Chapter 45: Chapter 45: Why Get a Divorce

"Hello, Mr. Quinn," Vivian Quinn greeted him warmly. "Did you need me for something?"

"I have something I’d like to discuss with you in person. Is now a good time?"

"It is." Vivian Quinn glanced at the time. "I’ll send you the address. You can come meet me?"

"Okay."

"See you in a bit, then."

"See you in a bit."

Vivian Quinn hung up the phone, and Shane Shaw immediately asked, "Who was that, Boss?"

"It’s the man I was just telling you about—Zachary Quinn, the one who keeps coincidentally running into me and helping me out."

Shane Shaw’s lip twitched. "What a coincidence. It’s like something out of a drama."

"He’s genuinely helped me out. I’m going to meet him after we finish eating, so we should part ways then."

"Okay, I’ll go look for an apartment for you."

"Okay."

...

The café where Vivian Quinn arranged to meet Zachary Quinn was right near the hot pot restaurant.

She had been sitting and waiting for five minutes when Zachary Quinn arrived. "Miss Quinn."

"Hello, Mr. Quinn. Please, have a seat."

Zachary Quinn sat down across from her and ordered a glass of water.

"Mr. Quinn, you made a special point to ask me out. It must be for something important, right?"

"It is." Zachary Quinn got straight to the point. "Miss Quinn, you mentioned wanting to repay me before. I was wondering if you were serious."

"Of course I was. I always keep my word."

"That’s good. I’d like to find a job by your side, Miss Quinn."

Vivian Quinn was confused. "Don’t you already have a job? Last time, you said you were a bodyguard, right?"

"Yes. My boss is difficult to work for, so I’m thinking of quitting."

Vivian Quinn looked a little troubled.

"Miss Quinn, is it inconvenient for you? If so, then just forget I said anything."

"No, that’s not it," Vivian Quinn said hurriedly. "I do actually need a bodyguard. If you don’t mind, then you can have the job."

’She had hesitated because she was considering her current financial situation; she probably couldn’t afford a bodyguard.’

’But then she thought about how both the Grant Family and the Quinn Family were threats looming over her. It would be good to have a bodyguard for protection. After all, her life was much more important than money.’

’As for the money, she would just have to find a way to earn it.’

Zachary Quinn asked, "Don’t you need to discuss this with your husband?"

"No," Vivian Quinn said flatly.

’Before, she certainly would have had to discuss it with Jett Sterling, but not anymore.’

"What’s wrong?" Zachary Quinn pressed. "Are you two having problems?"

"No." Vivian Quinn changed the subject. "I don’t know what your previous employer paid you. Tell me, and I’ll do my best to match it."

"It’s not a big deal. Just pay me whatever you see fit."

"Huh?" Vivian Quinn was puzzled. "If you’re not working for money, then what’s the point?"

"...What I mean is, while my previous employer paid well, it was a lot of work. I basically had to protect their entire family, young and old. It’s different with you. I only need to protect you."

"That’s true." Vivian Quinn nodded. "In that case, I’ll look into the standard salary for your line of work later. I’ll do my best not to underpay you."

"Okay."

Her phone suddenly rang. Vivian Quinn said, "Excuse me," and quickly answered the call. "Shane, what’s up?"

"Boss, I’m looking at apartments now. What’s your price range?"

"As cheap as possible. It can’t be too remote since I’ll be living alone. The size doesn’t matter; a small studio apartment would be perfect."

"Got it. I’ll call you again when I find something suitable."

"Okay."

"You’re looking to rent a place?" Zachary Quinn asked.

"Yes."

"To live with your husband?"

"No." Vivian Quinn gave a small smile. "Well, since you’re going to be my bodyguard, I won’t hide it from you. I’m preparing to get a divorce, so I need to move out of my husband’s place."

"But didn’t you just get married not too long ago? Why the divorce?"

"Incompatible personalities," Vivian Quinn said lightly.

Zachary Quinn didn’t press further. "If you really need to rent a place and move out, I happen to have a vacant apartment. I can lend it to you for a while."

"Really?" Vivian Quinn asked. "Is it an apartment you’re planning to rent out?"

"Yes."

"Then I can consider it."

"How about I take you to see it?"

"Okay."

Vivian Quinn called the waiter over to pay the bill, then got into Zachary Quinn’s car and left.

The car pulled into a high-end residential complex in the city center. Vivian Quinn frowned. "This is one of the most exclusive communities in Aethelgard. I think property prices here are over a hundred or two hundred thousand per square meter!"

"My family bought it; it’s registered under my name."

Vivian Quinn swallowed hard. "Mr. Quinn..."

"You can just call me Zachary."

Vivian Quinn corrected herself. "Zachary, forgive me for being blunt, but if your family can afford a place here, they must be quite wealthy, right? Why would you go through the trouble of being a bodyguard?"

"It’s a hobby."

Vivian Quinn: "..." She was actually speechless!

"Let’s go up and take a look."

"Okay."

Vivian Quinn followed Zachary to a large, single-floor apartment on the 29th floor. The moment he opened the door, she didn’t dare to step inside.

The living room alone was nearly 200 square meters!

"Mr. Quinn, I don’t need to rent such a large place. I just need a studio apartment."

"Don’t be hasty, Miss Quinn. Come on in first." Zachary led her inside. "I forgot to mention, I live right next door. So if you live here, it’ll be more convenient for me to protect you and fulfill my duties as a bodyguard."

Vivian Quinn: "..." ’What kind of setup is this?’

"Zachary, I’ll be honest with you. I don’t have a formal job right now, so I don’t have a stable source of income. The cheaper the rent, the better. I really can’t afford your place."

"As for the rent, just pay whatever you’re comfortable with. A few hundred, or even a thousand, is enough."

Vivian Quinn: "..."!!!

"A place like this must have a monthly rent of at least tens of thousands!"

"I’m not short on money."

"..." Vivian Quinn was completely floored. "Even if you aren’t short on money, I’m not going to take advantage of you like this. Thank you for your kindness, but I really can’t live here."

The man was silent for a moment before saying, "Alright, I won’t force you. If you’re not in a hurry to move, I can help you find a cheaper place. I have a friend who’s a real estate agent, so you could even save on the agent’s fee."

"That would be great," Vivian Quinn accepted readily. "Thank you."

"You’re welcome."

He walked Vivian Quinn downstairs to catch a cab. Only after the taxi had disappeared from sight did he take out his phone and make a call. "Buy two high-quality, one-bedroom apartments in the city center."

...

Vivian Quinn went straight back to the villa and headed to the walk-in closet to pack her things.

She didn’t have many belongings, just a single, small suitcase.

She placed the newly printed and signed divorce agreement on the nightstand, set the black card on top of it, then turned and left.

Just as she reached the door, she came face to face with Jett Sterling, who was entering in a wheelchair...
