When His Nauseous Sweetheart Frowns, the Tycoon's Family Takes Turns Pampering Her-Chapter 45: Luna Axton, You’re Finished
Luna Axton sniffled, trying to keep her nose from running.
"It’s just..." Her voice was thick with congestion. "I wanted to read picture books to Lucky, but you had to take over. You don’t want Lucky to get familiar with my voice."
She had meant it as a simple statement of fact, but it came out sounding like an aggrieved accusation.
Blaze Fairchild was stunned.
He lifted Luna Axton’s chin. Her eyes were rimmed with red, looking pitiful as if she’d suffered a great injustice.
His heart softened, and his tone gentled along with it.
"I wasn’t trying to take over. I just thought you must be tired from reading, so I’d read instead."
"Really?" Luna Axton was still unconvinced. "It wasn’t because you want to separate me and Lucky?"
It dawned on Blaze Fairchild belatedly what she was trying to say.
"So this is the ’divorce’ you were talking about?"
"Mhm!"
A smile played in Blaze Fairchild’s dark eyes, as if he’d discovered something amusing.
"If I was just going to divorce you, why would I have married you in the first place?"
"Because you want this baby, and because you want Grandpa Fairchild to be happy."
"Ohh~" Blaze Fairchild recalled. "Back when we got married, I suppose that was true."
Luna Axton’s brief moment of calm was shattered. ’Is he admitting it?’
’Admitting that he’d still choose to divorce me and separate me from Lucky.’
’Lindsey was right after all. The only thing in Blaze Fairchild’s eyes is his own self-interest. All he wants is the child.’
Luna Axton tilted her head to the side, preventing him from touching her chin.
Blaze Fairchild chuckled, not planning to tell her the truth. Instead, he decided to take advantage of the situation.
"If you do as you’re told, I might consider not divorcing you."
’Do as I’m told? What part of my life isn’t already following his orders?’
’Yoga, Pilates, and three meals a day—I’m following the schedule to the letter. And he was the one who insisted on taking over Dr. Miller’s lessons.’
"What? Can’t you do that?"
Blaze Fairchild leaned to the side to see her face. Her beautiful eyes were filled with stubborn defiance.
As if possessed, he leaned in and gave her a light kiss.
BOOM~
Luna Axton, who had been fuming just a moment ago, froze instantly.
It was as if fireworks were blooming over her head—dazzlingly bright, a field of starlight, dreamlike and illusory.
And there, right in front of her, Blaze Fairchild’s face was smiling again!
’Why is he smiling?’
Blaze Fairchild let her remain dazed. ’She’ll have to get used to this sort of thing, after all.’
He straightened the books that were spread across the bed and placed them on the nightstand.
"Ready for bed?"
"Mhm." Luna Axton hadn’t recovered yet, and her reply was dazed. "It is time for bed."
In the pitch-black room, Luna Axton snuggled under the covers and, like a little thief, stuck out her tongue to lick the spot Blaze Fairchild had kissed.
’Blaze Fairchild kissed me twice today.’
’Why did he kiss me? And why did he look at me and smile afterward?’
Her mind already fuzzy from the kiss, Luna Axton fell asleep almost as soon as her head hit the pillow.
In her dreams, someone kissed her forehead and pecked her on the lips.
Someone whispered in her ear, "I’m not getting a divorce. Divorces are a hassle."
The warm breath tickled the inside of her ear unbearably.
But she was simply too tired and just wanted to sleep.
She reached out, pushed the annoying thing away to stop it from disturbing her sleep, and mumbled drowsily,
"I’ll be good... I wanna sleep... I want Lucky... sleep..."
Blaze Fairchild pinched her cheek, the corners of his lips curving into a handsome arc. "You’re the one who said you’d be good, hm?"
In the silent room, aside from the sound of a heartbeat, no one answered him.
Knowing she was exhausted, Blaze Fairchild let her be, allowing her to sleep comfortably.
Once New Year’s Day passed, the atmosphere of the new year was everywhere, and everyone began looking forward to the Spring Festival.
Luna Axton found herself busy as well, preparing for her final exams and an internship interview.
Even though her mother had been discharged from the hospital, she still wanted to do her internship at Concordia Medical Hall.
An opportunity like this was incredibly rare, and she had to seize it.
Her mother was living at Crimson Hall, healthy and strong, and they could see each other every day.
After that meal on New Year’s Day, Rosalind Fairchild had indeed not appeared at the Fairchild Estate again.
Luna Axton observed Grandpa Fairchild. His life went on as usual, and occasionally, Jenna Axton would visit to play chess or paint with him.
Knowing that Grandpa Fairchild hadn’t been affected, her heart was put at ease.
「One day.」
Luna Axton was at Lakeside Manor reviewing her lessons in preparation for her final exams.
Mrs. Creed said someone from the Frost Family had arrived to take her mother’s pulse.
Luna Axton put down her books and notes and headed for Crimson Hall.
The one who had come to take the pulse was, once again, Ethan Frost.
"Assistant Frost, how is my mother’s condition?"
She waited until Ethan Frost had finished taking the pulse and washed his hands before she asked.
"There are still remnants of the poison. This type of pulse is very rare. You can come feel it for yourself."
Ethan Frost had always regarded her as an eager student. Unusual pulses were rare, and when one was encountered, he hoped she would have the chance to feel it and remember it.
Traditional Chinese medicine relies on a master-apprentice system. Without guidance, it’s very difficult for young, inexperienced doctors to notice many of the subtle nuances.
Luna Axton held her breath and placed her fingers on the pulse. She pressed down deep. It was sharp and swift under her touch.
’The qi is clearly weak, yet the pulse is so rapid. That contradiction is the crux of the problem.’
’The medicine meant to strengthen her constitution and restore her vitality is bolstering her spirits, but it’s also fueling the poison.’
’What on earth can be done?’
Seeing her grave expression, Ethan Frost’s admiration for her grew.
Seeing the two of them fall silent, Jenna Axton said, "I’m sure it’s nothing serious. I feel warm, and besides getting tired easily, nothing else is wrong. It must just be qi deficiency. I’ll rest up, and by spring, when all things come to life, I should be fine."
"Yes. It’s much better than before, but we can’t risk any aggressive medication. We still have to take it slow." Ethan Frost was more experienced; he didn’t let his thoughts show on his face, to avoid alarming the patient.
"My father and grandfather are both at home. I’ll report back to them, they’ll write the prescription, and I’ll bring the medicine over."
Ethan Frost took his leave. After exchanging a few words with Jenna Axton, Luna Axton also left, using her busy study schedule as an excuse.
She caught up with Ethan Frost at the entrance of the Fairchild Estate.
"Assistant Frost, what kind of poison does my mother have? Why is it so strange?"
Ethan Frost didn’t answer right away. Instead, he asked her, "What about your father? Why hasn’t he come to live with you two?" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
’What does this have to do with my father?’ "I don’t have a father. It’s always just been me and my mom."
Ethan Frost understood. That explained it.
"The poison your mother was given is an ancient aphrodisiac. It’s a drug used between men and women... to enhance things in the bedroom."
Luna Axton’s pupils widened in utter shock.
"With repeated sexual intercourse, the toxicity of this drug will slowly dissipate. Conversely, if the patient has no conjugal life, the poison naturally cannot be expelled."
"So you’re saying her current body heat is also because of the poison."
"Yes."
’Where am I supposed to find a father for my mom? She hasn’t dated anyone in all these years.’
"Can it be completely cured with medicine?"
"It can, but it will take a while. The process is long, so we’ll need to be patient."
"I understand. Thank you, Assistant Frost." ’As long as medicine can cure it, that’s all that matters.’ She was terrified of her mother’s liver having problems again.
"Good luck on your final exams. My father and grandfather are both very curious about you."
’Two great masters of medicine are curious about me? What have I done to deserve that?’
"Right, I’ll do my best. I want to thank the two masters in person. No, three," she corrected herself.
"You’re including me?"
Luna Axton nodded. "Yes."
Just as Blaze Fairchild’s car drove in, he saw Luna Axton standing at the gate, talking and laughing with Ethan Frost.
’I’ve never seen her smile like that before.’
’No, that’s not it. I *have* seen that look of admiration in her eyes before.’
’When they were shopping on New Year’s Day and talking about the female employee benefits at Evergrow Group, her eyes had lit up just like that as she praised me for being amazing.’
’And now, here she is, standing at the Fairchild Estate, giving that same expression to another man.’
’She’s pregnant with my child, yet she dares to look at another man with that same expression.’
Blaze Fairchild gritted his teeth. ’Luna Axton, you are so dead.’
