time.]

A second later, Young Master Jacobs’s reply popped up: [Make sure you dress up, okay~]

Seeing the tilde at the end, Eliana felt a thrill run through her. She squirmed and cooed about how cute it was.

"Oh my god, I didn’t know Young Master Jacobs was so cute. His reply even has a little tail."

Eliana Yates didn’t bother Luna Axton again for the rest of the afternoon. Immersed in her work, Luna felt the time fly by.

After the last patient’s consultation was over, she cleaned up the room and clocked out for the day.

The temperature had dropped even lower today. Luna Axton instinctively rubbed her hands together and blew on them for warmth.

The sky had already darkened, and the lampposts in the courtyard lit up the twilight.

The car sent to pick her up was parked there, the driver waiting by the door.

Blaze Fairchild, however, was sitting inside the car where it was warm.

She got in and sat down. Blaze Fairchild’s hand immediately reached over, enveloping her icy fingers in his palm.

Luna Axton instinctively tried to pull back, but Blaze Fairchild only held on tighter.

"It’s getting cold. Let me warm them up, or you’ll get chilblains." His domineering tone left no room for refusal.

Her hands really were freezing, so letting Blaze Fairchild warm them up was actually quite nice.

The sleek car sped along the road. Outside, the crisscrossing lights and shadows flickered through the windows, making the car’s interior alternate between light and dark.

Perhaps it was because his hand was too warm.

It caused her own face to flush, the heat spreading from her cheeks to the tips of her ears.

"Are you hot?"

Blaze Fairchild suddenly leaned over the center console, moving close to her ear and asking in a voice only the two of them could hear.

WHOOSH—

Luna Axton felt her face grow even hotter.

In her flustered state, she accidentally hit the window switch, and she also pressed the button that turned on the starlight headliner in the back.

The glass window slowly lowered. She nodded numbly, "Y-Yes... It is a little hot."

The corners of Blaze Fairchild’s lips tilted up, his eyes crinkling with amusement.

"Then let’s get a little air."

She kept her head down, not needing to look to know how red her face was. She just nodded mechanically, "Okay."

’We’ve been keeping our distance these past few days, so why is he suddenly being so caring again?’

With her head lowered, she didn’t notice Blaze Fairchild’s gaze lingering on her.

Her short, glossy black hair rested against her fair skin, creating a stark contrast that was both innocent and alluring.

Especially that stretch of fair, smooth neck, so slender it looked as if it could be snapped with one hand.

The line of her spine extended down, disappearing into her white wool coat, sparking the imagination.

The image of a slender back suddenly flashed through his mind.

Blaze Fairchild quickly averted his gaze, turning to look out the window as if nothing had happened.

’Sure enough, once things between a man and a woman start, they’re hard to stop.’

’Just the sight of her neck is enough to easily test my self-control.’

Of course, Luna Axton was oblivious to these thoughts of his.

It was only later that night, when they were sleeping together and his unusually hot body pressed against hers, that she sensed his desire.

Blaze Fairchild’s warm feet wrapped around her still-icy ones. She couldn’t help but stiffen, her nerves stretched taut like violin strings.

’Blaze Fairchild still has residual poison in his body, but I’m pregnant. I can’t help him too many times.’

Suddenly, the fabric over her abdomen shifted. Blaze Fairchild’s large hand came to rest on it, and his deep, husky voice followed.

"The bedtime story is over. Let’s sleep."

Luna Axton was confused. ’He’s... not going to do it?’

"Don’t mind it. It’s a natural reaction. Sleep."

Luna Axton thought of the scantily clad woman in the bar’s restroom, and the woman’s slender, graspable waist.

"Your condition is unique. If you have needs, you should still go outside..."

"I don’t have needs," Blaze Fairchild cut her off coldly.

"I don’t mind."

"I mind. When I’m with anyone else, it opts for selective erectile dysfunction."

"Oh." She’d never heard of such a condition, but she couldn’t rule out some metaphysical phenomenon that medicine couldn’t explain.

"I don’t have anyone on the side. I still have that much self-control. Don’t you ever suggest that again, understand?"

"Okay."

When Luna Axton heard that he didn’t have anyone on the side, her heart couldn’t help but leap with joy.

"In a couple of days, there’s a victory banquet. Do you want to go?"
