Chapter 64: Chapter 64: Ordinary and Confident

Late at night, Valoria was still ablaze with lights.

In the quiet of her rented apartment, a single desk lamp glowed by the window.

The CLICK-CLACK-CLICK-CLACK of her keyboard was a constant rhythm as words appeared on the screen.

Ever since she’d been put in sole charge of a project, Joy Coleman had poured all her energy into her work.

She had already mastered the documents, but the client was calling, pressing her for a quick turnaround.

She had to draft the contract overnight and hand it to her boss for review first thing in the morning.

Once the contract was approved, she would head out directly from the office.

While hailing a cab, Joy Coleman glanced at the address on her phone and found it a bit familiar.

"28 West Riverbend Street."

’Isn’t that the exact address of the bar, Nightscape?’

’I’m not mistaken, am I?’

Before she could dwell on it, the cab she’d hailed pulled up in front of her.

On the way there, she checked the contract again.

She went over everything, from the formatting to the wording, and only relaxed once she confirmed there were no mistakes.

She wiped her sweaty palms on her pants, let out a long breath, and tried to calm her racing heart.

After all, this was her first time handling a meeting alone. She couldn’t help but be nervous.

Nightscape was just as she remembered it: sad love songs playing, people chatting and drinking—artsy and relaxed.

She scanned the room, looking for a face that lived up to the title "Young Master Kingston."

"Hey, little miss!" a flirtatious voice called out.

Joy Coleman was busy looking for someone, so she glanced toward the voice without much thought.

The man was grinning with a roguish charm, his devil-may-care eyes fixed on her.

’That damn gigolo!’

Joy Coleman shot him a glare, ignored him, and turned to make a call by the entrance.

"Young Master Kingston, I’ve arrived. Where are you?"

"Little miss, turn around."

Joy Coleman lowered her phone. The caller ID read: Young Master Kingston.

’No way!’

She turned around slowly. The damn gigolo was actually waving at her, holding up his phone to show he was the one on the line.

Joy Coleman froze on the spot, a storm of complicated feelings brewing inside her.

The man who held her career in his hands was actually a gigolo.

’Whether I can stay on this Evergrow Group project depends on the CEO’s kept man.’

Joy Coleman pressed a hand to her chest. It felt like she’d swallowed a fly; she was utterly disgusted.

’But work is important, and my apartment is even more important.’

Joy Coleman clenched her fists. ’Money’s hard to earn, and life sucks, but for a better future, I’ll endure it!’

A teasing voice came from her phone. "Little miss, come on up."

Joy Coleman pressed her lips together, fighting the urge to vomit. Her heavy footsteps THUMPED on the stairs, growing louder as she neared the second floor.

’So this is the CEO’s real punishment!’

’This long-term psychological distress is far more painful and torturous than just firing me outright.’

"Hey, little miss. Long time no see."

"Young Master Kingston, we just saw each other a few days ago."

"Did we?" Wyatt Kingston raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "A day apart feels like three autumns. I’ve missed you dearly."

’So greasy!’

Joy Coleman reached out and slapped away the hand that was about to land on her, a fake smile playing on her lips. "There was a mosquito."

Wyatt Kingston played along smoothly. "Oh? Then I’ll have someone come spray some DDT right away!"

Joy Coleman scoffed internally. ’What an idiot.’

She forced a smile, her eyes narrowing to slits to hide her true feelings. "Young Master Kingston, shall we discuss business?"

Wyatt Kingston gave her a bewitching smile. "Of course. Follow me."

It was the same private room. Joy Coleman felt like she was sitting on pins and needles, so she simply stood off to the side.

"Cocktail or a light beer?"

"Young Master Kingston, I don’t drink during work hours."

"Oh." Wyatt Kingston poured himself a glass of red wine. "You can start. I’m listening."

Joy Coleman watched him lounge languidly on the sofa, pinky finger extended, as he brought the glass to his lips and took a delicate sip of red wine. The gesture was utterly seductive.

Especially the way his Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed, his red clothes contrasting with his pale skin. The light, fleeting glance he threw her was nothing short of devilish.

Joy Coleman shivered, and a dense forest of goosebumps erupted all over her skin.

She quickly averted her gaze, focusing her attention on the documents and beginning her presentation.

She worked earnestly while the man just lounged on the sofa, drinking without a sound.

The whole process went on for nearly ten minutes.

"You, come closer. Your voice is too quiet, I can’t hear you."

Joy Coleman looked up and saw that the bottle of red wine was already empty, with only a little left in his glass.

Looking at the man again, his eyes were hazy and the corners were tinged with red. He was clearly buzzed.

’Go over there?’

’I’m not an idiot. Any normal person could predict what would happen if I went over there.’

A man and a woman, alone, and the man has been drinking.

’How could a weak woman like me, who can’t even truss a chicken, be a match for him!’

Joy Coleman said, "Young Master Kingston, I’ll just stand here. I can speak louder."

"Then I’ll come over."

"Don’t!" Joy Coleman took a step back, hastily refusing. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

"Hahahaha!" Wyatt Kingston threw his head back and laughed. "You’re really something special. You’re actually not throwing yourself at me."

Joy Coleman couldn’t take it anymore and gave him a spectacular eye-roll.

"Could you not be so basic and overconfident?"

It’s not like she’d never seen a decent-looking guy before. Back in college, at sports meets, she’d seen all kinds of handsome university students and tanned athletes.

This man in front of her, aside from his pale skin, was practically worthless.

What’s more, he was just someone who got in through the back door. She, Joy Coleman, couldn’t accept that.

’Mom always taught me to be hygienic. I have to be a good girl and listen to my mom.’

"Basic and overconfident?" Wyatt Kingston feigned ignorance. "Does that mean normally confident?"

’He’s as stubborn as a mule and can’t take a hint.’

Joy Coleman cursed him out internally but still had to plaster a smile on her face.

"That’s right. Young Master Kingston, you could be even more confident."

"Oh, so you were praising me." Wyatt Kingston acted bashful, tapping his long fingers lightly. "Then you can just stand there. Continue."

Two hours later, Joy Coleman finally walked out of Nightscape.

A job that should have taken an hour was dragged out by the man, who kept asking her to try dishes or telling her to sit down. He really was a gigolo full of tricks.

Joy Coleman stood at the entrance, shot a fierce glare back toward the second floor, and stomped away angrily in her high heels.

Wyatt Kingston watched her clearly on the room’s security monitor, his lips curled in an endlessly amused smirk.

She was just too interesting. In his twenty-plus years of life, he’d never met anyone in all of Valoria this amusing.

Joy Coleman... she wasn’t Luna, not the woman Ian liked.

Wyatt Kingston double-checked the documents, then called someone to come get them and take care of it.

The New Year holiday was approaching. He had to make a big move before then.

This Spring Festival, he was going to sit at the main family table.

He had to hold his head high in front of Old Man Kingston, and he wanted to have enough new year’s money to just throw it around.

Joy Coleman found a hole-in-the-wall restaurant for lunch. To suppress the nausea in her stomach, she needed to eat something spicy to neutralize it.

’And Luna... to think I’m providing legal services for her rival in love.’

’I’ve lost my conscience. I’ll never be able to face my best friend again.’

Mulling this over, Joy Coleman bit into a piece of pork intestine, making it burst.

"Ah—hot!"

The juices inside the intestine scalded her, making her cry out in pain.

"Even a piece of intestine is bullying me! Don’t you know I paid extra for you?!"

"I’m so mad!"

"I should just call Luna and confess. This is too sinful!"
