Chapter 63: Chapter 63: The Key to Traffic

Luna Axton was forced to meet Blaze Fairchild’s gaze. When she heard him say he had a condition, her eyes flickered with a look that said, ’I knew it.’

Blaze raised an eyebrow, not at all annoyed. "Agree, and I’ll drive you personally."

"Tell me." ’Could she refuse?’

’Their relationship was a transaction to begin with.’

’Since the outcome would be the same regardless, why waste time and energy arguing?’

"You have to answer my calls and messages immediately."

’What kind of condition is that?’

"Today was an exception. I left my phone in my bag," Luna explained.

"No next time."

"I know."

Luna looked at his face, with its excellent bone structure.

’If Blaze drives me, Caleb won’t have to make two trips.’

’When had she ever *not* replied to his messages and calls promptly? As long as she saw them, she always answered right away.’

’What game is Blaze playing?’

She had bright, luminous eyes that looked so innocent and pitiable, it made Blaze’s heart itch with an unbearable urge.

’I really want to kiss her!’

What little reason he had left prevailed, and he released her hand just in time. He had to avoid kissing her in the car and making her angry again.

「Inside Pinehurst Estate.」

Jenna Axton had just finished a game of chess with Julian Fairchild, and the two of them moved over to the sofa.

"Well now, the daughter raised by old Frost ends up keeping me company. I suppose I’m reaping the benefits of that old fellow’s good fortune," Julian Fairchild remarked with a sigh.

"You and he are as close as brothers, so I’m practically a daughter to you. And with Luna married to Blaze, it’s only right that I keep you company."

Julian Fairchild then asked, "You said Luna is going to study at Concordia Medical Hall. Do you think her older brother and father will be suspicious?"

"They won’t. They’re obsessed with medicine and rather oblivious to anything else."

’That was why she had dared to let Luna take an internship at Concordia Medical Hall.’

Just as they were speaking, they saw Luna Axton walk in, her hands tucked into her coat pockets.

It was cold outside, so her chin was tucked into her wool scarf. Blaze followed closely behind her.

Seeing this, Julian Fairchild chuckled. "Look at him, he knows to walk behind her now. The first time he brought Luna home, he was striding so far ahead they were a mile apart."

’He’d taken note of all the changes in his grandson.’

’He was showing more warmth, learning to care for someone, and his expressions were more varied. Now *this* was what a living person should be like.’

The moment Luna walked in, Jenna pulled her down to sit beside her.

"How was it?"

’She hadn’t seen anyone from the Frost family in over twenty years; of course she missed them, at least a little.’

"It was great. Academician Frost is very friendly and in good health—his hearing is sharp and his mind is clear. Ms. Ford is gentle and graceful. I didn’t really interact with Dean Frost, so I can’t say."

After she finished, Luna carefully observed her mother’s expression.

The relief in her mother’s eyes was obvious, but it vanished in a flash.

"I mean, how did *you* feel about it?"

Luna deliberately avoided looking at Blaze’s face. "I’m very happy. I’ll be able to gain a lot of experience."

Jenna Axton relaxed and patted her hand. "Good. As long as you’re happy."

Julian Fairchild was pleased to hear she liked it.

’It’s good that Luna is willing to go out and meet people. It’s much better than her being cooped up in the Fairchild Estate for the entire break.’

He took out a gift he had prepared earlier and pushed it in front of Luna.

"Yesterday, Blaze mentioned you were going to intern at Concordia Medical Hall, so I prepared some tea. I was hoping you’d take it with you this morning, but you didn’t come down for breakfast. Remember to bring it to your Grandpa Frost tomorrow, all right? Grandpa Frost is an old brother to me."

"Of course, Grandpa. I’ll make sure to deliver it to Academician Frost tomorrow," Luna Axton promised obediently, giving him a bright, carefree smile.

Blaze watched her, his face devoid of expression. ’She’s all smiles for everyone else, so why does she always look like she’s about to cry when it comes to me?’

"And this. Grandpa had someone buy some gold bars—300 grams in total. You can have them made into jewelry. Wearing gold is good for your health. Mrs. Creed will find a goldsmith for you."

Luna readily agreed. "I’ll ask Mrs. Creed to arrange it this weekend when I have some free time."

’Grandpa would much rather see her wearing the gold jewelry than just hear her say thank you.’

’He wanted what was best for her, so accepting his gifts and going along with his wishes was the best form of gratitude she could offer.’

The more Julian Fairchild looked at Luna, the more he liked her. ’It’s so much better to be poised and gracious.’

’If the two of them just had more time to adjust to each other, they could surely become a loving, steadfast couple who support and understand one another.’

’As long as a husband and wife love each other, there’s no obstacle they can’t overcome.’

After dinner, Blaze was busy in his study, so she finally had a moment to return Joy Coleman’s call.

"Joy, what’s up?"

Joy Coleman was still looking over some documents. She gave a push with her foot, sending her office chair gliding away as she stood up.

"I was just worried about you! I wanted to see how you were doing."

Luna stood at her bedroom door. Seeing that the light in the study was on and hearing the steady, rhythmic sound of typing, she felt relieved and went downstairs to the living room to take the call.

"I’m fine. I was at Concordia Medical Hall for my internship today, so I didn’t have time to get back to you."

"About yesterday..." Joy Coleman bit her lip and paused for a few seconds. "It was a misunderstanding. Your husband was talking business with someone, not messing around at the bar."

Upon hearing this, Luna’s eyes grew clear and bright. ’So he really was just talking business.’

"Yeah, he told me that yesterday."

"Are you really okay, Luna?" Joy sounded doubtful.

’Luna’s reaction was far too calm. It was not what she had expected.’

"Joy, this was a shotgun wedding. We have a contract. Things like this aren’t covered in it, so naturally... I don’t need to worry about it."

A pair of black leather house slippers appeared by the second-floor railing. Blaze, who had just heard her words, froze.

’He had thought that explaining things would bring her one step closer, but instead, it had just pushed her right back to where they started.’

’She was far more timid than he’d realized.’

As night fell, Luna lay on her side in bed.

’Joy had said she was independently in charge of a project, assigned directly by Blaze.’

’She knew better than to believe Joy and think Blaze had given her that opportunity because of her connection to Luna.’

’Blaze was so rational, a man whose word was law. Why would he do something like that just for her sake?’

’It had to be because of Joy’s professional competence, combined with her personality.’

"The doctor said you shouldn’t always sleep in the same position," Blaze’s voice, calm as ever, came from behind her.

"Okay, I’ll move." She pushed herself up, sitting on the edge of the bed. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

Before she could even get out of bed to adjust her pregnancy pillow, Blaze did it for her.

She had no choice but to lie back down, now forced to face Blaze.

Blaze stared at her intently, as if he could bore through her flesh and see into her very mind.

Luna feigned exhaustion and simply closed her eyes, pretending to sleep.

A small smile played on Blaze’s lips as his gaze traced the contours of her face.

Her smooth forehead, her trembling eyelashes, the slight unsteadiness of her breath.

Finally, his gaze landed on her cherry-pink lips...

The soft touch, her unique, sweet scent, her captivating little moans.

Everything about her was an invitation, tempting him to draw closer.

Blaze leaned in and placed a kiss on her lips. The eyelashes before him fluttered, but her eyes remained closed.

His lips curved up in satisfaction, and he reached out to smooth the crease between her brows.

Luna, still feigning sleep, used every ounce of her strength to keep her eyelids clamped shut.

She was terrified that if she opened them, she would have to awkwardly lock eyes with Blaze.

As Blaze’s hand faintly caressed her forehead, she somehow drifted off to sleep without even realizing it.

「That same night.」 Eliana Yates stared at her follower count, which had surged by over a hundred thousand, and found it impossible to sleep.

It was the biggest follower boost she’d ever had since becoming a vlogger, and it shattered her creative block.

’At this rate,’ she calculated, ’I can raise my rate for a single ad to 300,000.’

Eliana Yates tallied up her potential income, having also discovered a new direction for her content.

’Oh my god. So the secret to getting views is exposés and feminism.’

She checked the edits on her new video one last time, carefully deliberated over the caption and tags, and then clicked upload.
