Chapter 52: Chapter 52: Jett Sterling, I’m Not Leaving

The corner of Vivian Quinn’s mouth twitched. "Why bring this up all of a sudden? Didn’t I already give them to you?"

"You did. But I was the one who prepared that lingerie in the first place, because I wanted you and Master Sterling to sleep together. It would have been best if you’d gotten pregnant, then Master Sterling wouldn’t be in so much pain..."

Vivian Quinn was taken aback. "How is he in pain?"

"The night of the auction was the first time you and Master Sterling argued. I don’t know what you fought about, but you said something that left Master Sterling in agony."

Vivian Quinn searched her memory, but she couldn’t recall. "What did I say?"

"You said that Master Sterling made you feel suffocated."

"...I think I might have said that."

"It was because of those words. Master Sterling felt helpless when it came to you. He started leaving early and coming home late just to avoid upsetting you. It wasn’t until he instructed me to have the chef secretly put something in your food that I guessed his goal."

"Young Madam, Master Sterling had no other choice but to resort to such a desperate measure. Otherwise, he would never have had the heart to deceive you."

Vivian Quinn pressed her lips together tightly, saying nothing.

"Later, you used the ’baby’ to get married, and I thought that if you just hurried up and conceived a real child, everything would be fine. That’s why I prepared that provocative lingerie for you. But I never imagined Master Sterling wouldn’t touch you. He even gave me a lecture the next day."

"I told him at the time that women are emotional creatures. As long as you slept together, it would be very easy to cultivate feelings. That way, even if the truth about the fake pregnancy came out and you learned the truth, it wouldn’t be a big deal."

"But Master Sterling scolded me. He didn’t say it out loud, but I knew he wouldn’t do something like that. I also knew he was waiting."

Vivian Quinn asked subconsciously, "Waiting for what?"

"He’s waiting for you to fall in love with him. He’ll only take that step when you are truly willing to consummate your marriage out of love for him."

Vivian Quinn froze.

"Young Madam, I’ve been by Master Sterling’s side for many years. I’ve seen him use the most despicable methods against his enemies. He’s immensely wealthy and a master strategist; whatever he wants to control, he can control completely. But with you, and only you, it’s different."

"Master Sterling doesn’t want to control you. On the contrary, he’s even willing to be bound tightly by you. It’s as if just having you want him is the greatest blessing imaginable."

"Young Madam, Master Sterling has always been high and mighty. Even the elders of the Sterling Family must obey him unconditionally. I have never seen him so humble."

Vivian Quinn was stunned for a long time. Easton Rivers’s words had shaken her to the core. She never knew there was so much more to the story behind the fake pregnancy.

"But why?" Vivian Quinn didn’t understand. "Why would he be... humble?"

"Young Madam, do you really not understand? Even someone like me, who’s never been in a relationship, can see that Master Sterling loves you!"

Vivian Quinn suddenly recalled what Jett Sterling had said during their confrontation that night.

_Vivian, you’ve never truly loved someone._

She had been furious at the time and hadn’t paid attention to his words, but it was obvious now: Jett Sterling had been talking about his own love for her.

But to her, "love" was too heavy a word. She thought Jett Sterling liked her, but not to the extent of being in love.

’Could I have been wrong? Is Jett really so deeply in love with me that he can’t pull away?’

Vivian Quinn found it hard to believe.

"Young Madam, the night you met Master Sterling, he had been poisoned and was clinging to life. The Sterling Family, being superstitious, arranged for a wedding to counteract the bad omen, and they ended up buying you to be the bride."

"I always thought of it as a terrible stroke of bad luck that he narrowly escaped. But I gradually realized that after that day, Master Sterling changed. The man he was before was always ice-cold, indifferent to everyone and apathetic about everything. But after you appeared, Master Sterling came alive. I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s like he was reborn."

"So, Young Madam, I’m begging you to give Master Sterling another chance. If someone must bear the consequences for the fake pregnancy, then you can punish me. I was the one who bought the medicine. I was the one who gave it to the chef. As long as you and Master Sterling can reconcile, I’m willing to accept any punishment, even if it means you fire me."

"I’m not that unreasonable." Vivian Quinn collected her thoughts and said, "I’d like to be alone for a while. You can go now."

"Yes."

The door to the side hall closed, and silence fell instantly. The only sound was the pitter-patter of rain against the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Vivian Quinn leaned back against the sofa, lost in a daze. She didn’t know how much time had passed before a frantic knock on the door pulled her back to her senses.

"Young Madam!" Nanny Jenner’s anxious voice came from outside the door. "The Young Master is calling for you!"

Vivian Quinn quickly got up and went out. When she reached the master bedroom, she saw that the man on the bed wasn’t awake, but he was indeed murmuring her name.

"Vivian... Vivian, don’t go..."

A sharp pain pierced Vivian Quinn’s heart. The excruciating ache shot through her entire body in an instant, so painful she could hardly breathe.

She went over, sat on the edge of the bed, and leaned down to hug him. "Jett Sterling, I’m here. I won’t go."

The sleeping man immediately tightened his arms around her.

Seeing Jett Sterling calm down, Nanny Jenner quickly closed the door and left.

The man held her very tightly. Vivian Quinn tried to shift into a more comfortable position, but she couldn’t move at all.

She had no choice but to kick off her slippers, climb onto the bed, and lie down in his arms.

His clean, pleasant, masculine scent immediately enveloped her.

Vivian Quinn looked at the handsome sleeping face so close to hers and couldn’t resist reaching out to poke his cheek.

"Jett Sterling, I really can’t see into your heart. What is it that you even like about me?"

"But that doesn’t seem so important, does it?" she murmured to herself. "What’s important is that... I’m actually quite happy when I’m with you. You’re not like Austin Grant. There’s no resistance or disgust in your eyes when you look at me. I can feel that, from the bottom of your heart, you can accept my body’s flaws..."

Tears streamed down Vivian Quinn’s face as she spoke. "Actually, I want to tell you, my face is healed now. I’m very beautiful. And my leg... it should be fine after one or two more surgeries. It’ll be just like a normal person’s."

"Jett Sterling, I don’t know what our future will be like, but I’m very sure that right here, right now, I want to be with you. It would be nice if we could just lie here like this, without worrying about all the chaos outside."

"If the world is going to throw a lot of storms my way, at least when I turn and come back to you, I can feel a sliver of peace. That alone is incredibly rare."

Vivian Quinn rested her cheek on his chest. "But let me make one thing clear: if you ever dare to bully me again, I won’t let you off easy. Do you hear me?"

The next second, a deep voice suddenly rumbled from above her. "I hear you. I’ll listen to my wife."

Vivian Quinn startled and shot her head up, only to see that the man had woken up. His eyes, full of mirth, were gazing deeply at her.

"How are you... Mmph..."

Vivian Quinn had just started to speak when the man’s lips stopped her words...
