Chapter 139: Chapter 139: I Can’t Lose Her

Vivian Quinn spun around. The moment she saw Jett Sterling, she rushed over and asked nervously, "How did it go?"

The man’s lips curved into a smile. "Vivian, your wish came true. We have a successful match. He can donate his bone marrow to Joy."

"Really?" Vivian Quinn was stunned for a moment. "Joy has a chance?"

"It’s true. I wouldn’t lie to you."

Vivian Quinn covered her mouth and wept with joy. "That’s wonderful! Joy is saved! So when can she have the surgery?"

"The hospital is already making arrangements."

Vivian Quinn slowly sank to the floor, sobbing softly.

"Vivian." The man reached out and gently stroked her hair. "It’s a happy day. It’s normal for you to want to release all the emotions you’ve been holding in, but everything is going to be all right now."

"Mm-hmm." Vivian Quinn nodded forcefully. "Thank you, Jett Sterling."

Jett Sterling chuckled. "Didn’t you already have Easton Rivers pass on your verbal thanks?"

"Oh, so you’re saying my verbal thanks aren’t good enough?" Vivian Quinn laughed through her tears. "In that case, I’ll be sure to thank you properly later."

"Good. I’ll be waiting."

Joy Chase’s surgery was scheduled quickly. Vivian Quinn didn’t know how Jett Sterling had communicated with the prison, only that they had agreed to let the man come to the hospital to donate his bone marrow.

The doctor spoke with Vivian Quinn, informed her of the surgical risks, and had her sign the consent forms.

Vivian Quinn signed the papers, waiting full of hope.

But when the scheduled time arrived, the person from the prison had still not been brought over.

Jett Sterling also felt something was wrong. He glanced at his watch, then turned to Easton Rivers. "Make a call and find out what’s going on."

"Yes, Master Sterling."

Easton Rivers took out his phone. Just as he was about to make the call, it suddenly rang.

He swiped to answer, but his expression gradually soured. Looking at Vivian Quinn, he said, "Ma’am, the vehicle from the prison was in an accident on the way here. Miss Chase’s father died at the scene."

Vivian Quinn froze. The world spun around her as she hurriedly asked, "Can his bone marrow still be used?"

Easton Rivers looked pained and shook his head slightly. "It wasn’t just a car crash. There was also an explosion. His body was severely burned, and the bone marrow is no longer viable."

"How could this happen..." Vivian Quinn’s legs gave out, and she collapsed to the floor. "I don’t believe it... I don’t believe Heaven would be so cruel to Joy!"

"Vivian..." Jett Sterling’s heart ached as if cut by a knife as he looked at her face, which was as pale as a sheet of paper. "Get up."

"Why did this happen?" Vivian Quinn looked up, her tear-filled eyes gazing at him helplessly. "Jett Sterling, can you please tell me why?"

"Vivian, you’ve already done everything you could." Jett Sterling bent down to help her up. "This is Joy Chase’s fate."

"She’s the only family I have left..." Vivian Quinn broke down, crying out loud. "Do you understand, Jett Sterling? Joy is truly the only family I have left!"

"How could that be?" The man cupped her face. "Am I not your family?"

"You’re different!" Vivian Quinn sobbed so hard she could barely breathe. "My Master is missing, and I drove Shane Shaw away... The only person who’s been with me all the way from the countryside to here is Joy. I can’t lose her, Jett Sterling! I really can’t lose her!"

"Vivian, don’t cry." Jett Sterling held her tightly. "I’m here. I’m right here. You don’t have to be afraid of anything."

The man looked up at Easton Rivers, who understood immediately and quickly went to get a doctor.

Jett Sterling continued to hold Vivian Quinn, and while she was lost in her sorrowful crying, he quietly lifted her sleeve.

The doctor immediately gave Vivian Quinn an injection in her arm.

Vivian Quinn snapped to her senses, turning her head to look warily at the doctor. "What are you doing!"

"Vivian, don’t be afraid," Jett Sterling explained. "I asked the doctor to give you a sedative. You’re exhausted. You need to get some sleep."

Vivian Quinn was about to speak, but her eyelids grew heavy. She closed her eyes and soon lost consciousness in the man’s arms.

Jett Sterling kissed her brow tenderly and ordered, "You may all leave now."

"Yes, sir." Easton Rivers quickly left with the doctor.

Jett Sterling stood up, lifted the girl in his arms bridal style, and placed her on the bed.

He covered her with the blanket, sat by the bed, and wiped the tears from her face. After a long while, he finally got up, sat back in his wheelchair, and went out.

"Master Sterling, what should we do now?" Easton Rivers stepped forward and asked.

"How could it be such a coincidence..." the man mused. "Investigate the car crash."

"You suspect it wasn’t an accident, but deliberate?"

"I’m a conspicuous target here at the hospital, and there are plenty of people who want to cross me. The possibility certainly exists. Find out the truth."

"Yes, sir."

"Keep searching for a suitable bone marrow match. Joy Chase cannot die."

"Yes, sir."

...

When Vivian Quinn woke up, the sky was already dark.

She opened her eyes, her thoughts quickly returning to her. She stared at the white ceiling, her face unnervingly calm.

"Vivian?" Jett Sterling came in and saw the girl was awake. He hurried over and asked, "When did you wake up? Why didn’t you call me?"

"Just now." Vivian Quinn looked at him. "Jett Sterling, thank you."

"For what?"

The girl said softly, "I was too emotional earlier. Giving me a sedative was the right thing to do."

Jett Sterling smiled. "I’m just glad you don’t blame me."

"How is Joy?"

"Same as always." Jett Sterling took her hand. "Vivian, I will do everything in my power to save her."

"I know," Vivian Quinn’s lips curved slightly. "The doctors you found and the medicine she’s using are the best available. If it were up to me, I wouldn’t have the financial means. Joy might have died a long time ago."

"So don’t put too much pressure on yourself. We’ve already done our best. As for the outcome... to be blunt, that’s up to her own fate. It’s not something we can control, understand?"

"I understand the logic." Vivian Quinn’s nose began to sting. "But when I’m actually faced with the possibility that she could leave me at any moment, I’m terrified."

"Vivian, even if something does happen to her, I’ll be here to bear it with you. You just have to know that you are not alone. You never will be." Jett Sterling squeezed her hand tightly. "Your Master is missing, but ’missing’ means there’s a fifty-percent chance he’s still alive. You drove Shane Shaw away, so we’ll go find him. I will help you get back everything you’ve lost."

Vivian Quinn bit her lower lip hard, but tears still streamed uncontrollably down her face.

"No more crying." Jett Sterling wiped away her tears. "If you have another breakdown, I’ll have to call the doctor to give you another sedative."

"No, I can’t sleep again." Vivian Quinn sniffled. "I have to take care of Joy. I can’t just keep sleeping."

"Then you’re not allowed to cry anymore."

"Okay."

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.

Suddenly, someone knocked on the door.

Jett Sterling composed himself and said in a low, cool voice, "Come in."

"Master Sterling, Ma’am." Easton Rivers walked in and reported, "Someone has arrived. They say they can save Miss Chase!"
