Chapter 25: Chapter 25: Be a Little Gentler

Yvonne Rhodes was in a departmental meeting when she received the message from Rosalind Fairchild.

The Public Relations Department played a crucial role in managing Evergrow Group’s external relations, and it was also responsible for maintaining various connections and developing new markets.

"The media team can proceed with the reports for the various year-end activities as planned. Our president keeps a low profile, and there’s no business news that needs handling."

The department head was a capable and sharp woman who delegated tasks with crisp efficiency.

"Next, the corporate hospitality team. It’s the end of the year, so I need you all to be on high alert."

The manager’s sharp gaze landed on Yvonne Rhodes, noticing her head was down, completely zoned out.

"Especially you, Yvonne. You’ve accompanied the president to the most events, so you know the most about our various executives and important clients. Share that information with your team members."

Hearing her name called, Yvonne Rhodes, who had been looking down at her phone, immediately flashed a coquettish smile and cooed a soft, drawn-out "Okay."

Her teammates felt a wave of visceral discomfort but couldn’t let it show.

For one, Yvonne Rhodes was genuinely excellent when it came to maintaining client relationships.

And for another, there was that subtle relationship between Yvonne Rhodes and the president. She always called him Ian.

Who knew if the president had a thing for her type? If she actually became the president’s wife, they’d all be in big trouble.

"Alright, that’s it for today’s departmental meeting. Keep up the good work, everyone."

"We will, we will."

Everyone echoed the manager’s words and began heading back to their desks.

Yvonne Rhodes opened her phone and looked again at the message from her aunt.

’So, it’s true. Luna Axton is pregnant.’

’That baby should have been mine.’

’I should have been the one to marry Ian.’

’I was the one who had dinner with Grandpa Fairchild that day.’

’Now, Luna Axton has stolen it all from me.’

Yvonne Rhodes clenched her fists, gritted her teeth, and made a silent vow.

’Just you wait, Luna Axton. Sooner or later, you’ll have to give back everything that isn’t yours.’

’Ever since she was a child, as long as her aunt was around, there was nothing she couldn’t get.’

’All she had to do was listen to her aunt obediently and do exactly as she said.’

After replying to Rosalind Fairchild’s message, Yvonne Rhodes casually opened a few makeup and fashion apps.

Jenna Axton’s surgery was a success. The stomach bleeding and ascites were effectively alleviated, and the sallow color of her face had faded.

Luna Axton went to the hospital every day to sit and chat with Jenna Axton.

Seeing her mother’s complexion improve day by day helped her peacefully cope with the morning sickness that had been troubling her.

One day, after her session with Dr. Miller, Luna Axton was told to prepare for a prenatal check-up.

"Have you spoken to Mr. Fairchild about the check-up?"

Blaze Fairchild was very busy; Luna Axton could tell.

He ate dinner at home every day, but he would return to Lakeside Manor to work overtime right after.

Blaze Fairchild wouldn’t be back in their room by the time she went to sleep, so she only ever saw him in the morning.

"I’ve put it on his schedule. Mr. Fairchild places great importance on the prenatal check-ups. I just wanted to let you know in advance, in case you had other plans."

"Okay. As long as he knows."

As the baby grew, her morning sickness worsened. She became drowsy, felt a tightness in her chest at certain smells, and would feel nauseous at the sight of oil floating in soup.

It got to the point where Dr. Miller and Mrs. Creed had no idea what to make for her to eat.

Whenever her morning sickness acted up, Blaze Fairchild would frown and watch her with a worried expression.

She wouldn’t flatter herself by thinking Blaze Fairchild was worried about her.

He only cared about the baby’s health.

That was why Blaze Fairchild would surely accompany her to the prenatal check-up.

And just as she’d thought, Blaze Fairchild cleared two hours from his schedule to go with her to the appointment.

The check-up was at a private hospital, a comprehensive facility that integrated prenatal examinations, delivery, and postpartum care.

For families that required it, the hospital also provided one-on-one family pregnancy consultants, and Dr. Miller was an employee there.

During the check-up, it was Blaze Fairchild who did all the talking with the doctor.

The doctor asked, "Has your wife been feeling any discomfort recently?"

Blaze Fairchild thought for a moment before listing them out in detail.

"She has morning sickness. The smell of cooking fumes or the sight of greasy food makes her feel unwell."

"She’s been using the restroom more frequently and gets up during the night as well."

"She also gets leg cramps, and they often go numb."

Luna Axton sat to the side, listening quietly as a warm feeling spread through her heart.

’So, Blaze Fairchild had been observing her so carefully, in ways she never even knew.’

The doctor was always pleasant with responsible family members. "You’re a very meticulous and considerate husband, sir. You must love your wife very much."

"There’s no need to worry, sir. The frequent urination is caused by the growing fetus pressing on the bladder. I’ll prescribe a liquid calcium supplement for Dr. Miller to pick up. If your wife takes it on schedule, it should help alleviate the leg cramps."

"Understood." Blaze Fairchild listened intently, nodding as he committed the doctor’s words to memory.

"Your wife’s morning sickness is severe, but all her vitals are good. Keep her spirits up, and take her for walks outdoors often. The baby is perfectly fine. The time and details for the next check-up are in her booklet. Dr. Miller can just schedule the appointment."

Out of the corner of her eye, Luna Axton noticed a smile spread across Blaze Fairchild’s face when he heard the baby was doing well. "Okay, thank you very much."

He had very white teeth, and his features softened considerably when he smiled.

"Also, your wife is entering the second trimester, so you should be careful with sexual activity. Be gentle."

Blaze Fairchild froze for a second. When he processed what the doctor said, his tone was a little unnatural. "Understood."

Luna Axton hadn’t thought anything of it at first. She and Blaze Fairchild had only been together that one time, and it hadn’t been a good experience.

But Blaze Fairchild’s reaction made her feel a faint heat rise to her cheeks.

She and Blaze Fairchild only slept in the same bed; they each had their own blankets and pillows.

The doctor’s final instruction was, "If anything comes up, come in at any time. The hospital has doctors on duty 24 hours a day."

"Thank you, Doctor," Luna Axton said as she got up and walked out.

The baby was healthy, so Luna Axton was in a good mood.

The baby’s due date was right during summer break. After her month of postpartum confinement, she could go back to school.

During winter break, her belly wouldn’t be too big, so it wouldn’t interfere with her internship.

Her mother’s condition had improved, and she could even get out of bed and move around now.

The helper hired to look after her mother after the surgery had been staying with her constantly. Blaze Fairchild’s intention was that Luna needed to rest more.

Her mother had agreed, so Luna let the helper take over.

From the day she and Blaze Fairchild had gotten their marriage license until now, today was the first time she finally felt like life was becoming a little smoother.

Blaze Fairchild was waiting for Luna Axton by the car.

’She looks lost in thought. What’s on her mind?’

This wife of his, though six years his junior, was someone he was generally satisfied with.

She was quiet, smart, perceptive, and not someone who would let herself be easily bullied.

’She just walks too slowly.’

Once she was in front of him, Blaze Fairchild said, "I’m heading to the office."

Luna Axton had been thinking about her internship. Startled by Blaze Fairchild’s voice, she was a bit dazed. "Oh."

"The doctor said your mom can be discharged in a few days. New Year’s is coming up. Where in the house do you think would be a suitable place for her to stay? I’ll have Mrs. Creed prepare it."

’Bring Mom home from the hospital.’ 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

Luna Axton’s vacant gaze focused, and she looked at Blaze Fairchild with a beaming smile.

"About where she’ll stay, let me ask my mom first," Luna Axton replied. She knew her mother; she might not be willing to live at the Fairchild Estate.

Other than Lindsey’s mom, Ms. Brooks, her mother was always afraid of being a burden to anyone else.

So, Luna Axton honestly didn’t know if her mother would agree to stay at the Fairchild Estate.

Blaze Fairchild knew Luna Axton had been through a lot recently. He started to say something, then hesitated.

’I’ll just tell her when I get home from work.’
