When His Nauseous Sweetheart Frowns, the Tycoon's Family Takes Turns Pampering Her-Chapter 37: Even a Shower Requires a Clock-In
Jenna Axton had come intending to reveal her identity, so she wasn’t the least bit scared when Julian Fairchild recognized her.
In fact, she was happy that someone recognized her.
"Mr. Fairchild, it’s me, Adriana. Adriana Frost."
Julian Fairchild froze, finding it hard to believe. He looked her up and down.
The woman before him and the Frost family’s youngest daughter...
He hadn’t seen her in over twenty years. He had some memory of her, but with his advancing age and fading memory, the image in his mind was blurry. Still, the general outline seemed to match.
’Isn’t she Luna’s mother? Isn’t she Mrs. Axton?’
"How can this be?" Julian Fairchild couldn’t wrap his head around it.
"For various reasons, I went to live in Kensing City and became a high school teacher."
Julian Fairchild nodded in understanding. "Then you and the Frost family..."
He didn’t finish his sentence, not wanting to put Adriana Frost in a difficult position as an elder.
"I haven’t been in contact with them for many years either."
A faint sorrow tinged Jenna Axton’s voice. ’I thought I wouldn’t be sad talking about the Frost family.’
"Mr. Fairchild, I came to see you today while the children are out. Firstly, I want to thank you for letting me recuperate in the best part of the Fairchild Estate. Secondly, I want to ask you to pretend you don’t know me."
Julian Fairchild understood now. It explained why he always found that child, Luna, so polite and pleasant to be around.
With a mother as kind and warm-hearted as Adriana, it was no wonder her child turned out so well.
However, pretending not to know her would be difficult.
"It’ll be hard to keep it a secret. You used to come over often to keep Susie and Blaze company. Most of the long-time staff at the Fairchild Estate will remember you."
"Also, Rosalind comes back occasionally too. You’re bound to run into her sooner or later."
Jenna Axton said with an air of mystery, "Mr. Fairchild, as long as you pretend you don’t know me, everyone else will follow suit."
’As for Rosalind Fairchild, she has some sense. She wouldn’t shoot herself in the foot by telling everyone that Adriana Frost is at the Fairchild Estate.’
"Alright, this old man will play along. It’s not like I have anything better to do."
Jenna Axton mimicked the old-fashioned fist-and-palm salute. Sitting in her wheelchair, she clasped her hands and bowed to Julian Fairchild. "Thank you, Mr. Fairchild."
The gesture brought a rush of memories, and Julian Fairchild laughed heartily. "You’re just as old-fashioned as your father."
"That’s just how he is. After my mother passed away... well, there was nothing to be done. No one can handle him. He’s just a stubborn old coot."
At the mention of Theodore Frost, they both fell silent.
Julian Fairchild gazed at the clouds for a long moment before speaking quietly, "Sigh... It’s been so many years since we’ve seen each other. A while back, I heard from Miles..."
Remembering she hadn’t lived in Valoria for years and might not be up to date, Julian Fairchild explained, "Miles is Rosalind’s husband. He works for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, too."
"He was implying that your second brother is likely being transferred back because your father is getting on in years."
"I see," Jenna Axton said, her expression unchanging, but inside, her heart was pounding like a drum.
’I left the Frost family on my own. I can’t bear to face any of them again.’
’Whether it was my older brother, Mason Frost, or my second brother, Russell Frost, they were both children the Frost family could be immensely proud of.’
’Thankfully, I’m just the Frost family’s adopted daughter. I don’t share their blood.’
’My mediocrity won’t bring shame upon their lineage.’
"Don’t you want to go see him? Your father is even older than this old coot, you know," Julian Fairchild said, reading the complex emotions in her eyes.
’Adriana was the daughter that old fellow Theodore Frost doted on. Whatever misunderstanding happened, it was decades ago. Surely they can let it go by now.’
Jenna Axton shook her head, her tone firm. "No. In my current condition... I’ll wait until I’m fully recovered. I don’t want him to worry about me at his age."
She used it as an excuse to change the subject.
Julian Fairchild didn’t know what had happened within the Frost family for their youngest daughter to cut off contact for so many years, or why Theodore Frost had made no apparent effort to find her.
Every family has its own struggles, so he couldn’t pry. He could only console Jenna Axton.
"Since you’re living here now, and you have Luna with you, you two should just focus on being there for each other. Health and family—that’s what’s most important."
"Yes." ’Being with Luna is what I need to do for the rest of my life.’ "Thank you, Mr. Fairchild."
"So, should I still call you Adriana?"
"I changed my name to Jenna Axton. Jenna, as in a classic beauty."
’She changed her name... Did she take her husband’s surname, Axton?’
’Luna said it was just her and her mom at home.’
This only deepened Julian Fairchild’s confusion, but he simply smiled and nodded, keeping his questions to himself.
Having already spoken to Julian Fairchild, Jenna Axton felt no pressure as she and Luna Axton went to see him. They acted as if it were their first meeting, exchanging pleasantries and chatting for a long time.
Blaze Fairchild didn’t return for dinner, so the three of them ate and chatted, enjoying the wonderful atmosphere.
’Mom’s condition is improving, and she’s getting along so well with Grandpa Fairchild.’
Luna Axton was in a cheerful mood. As she got ready to take a shower, she lightly hummed a melody she made up on the spot.
She sent a message to Blaze Fairchild: "I’m about to take a shower. Is now a good time for a video call?"
Several minutes passed, but Blaze Fairchild still hadn’t replied.
Luna Axton waited on the sofa, getting so antsy she was about to grab a book. Just as she reached for one, the ringtone for a video call went off.
Luna Axton sighed in resignation and pressed the green button.
Blaze Fairchild’s expressionless face appeared on her phone screen. On his end, the line was filled with a clamor of voices and chatter.
Suddenly face-to-face through the screen, Luna Axton felt so awkward her toes curled inside her shoes.
’I should say something to make this less awkward,’ she thought, ’but I have nothing to say to Blaze Fairchild.’
She gave up, propped up her phone to face the bathroom door, and got up to take her shower.
Blaze Fairchild, for his part, remembered perfectly well that she needed someone to watch her while she showered.
Even when he wasn’t home, he’d figured out this solution: watching over her via video call.
It was the kind of thing that sounded vaguely perverted, but with her and Blaze Fairchild, it was as formal and rigid as clocking in for work.
It was all because Blaze Fairchild was worried she might faint in the shower and that no one would be there to find her.
As the year drew to a close, the number of cocktail parties and business events began to multiply. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Blaze Fairchild minimized the video window, held the phone in his hand, and prepared to return to the banquet hall.
"Well, well, Young Master Fairchild. Who are you hiding out here to call?"
A teasing voice drifted over from behind, and a long arm draped itself over Blaze Fairchild’s shoulder.
Blaze Fairchild rolled his eyes, too lazy to bother with him.
Wyatt Kingston paid Blaze Fairchild’s coldness no mind. After all, his friend just loved to be so stoic.
"Ian~"
He drew out the name, his tone long, cloying, and effeminate.
Hearing it come from a grown man’s mouth was enough to make the owner of the name himself feel sick.
Blaze Fairchild shrugged his shoulder, shooting Wyatt Kingston a warning glance. "Tired of having that hand?"
’He wouldn’t put it past Blaze Fairchild. The man threw away useless things just so they wouldn’t take up space.’
"I want it, I want it! How am I supposed to build my empire from scratch without my hands? You gonna provide for me?!"
"You think you can handle being a kept man?" Blaze Fairchild retorted, raising an eyebrow.
"C’mon, Leo, just invest in me! I guarantee I’ll make you money. I’m no freeloader, but I can make mooching look like a power move."
Wyatt Kingston hurried after Blaze Fairchild toward the banquet hall, obsequiously pounding on his shoulder with his fist and launching into an unending stream of arguments.
But before he could finish, he saw Yvonne Rhodes slithering over like a snake.
"She’s practically tying herself into a pretzel!" Wyatt Kingston said with disgust. "Can’t you change up your tastes? It’s seriously gross."
"Why would I? It’s killing three birds with one stone."
"I have no idea what you’re talking about. But seriously, Leo, you should really invest in me. There’s no way I’ll lose."
Before Blaze Fairchild could answer, Yvonne Rhodes had already sashayed over.
She gave Wyatt Kingston a small nod and cooed, "Young Master Kingston."
Without even glancing at her, Wyatt Kingston clapped Blaze Fairchild on the shoulder and advised him like a true friend.
"Buddy, I know you might be desperate, but you can’t be *that* desperate. If your eyesight’s going bad, you should get it checked."
Blaze Fairchild raised an eyebrow, a hint of amusement in his tone. "Done talking about your ’guaranteed moneymaker’ of a project?"
Wyatt Kingston scrambled back, ever the sycophant, and presented a glass of champagne with both hands. "President Fairchild, right this way, sir."
Yvonne Rhodes stared at their departing backs, gritting her teeth and stomping her foot in anger.
’New Year’s Day is just around the corner, and I still don’t have a single photo with Ian.’
’But that’s Young Master Kingston, the heir to Stellacube. He has endless ways to make people fall in line.’
’I can’t just force my way over.’
’Stellacube has produced countless award-winning actors, actresses, and A-list idols. They’re masters of manipulating media and public attention.’
’Aside from a business titan like Ian, no one dares to disrespect Young Master Kingston.’
’Getting on Wyatt Kingston’s bad side would do me no good.’
