When His Nauseous Sweetheart Frowns, the Tycoon's Family Takes Turns Pampering Her-Chapter 36: Working Hard to Live a Good Life
Luna Axton arrived at Pinehurst Estate.
Julian Fairchild saw that although she had dark circles under her eyes from lack of sleep, her spirits were high.
"Your heart can finally be at ease now, can’t it?"
"Grandpa, my mother hasn’t fully recovered yet. Once she’s rested for a while, I’ll bring her over in her wheelchair to thank you."
Julian Fairchild genuinely liked this child, Luna Axton. Every time he saw her or spoke with her, he was all smiles.
"Good. Health comes first. Being healthy is the most important thing."
"Grandpa, I made a little something for you when I was out with my friends last time." Luna Axton took the item out of its box and held it in her hand for Julian Fairchild to see. "This is for you, Grandpa."
It was shaped like a mountain, its undulating peaks perfectly suited for resting a calligraphy brush.
Using tangerine, white, and gray, Luna Axton had painted a scene of a golden mountain bathed in sunlight, giving it a majestic and grand appearance.
"Oh my..." Julian Fairchild turned it over in his hands, a distant memory suddenly surfacing. "Your grandmother and I..."
The moment Julian Fairchild thought of his late wife, his eyes reddened.
"I proposed to your grandmother on a mountaintop, you know."
"We both loved hiking, so I thought I had to propose at sunrise. That would be truly romantic."
As Julian Fairchild spoke, his voice choked with emotion. Luna Axton panicked for a moment. "Grandpa~"
It was the first time she had ever given Grandpa Fairchild a gift, and she had made him cry. She felt apologetic but also didn’t know how to comfort him.
"Grandpa, I’m so sorry. I didn’t realize it would make you think of Grandma. I’ll pick something else for you. I won’t give you this one."
But Julian Fairchild, as if afraid she would snatch it away, immediately clutched it to his chest, holding it tight.
"No way. You gave it to me, so it’s mine."
Luna Axton couldn’t help but laugh at Grandpa Fairchild’s childlike behavior.
"Next time I get you a gift, Grandpa, I’ll ask what you like first."
Julian Fairchild replied, "Then where’s the surprise in that?"
His hand gently caressed the mountain range, the memory of his proposal growing ever clearer.
"This is a wonderful gift. I love it. After dinner, I’m going to take it to show your grandmother. In my whole life, she was the only one I ever loved. But... her health was poor. She worried too much after marrying me all those years ago. She was utterly exhausted and never really got to enjoy many good days."
Grandpa Fairchild’s eyes were fixed on the brush rest as he spoke from the heart.
"You and Blaze... you’re still young. You have to be like you were today, always helping each other. That’s how you’ll have a companion in your old age."
"When you get old, if you don’t have a partner by your side, you have no one to share your private thoughts with. It’s incredibly lonely."
Luna Axton felt a prickle in her nose as she listened. "I understand, Grandpa."
Worried that the girl was overthinking things again, Julian Fairchild added,
"Don’t you worry too much, either. Just take care of yourself. If anything needs doing, just tell Blaze to do it. For daily life matters, go to Mrs. Creed or Uncle Foster. The most important thing is for you to be happy. Your happiness is more important than anything."
"Grandpa, I’ll learn, slowly but surely. And I’ll try my best to live a good life," Luna Axton promised.
’But I would never dare order Blaze Fairchild to do anything.’
Luna Axton didn’t know what a husband and wife were supposed to be like.
Growing up, the only married couple’s daily life she’d ever witnessed was that of Ms. Brooks and Mr. Coleman. To her, being a couple probably meant taking care of each other in daily life and talking things over when problems arose.
Hearing her words, Julian Fairchild just smiled without elaborating. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
’Life after marriage really isn’t something you can get right just by trying hard.’
’You have to experience all its different flavors for yourself. And it takes two to make it work.’
He also knew not to meddle too much in the young couple’s lives, so he simply encouraged Luna Axton, "Yes, you’re a good girl. Grandpa isn’t worried."
「By the time Jenna Axton had adjusted to life at Crimson Hall, New Year’s Day was already approaching.」
Luna Axton’s morning sickness had ended without her even noticing. When she realized it, she couldn’t even remember when it had stopped.
Blaze Fairchild had also become very busy lately. She wanted to make the atmosphere between them less distant.
But Blaze Fairchild often came home very late, and she wouldn’t even see him at dinner.
The lessons he was supposed to take with Dr. Miller were personally postponed by him until after the New Year.
When Blaze Fairchild said this, he was completely straight-faced, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
At the time, she had grumbled inwardly about him. ’So now you finally realize you’re too busy, huh!’
After resting quietly for a period and starting on Chinese medicine, Jenna Axton’s spirits improved considerably.
When the sun was out, she could wheel herself around the courtyard to get some exercise.
However, on the morning of the second day of taking the medicine, she woke up and vomited a large pool of black blood.
This terrified Grant. Grant ran to Lakeside Manor to report it but was stopped by Blaze Fairchild.
"What is it?"
Blaze Fairchild’s brows were tightly knit, clearly displeased with her reckless behavior.
"Mrs. Axton vomited blood! A huge pool of it."
Blaze Fairchild shot to his feet, grabbed his phone, and strode quickly toward Crimson Hall. On the way, he told Grant in a stern tone,
"The Young Madam is pregnant. Don’t go running around in a panic. You’ll make her anxious, and something could happen."
Grant hurried to keep up, not forgetting to answer Blaze Fairchild. "Yes, Young Master. I’ll remember. It won’t happen again."
Blaze Fairchild called Ethan Frost, who said this was a normal phenomenon. He added that she might also have diarrhea in the next two days, all of which were normal physical reactions to the Chinese medicine.
Only after confirming that Jenna Axton had no other discomfort did Blaze Fairchild dare to tell Luna Axton.
Luna Axton’s reaction was much calmer than he had expected. He, on the other hand, had gotten himself all worked up.
On this day, Jenna Axton dressed herself in more formal attire and had Mrs. Creed wheel her to Pinehurst Estate.
"Since both the kids are out and I’m feeling better, it’s time I went to see Mr. Fairchild and thank him."
Jenna Axton looked at the familiar scenery. It had been 23 years since Susie passed away, yet the view at Fairchild Estate remained the same.
Standing in the wintry Fairchild Estate, a thread of sorrow welled up in her heart. "Susie left us too soon."
"Indeed. What Miss Rosalind did back then was just too cruel. The Master was never the type to philander."
As a servant, Mrs. Creed had seen more than anyone.
Compared to other prominent families, the Fairchild Family was truly upright and clean—with the exception of Miss Rosalind.
"She hated Ian and Susie because they said Rosalind Fairchild and my second older brother were incompatible and refused to play matchmaker."
"She was constantly by the pregnant Susie’s side, telling her that her own father was keeping a mistress. Ian was so busy he barely had time to breathe and couldn’t pay much attention to Susie. The misunderstanding grew deeper and deeper, and all of it was what led to Susie falling ill from depression."
Mrs. Creed felt a pang of sadness thinking of the Madam’s face, but she knew Mrs. Axton must be feeling even worse. She offered a comforting thought, "Ian has made us all proud. He took over the Evergrow Group."
As they neared Pinehurst Estate, the two of them tacitly dropped the subject.
Julian Fairchild was dozing in the sun, his eyes closed. It was hard to tell if he was asleep.
Jenna Axton didn’t call out to him, sitting quietly to one side and basking in the sun with him.
A cloud chased across the sky, blocking the sun and casting a shadow over the ground.
In the winter, the air would turn chilly the moment the sunlight disappeared.
Julian Fairchild slowly opened his eyes and gathered his clothes a little tighter around himself.
Only then did he see Jenna Axton sitting in her wheelchair beside him.
"You’re... Luna’s mother." Julian Fairchild looked again, a little uncertain. "You look familiar. Which family’s little girl are you?"
