Wedding Night: My Disabled Husband Made Me Cry-Chapter 82: Vivian, I’ll Take You Away
Jett Sterling took it. His deep, dark eyes stared at the folder in his hands for a long time before he slowly opened it.
Easton Rivers reported, "Three years ago, the Quinn Family held an eighteenth birthday party for your wife and Rachel Quinn at The Aethelgard Hotel. They invited many guests, but Rachel knew how to work the crowd and was the center of attention, while your wife was merely a sidelight."
"But after that birthday party, the Quinn Family never let your wife appear in public again. She took a leave of absence from school and essentially vanished for almost a year before returning to her studies."
"I’ve checked all the hospital records. There are no records of her having any prenatal checkups or giving birth. If your wife really was pregnant and had a child, she either didn’t go to a proper hospital, or all traces were wiped clean."
Jett Sterling closed the file and shut his eyes in pain. "Investigate."
"Yes, sir." Easton Rivers bowed his head. "Madam... and by that, I mean your mother. I hear she’s furious that you’ve kept your wife here to take care of you. The Sterling Family is also closely monitoring your actions. Because of the situation with your wife, they’ve decided to call a shareholders’ meeting."
"Give the order. No one is to disturb me while I’m recovering. Nothing is more important than Vivian right now. Also..." A chilling glint flashed in the man’s eyes. "The Quinn Group doesn’t need to exist anymore."
"Yes, sir."
...
「The next morning.」 A doctor came to check on Jett Sterling and administer his medication.
Her phone suddenly rang. Vivian Quinn glanced at it and quickly answered, "Joy?"
"Sis, can you come to the hospital?"
Vivian’s heart skipped a beat. "What’s wrong? Are you not feeling well?"
"No, it’s not that. Just... come to the hospital."
"Okay, I’m on my way."
Vivian hung up and looked anxiously at the man in the hospital bed. "That was Joy. I’m worried something’s happened to her. I have to go see her."
"Go on. Come back soon."
"Okay."
Jett Sterling and Joy Chase weren’t in the same hospital. The drive between them was half an hour.
Vivian rushed to the hospital room. "Joy, what’s wrong!"
"Sis!" Joy said excitedly. "Look who’s here!"
Vivian took a closer look and exclaimed in pleasant surprise, "Dr. Landon? You’re back!"
Sitting in a chair by the hospital bed was an exceptionally handsome young man. He wore a well-tailored gray suit and gold-rimmed glasses, exuding an air of gentle refinement and nobility.
"Vivian, long time no see." The man’s face held a smile. He looked like a prince straight out of a manga, and his voice was as pleasant as an elegant violin.
"Long time no see. When did you get back?"
"I just arrived last night. I came to see you and Joy today."
Joy’s eyes were shining. "Sis, Mason came to see us as soon as he got back!"
"Thank you, Dr. Landon. That’s very thoughtful of you."
Mason Landon feigned a serious expression. "If you call me Dr. Landon again, I’m going to get angry."
Vivian scratched her head, embarrassed. "Mason, thank you."
"Vivian, we haven’t seen each other in so long. Let me take you to lunch. There’s something I wanted to talk to you about, actually."
"Okay. Have a seat. I need to step out for a moment."
"Okay."
Vivian went to the billing office. "Joy Chase’s funds should be running low, right? I’m here to add more."
The staff member checked and said, "There’s still over nine hundred thousand left."
"What?" Vivian frowned. "Is that a mistake? We never deposited that much money."
"It’s for Joy Chase. There’s no mistake."
Vivian thought for a moment. "Could you check the payment history for me?"
"One moment." The staff member quickly found it. "There was a recent deposit of 200,000 and another of one million, so the account balance is more than sufficient. Also..."
"Also what?"
"It seems the account has been linked for automatic refills. When the balance drops below 200,000, it’s automatically topped up. Miss Quinn, it looks like you won’t have to worry about Joy Chase’s medical expenses anymore."
"I see. Thank you."
Vivian left quickly and sat on a bench outside the hospital room, lost in a daze.
’I don’t even have to ask. I know Jett Sterling paid for this.’
’In the past, I would have been grateful and thought of ways to repay him. But now... I’m afraid I can never repay him.’
"Vivian?" A pleasant voice by her ear interrupted Vivian’s thoughts.
She looked up sharply and saw Mason. "What is it?"
"I was going to ask what’s wrong with you. Why are you sitting here crying by yourself?"
Vivian raised a hand to her face and only then realized it was wet with tears.
"I’m fine."
"Vivian, let’s go find a place to sit and talk."
"Okay. We did say we’d get lunch. Wait here, I’ll go let Joy know."
"Okay."
The two of them went to a high-end restaurant and got a private room.
After they ordered, the waiter left. Mason took a sip of water and said, "Vivian, I’m sorry. I came back too late."
"You’re not late. It’s just about time for my surgery. I’ll have to trouble you to perform it again. I hope my leg can go back to normal after this operation."
"That’s not what I’m talking about." A flash of heartache crossed Mason’s eyes. "I’m talking about what happened at the Sterling Estate that day."
Vivian’s face paled. "You know?"
"The Landon Family is also considered one of the prominent families in Aethelgard. The incident has become a topic of gossip, so it’s not surprising that I heard about it."
Vivian gave a strained smile. "How embarrassing." 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
"Vivian, I’m not laughing at you. I know exactly what kind of person you are. My heart just aches for you."
"Thank you." Vivian took a sip of hot tea and said, "Mason, the truth is, I’ve been waiting for this surgery. I want to be able to walk normally again. I want to become strong—so strong that no one can ever hurt me again."
"Vivian, I’m very confident about this surgery. I’ll get you back to normal. Trust me."
"I’ve always trusted you."
"Then what’s the deal with you and that man from the Sterling Family?" Mason’s hand, holding his teacup, tapped lightly against the porcelain. "You’re not the type to rush into a marriage."
"It’s a long story, but I’ll be getting a divorce soon." Vivian suppressed the bitterness in her eyes. "I have some things to deal with for a while, so the surgery might have to be postponed."
"Alright. That gives me more time to prepare."
Vivian nodded. "How long are you planning to stay this time?"
"That depends on you."
Vivian was suspicious. "On me?"
"Yes. Vivian, if you want to leave this place, I’ll take you with me. You’ve said before that you really like Pariden."
Vivian was taken aback. "Take me with you? Why?"
Mason smiled. "Don’t overthink it. I just mean I can go traveling with you to help you relax. I have a house in Pariden, so it would be convenient."
Vivian didn’t think much more of it. "Thank you, Mason, but I still have a lot to do in Aethelgard. And Joy’s condition hasn’t improved much. I can’t relax and go on a trip right now."
"Okay. I’ll wait for you. I’m sure all of this will pass. We can go traveling together then."
"Okay."
Meanwhile, in the hospital’s VIP ward.
Jett Sterling summoned Easton Rivers. "Why isn’t my wife back yet?"
Easton Rivers didn’t dare to answer.
"What is it?" The man’s brow furrowed. "Speak!"
