Chapter 85: Chapter 85: You Climbed onto the Bed Yourself

Vivian Quinn looked utterly baffled. "What are you talking about? He’s just my friend."

"Go ask around! See who believes he only has friendly feelings for you!"

Vivian Quinn froze for a moment, then quickly shook her head with conviction. "Impossible. The way I am now, there’s no way he could have feelings for me."

"Vivian Quinn, I’m a man. I know how men think."

"You’re really overthinking this." Vivian Quinn shook off the messy thoughts. "Just get some rest. I’m going to check on the soup."

That evening, Jett Sterling insisted on having Vivian Quinn stay and look after him.

"I don’t like having other people around. You must sleep in the master bedroom and stay with me."

Vivian Quinn: "..."

"Can’t I sleep next door? You can call anytime if you need something."

"No."

Vivian Quinn had no choice but to give in, getting a blanket from the walk-in closet.

The man frowned. "You’re going to sleep on the sofa again?"

"Yes."

"Vivian Quinn, you’re my wife. You should be sleeping in the bed."

"Jett Sterling, stop being so unreasonable." Vivian Quinn lay down on the sofa. "As soon as you’re better, we’re getting a divorce."

"Vivian Quinn, if you say the word ’divorce’ again, I’ll make sure my body never heals. Just try me!"

Vivian Quinn was left speechless. She rolled over, her back to him.

Her sleep was fitful, and she found herself trapped in a nightmare, unable to struggle free.

In her daze, a light seemed to appear above her head, and a man’s gentle, deep voice whispered in her ear, "Vivian, I’m here. Don’t be afraid."

She felt her cold hands being held. Craving the warmth from his palm, she clung to his hand, never wanting to let go...

...

When Vivian Quinn woke up, it was already broad daylight.

She slowly opened her eyes, only to find herself not only on the bed but also cradled in Jett Sterling’s arms.

Vivian Quinn hastily pushed him away. "Jett Sterling, what are you doing!"

Roused from his sleep, the man opened his eyes. "What’s wrong?"

"I’m the one who should be asking what’s wrong! How did I get on the bed?!"

"You climbed up here yourself, of course."

"Impossible!" Vivian Quinn stated firmly. "There’s absolutely no way I climbed up here on my own!" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

She hadn’t even dared to drink any water before going to sleep, precisely to avoid getting up to use the bathroom and sleepily climbing into his bed!

Vivian Quinn suddenly recalled something. "Jett Sterling, you carried me to the bed, didn’t you?"

"And what makes you say that?"

"The day you rushed out to save me, you had to have been running! Your legs aren’t disabled at all!"

The man admitted openly, "That’s right."

"...Why did you lie to me!"

"I wasn’t trying to deceive you; I had to deceive everyone. Vivian, the Sterling Family is a dangerous place. I had no choice but to pretend to be disabled."

Vivian Quinn could imagine as much. After all, what sane person would want to sit in a wheelchair and pretend to be disabled?

"If you have to keep up the act, then why did you rush out to save me? Weren’t you afraid of being exposed?"

Jett Sterling gazed at her intently. "Vivian, you’re more important than anything."

A sharp pain pierced Vivian Quinn’s heart, and she quickly averted her gaze. "I’m getting up... And don’t carry me onto the bed again. The way things end for us is not going to change."

That afternoon, Rachel Quinn called unexpectedly.

Vivian didn’t pick up. A moment later, she received a text: *Vivian Quinn, does Joy Chase’s life mean nothing to you?*

Vivian frowned and immediately called Joy Chase, but there was no answer!

She then called the caregiver, who answered in tears. "It’s terrible, Miss Quinn! I was just about to call you. Joy... Joy’s gone!"

"How could that be!" Vivian was stunned. "Didn’t I hire bodyguards to protect her?!"

She had predicted Rachel Quinn would do something desperate and use Joy to threaten her, so she’d hired two bodyguards. She never imagined something would go wrong anyway!

"I don’t know! I just went to get her medication, and Joy was gone when I got back! The bodyguards said they’d gone for a smoke and didn’t see Joy leave!"

Vivian closed her eyes. "Have the hospital pull the security footage right now!"

"Right away."

Vivian hung up the phone and called Rachel Quinn.

Rachel Quinn’s light laugh came through the receiver. "Vivian Quinn, and here I thought you were so tough."

"Rachel Quinn, if so much as a single hair on Joy’s head is touched, I will make you pay a thousand times over!"

"Vivian Quinn, weren’t you the one always stressing that Joy Chase is my biological sister? We sisters are just having a reunion. You should be happy for us."

"You didn’t take Joy for no reason. What do you want? Say it!"

Rachel Quinn scoffed. "The Quinn Group is gone. The board members are all coming to blame me, and even the Grant Family is looking down on me with scorn. This is all because of you!"

"Get it straight, Rachel Quinn. The Quinn Group was destroyed because you crossed Jett Sterling. You humiliated him in public—it’d be a miracle if he didn’t retaliate," Vivian said coldly. "You can’t handle Jett Sterling, so you abduct Joy to threaten me. How pathetic!"

"I don’t care!" Rachel Quinn shrieked hysterically. "You’re already so sullied, yet Jett Sterling still took you home! What does he want? Huh? He can’t possibly still be hung up on you, can he?!"

"So you’re afraid Jett Sterling will stop at nothing to destroy you for my sake, and that’s why you’re being so ruthless?"

"That’s right, Vivian Quinn! I want you to die! Only when you’re dead can I have peace! If you want Joy Chase to live, you have to die!"

A text arrived on her phone. It was from the caregiver: *Miss Quinn, your line was busy. All the hospital’s security footage has been destroyed. We can’t see how Joy left the room at all!*

Vivian closed her eyes, then spoke. "Rachel Quinn, I need to hear Joy’s voice. I have to know she’s safe."

"Fine."

A moment later, Joy Chase’s cries came through the phone. "Sis, don’t worry about me! I can’t keep dragging you down! Leave me alone! Mmph—"

"Rachel Quinn, what did you do to her!"

"Calm down. She was being too loud, so I just shut her up." Rachel Quinn’s voice suddenly turned vicious. "But Vivian Quinn, my patience is limited. Be at the location I give you before five o’clock, and come alone. Otherwise, you can get ready to collect Joy Chase’s corpse!"

The line went dead. Vivian Quinn gripped her phone, fighting to keep calm.

’I can’t let anything happen to Joy, and I can’t let anything happen to me!’

...

「At five in the evening」, Vivian Quinn arrived promptly at an abandoned warehouse.

Rachel Quinn was sitting in an old chair, waiting for her. "Vivian Quinn, it looks like my gamble paid off."

"Where’s Joy?"

"Do you think I’m a fool? That I’d leave Joy Chase here for you to rescue?" Rachel Quinn chuckled and threw a small vial at her. "Eat what’s inside, and of course, I’ll let Joy Chase go."

Vivian Quinn picked up the vial, opened it, and sniffed. "A fast-acting poison. The kind that kills you before you could even get to a hospital."

"You publicly humiliated Jett Sterling, and, overcome with shame, you ultimately chose to commit suicide. It’s a perfectly plausible story."

Vivian calmly closed the cap. "Hand over Joy, or you’ll be the one taking this poison today!"
