Chapter 140: Chapter 140: Reunion

Russell Frost had only told his older brother, Mason Frost, that he would be back for the May Day holiday.

So, Ethan Frost had moved a chair out early, brewing tea and reading in the courtyard as he waited for his youngest uncle.

Now, seeing the four people who had just walked in, he was a little bewildered. Standing in the courtyard, he greeted them one by one.

"You’re back, Uncle."

"Hello, Mrs. Axton."

"Hi, Luna."

"Hey, Blaze."

The other three all nodded in response, but Luna Axton was the youngest in both seniority and age.

Seeing Ethan Frost’s confusion, she could only brace herself and call out, "Ethan."

"Is your grandfather home?" Russell Frost asked Ethan.

"Oh, yes. Grandpa’s been busy with publishing matters recently. He’s in the study proofreading." While answering, he also took the chance to update his uncle on his grandfather’s recent activities.

When Ethan saw his uncle’s expression darken slightly, he knew he had something to discuss with his grandfather and immediately offered, "I’ll go get him."

Russell said, "No need. Just take care of Blaze and your sister."

’Sister?’

Ethan’s astonished, incredulous gaze swept over to Luna Axton.

’Luna Axton is his sister? His youngest uncle’s daughter!’

’That’s impossible, right?’

’But... his uncle said it himself.’

The adults all went into Theodore Frost’s study, leaving the three younger ones in the courtyard.

Ethan Frost paced back and forth between the living room and the courtyard, his eyes glued to the closed study door.

’Why isn’t there a single sound?’

He had prepared fruit, nuts, and drinks, serving Blaze Fairchild and Luna Axton in the courtyard.

Ever since he was little, he’d heard his parents mention that the family had a youngest aunt.

But she had left without a word and hadn’t contacted the family in over twenty years. Everyone was worried about her, living all alone out there.

For as long as he could remember, his youngest uncle had been searching for her.

Especially when Ethan was in elementary school, his uncle’s emotions had been extremely volatile.

Whenever his uncle was home on leave, he would see him drinking and sobbing his heart out in that one room no one was allowed to enter.

His mother told him that everything related to his youngest aunt was in there, and that he shouldn’t disturb his uncle.

He hadn’t understood back then, but after learning about romantic love, he realized: his youngest uncle was in love with his youngest aunt.

As Ethan Frost sipped his tea, he glanced inadvertently at the "new sister" sitting across from him.

The Mrs. Axton whose pulse he’d been taking was the very aunt his uncle had spent over twenty years looking for.

It was a shame he’d never seen a photo of his aunt when he was growing up; otherwise, he definitely would have recognized her.

Back when he learned the patient’s name was Jenna Axton, his father had even joked, "Jenna... Hearing that name, for a second I almost thought our Adriana was back."

’What a twist of fate.’

Ethan Frost tilted his head back and looked up at the azure sky.

’Is there a god up there? Is this some kind of divine drama?’

Luna Axton sat in silence, taking in every one of Ethan Frost’s expressions.

Whatever he was thinking was written all over his face.

Now, seeing him staring up at the sky, Luna couldn’t help but smile.

’Art imitates life, after all. Who’s to say that all the strange and wondrous stories aren’t just reflections of reality?’

When Ethan Frost lowered his head, he saw Luna Axton staring right at him.

He said unnaturally, "Sister, have some lychees. I tried them, they’re definitely sweet."

"Thanks, Ethan."

The next second, the previously silent Blaze Fairchild pushed a plate of peeled lychees in front of Luna Axton. "Eat up."

Seeing this, Ethan Frost pursed his lips and smiled.

’I’m her actual cousin, and Blaze is still getting jealous!’

Ethan’s gaze fell on Luna, and he couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for Blaze.

Luna’s attention was completely focused on the translucent fruit, and she didn’t notice Blaze’s slightly furrowed brow at all.

’This budding romance... it seems especially interesting in its own way.’

「In the study.」

Theodore Frost clutched his reading glasses in his hand.

His expression was cold and somber as he looked at the daughter who had been out of contact for twenty-three years.

He felt a tightness in his chest, and his words were laced with anger. "You ran away from home. When your mother passed away, she didn’t even get to see you one last time."

The thought of his late wife filled him with regret.

Adriana was the child his wife had doted on the most, raising her from a young age and tending to her as carefully as a delicate flower.

In the end, she couldn’t even see her daughter before she died. From his wife’s perspective, how could that not be a profound regret?

Jenna Axton thought of her mother, who had accepted everything about her with the patience of a calm river. A deep remorse began to spread through her heart.

But her mother was already gone; there was no way for her to make amends. This would be a pain she carried for the rest of her life.

The thought of the deceased matriarch cast a heavy pall over the study.

"Father," Russell Frost began, "Adriana and I have already registered our marriage, and I’ve brought her home. Mom loved her most when she was alive. She would be so happy that she’s back."

At these words, the other three people in the study had varied expressions.

Mason Frost and May Ford looked at each other first, and saw happiness in each other’s eyes.

The couple was happy for their younger brother.

And then there was Luna in the courtyard—they wanted a daughter too!

Especially a daughter as beautiful, intelligent, and understanding as Luna. Who wouldn’t adore such a precious darling?

When Theodore Frost heard they had gotten their marriage certificate, his brow furrowed in disapproval.

But he knew full well what his youngest son had been through for the past twenty-plus years, living under the same roof.

Even on her deathbed, his wife had been worried about this son.

Now, he had not only found Adriana but had also brought her home.

And Adriana... that child was the apple of the whole family’s eye.

It wasn’t just how much the Frost family themselves adored Adriana.

After Adriana turned eighteen, countless families with sons in Valoria had, both openly and secretly, inquired if she had anyone she liked.

Now that his daughter was back, how could he, as her father, bring himself to say a single harsh word?

Theodore Frost heaved a heavy sigh and only asked his youngest son, "Have you two thought this through?"

Russell Frost straightened his back, tucked his chin slightly, and said firmly, "Yes."

"As long as you both understand, then live your lives well from now on."

He had dedicated his entire life to Traditional Chinese Medicine.

His wife had raised their children well; they all had minds of their own and had rarely given him cause for worry.

As if by silent agreement, Jenna Axton and Russell Frost reached for each other’s hands, their fingers lacing tightly together.

Mason and his wife, sitting behind them, saw the small gesture.

The couple exchanged a look. May Ford shot him a glare, and as if a switch had been flipped, Mason Frost spoke up. "What about Luna?"

"Right." His older brother’s question reminded Russell of his daughter. "Luna is mine and Adriana’s child."

"What?" No matter how much Theodore Frost had experienced in his life, he couldn’t stay seated at this.

He remembered it crystal clear. When Ethan had come back from taking Luna’s mother’s pulse, they had scoured ancient texts and consulted fellow practitioners, only to discover that she had been poisoned with an ancient aphrodisiac formula. The drug itself was vicious, but the person who administered it was even more venomous.

Luna was Russell’s daughter, and she was already so old. This meant that Adriana had been pregnant with Luna when she left.

’Who poisoned her?’

Theodore Frost’s clear eyes suddenly turned sharp and fierce.

’In all of Valoria, who would have the audacity? Who would dare to harm Theodore Frost’s beloved daughter?’

"What exactly happened back then? We came back from the funeral for the Fairchild family’s Young Madam, and you just vanished."

He was determined to get to the bottom of this and retaliate. Anyone who dared to lay a hand on his daughter had to be prepared to bear the consequences.

"It was Rosalind Fairchild," Jenna Axton said truthfully.

Theodore Frost slammed his hand on the desk and shot to his feet. "How dare she!"

"Because she’s always been in love with Second Brother. She repeatedly asked Ian and Susie to help her arrange a private meeting with him. When they didn’t help, she... added something to my water at Susie’s funeral."

Jenna Axton recounted the events of that year in detail.

The family listened, gritting their teeth, their hands clenched into tight fists.

Finally, Jenna Axton added, "What happened between Blaze and Luna... that was also Rosalind. She drugged Blaze."

Mason Frost sucked in a sharp breath.

Blaze was Rosalind’s own nephew, her older brother’s only child! More than that, he was the guarantee of her continued wealth and status.

’How could Rosalind bring herself to do it? Her heart is black!’

"I’m going to the Fairchild Estate right now! I’m going to ask Julian Fairchild if he’s going to control this lawless daughter of his or not!"

Theodore Frost said, making a move to head for the Fairchild Estate.

Jenna Axton stopped him. "Father, Mr. Fairchild has already punished her."

"Before the end of last year, Mr. Fairchild was hospitalized because of Rosalind. And when the Jacobs family had their troubles, he didn’t intervene to help them."

"Luna is pregnant now. All I want is for the baby to be born safely."

At the mention of Luna Axton, all the anger that had been flaring up in them instantly dissipated.

That was right. Luna’s safety was the most important thing right now.

During Luna’s internship at Concordia Medical Hall, not only did Blaze Fairchild personally drive her to and from, but a female bodyguard was also watching over her constantly.

Blaze Fairchild was the one most terrified of any accidents.

Luna giving birth safely was the top priority at the moment.

Seeing that everyone was still resentful, Jenna Axton continued, "Rosalind is still Mr. Fairchild’s daughter, after all. I imagine that as long as she doesn’t do anything else out of line, Blaze won’t move against her."

After a long silence, Theodore Frost finally said, "Then she’d better pray for her own good fortune."

His proofreading work was urgent; he couldn’t divert too much energy to other matters.

He made the decision. "Since you’re back, settle in and stay here. Bring Luna back to live here too. The family should have a proper reunion."

Russell Frost had already discussed this with Jenna Axton, so he followed up on his father’s words. "After dinner, we’ll also make a trip to the Fairchild Estate to see Mr. Fairchild."
