Wedding Night: My Disabled Husband Made Me Cry-Chapter 122: Because You Care About Me
Vivian Quinn took a sip of warm water and said calmly, "There has to be a proper reason for a divorce. What’s the point of getting one now?"
"Boss..."
Vivian Quinn cut him off. "I’ve been thinking a lot these past two days. I’m a poor judge of character. First, I misjudged Austin Grant, and then I failed to see Jett Sterling for who he was. Actually, the signs of his change were there all along. It was like he stopped caring about me overnight. He’d promise to pick me up from school but never show. He didn’t even notice when I had a bandage on my face from an injury."
"Even though I noticed he was changing, I didn’t think much of it. Instead, I just thought I was being too sensitive and shouldn’t worry about such small details."
"Shane, I admit it. I’m not confident when I’m with him. I even feel a bit insecure because I’ve had a child. So when everything happened, I lost my ability to judge the situation clearly."
Shane Shaw scratched his head. "Boss, I just want to know what you’re planning to do next."
Vivian Quinn smiled. "You don’t need to ask anything. I don’t want to drag you into this. Finish up what you’re working on as soon as possible and go abroad."
Shane Shaw swallowed nervously. ’It’s over, it’s over. Looks like the Boss really can’t let this go. She’s going to go head-to-head with Jett Sterling!’
Vivian Quinn ignored Shane Shaw, who looked like he wanted to say something but was holding back. She didn’t press him, simply ordering groceries and cooking. After they finished eating, she told him it was time to leave. "I have to go back to school tomorrow. You should hurry up and go abroad to take care of your own business."
Shane Shaw looked hurt. "Boss, it’s like you’ve become a different person. You’re so cold and distant. You’re actually kicking me out."
"You have your own life; you shouldn’t put it on hold for me. That’s the only way we can both move forward. And one more thing, stay out of my business with Jett Sterling from now on."
Shane Shaw sighed in resignation. "Alright, I’ll go deal with Diana Davenport first. Boss, call me if you need anything."
"Okay."

In the study, Jett Sterling stared at the documents in front of him, but he couldn’t focus on a single word. He pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration.
"Master Sterling," Easton Rivers said, walking in to report. "I’ve checked. Your wife hasn’t done anything unusual these past two days. She’s been staying in her apartment and cooking her own meals. Everything seems normal."
"It can’t be normal," Jett Sterling said with certainty. "Mason Landon was right about one thing: Vivian is the type of person who can move on. She wouldn’t cling to a scumbag like me. Even if she felt wronged and wanted revenge, she would definitely end the marriage first, because getting tangled up any further would only disgust her."
"So you’re saying your wife’s behavior is abnormal, Master Sterling."
"Investigate. Also, she’s living in the apartment alone now. Assign more men to protect her discreetly."
"Yes, sir."
Jett Sterling pulled the marriage certificate from his pocket, gently stroking the anxious, youthful face in the photo. He murmured to himself, "Vivian, what am I going to do with you..."
That evening, the doorbell to the apartment suddenly rang.
Vivian Quinn went to open the door and saw Mason Landon standing outside.
"Vivian, I’ve come to freeload dinner."
"Come in," Vivian Quinn welcomed him. "I was just about to make dinner. It’s going to be simple, though. I’m just making noodles with the chicken broth from lunch. Is that okay?"
"Of course."
Mason Landon followed her into the kitchen. Watching her slender back, he asked, "Did you not go out this afternoon?"
"I went to the hospital to bring some soup for Joy. I’m going back to school tomorrow, so I won’t have time to do it then."
"I see."
"You didn’t just come here to freeload, did you?" Vivian Quinn got straight to the point. "I don’t want to talk about Jett Sterling anymore. He’s not someone to be trifled with. You should stay away from me from now on, so you don’t get dragged into this."
"Vivian, do you really think I’m afraid of getting dragged into this?"
"You might not be, but I am. You know I hate owing people favors. Especially since you have feelings for me, there’s no way I can let you get involved." Vivian Quinn took a handful of dried noodles and dropped them into the pot. "Mason Landon, after this meal, I want you to stay out of my life."
"Vivian, can I take this to mean that you’re afraid of getting me involved because you care about me?"
Vivian Quinn: "..."
"Mason Landon, you’ve misunderstood." She denied it coldly. "I’m going to confront Jett Sterling. The outcome is uncertain, and I don’t care what happens to me, but I don’t want to drag anyone else down and have that on my conscience. That’s all."
Mason Landon walked to her side. "Vivian, you shouldn’t be making this choice. Divorce Jett Sterling. I’ll take you and Joy abroad. Trust me, you’ll be happy again."
Vivian Quinn stirred the noodles in the pot with her chopsticks, her voice calm and even. "Mason Landon, I’m grateful to you, but your kindness is a burden to me."
"I have no attachments left in this world. There’s nothing worth holding onto, and I don’t want to hold onto anything. That’s why I dare to confront Jett Sterling. Whatever the outcome, I don’t want anyone adding to my burdens."
Mason Landon clenched his jaw tightly. "Vivian, you’re not being fair to me."
"I don’t think so. If liking someone means they have to like you back, then when has Jett Sterling ever been fair to me?" Vivian Quinn took a deep breath. "I don’t want to discuss this topic anymore. If you want to eat, you can stay. If you want to keep talking about this, you can leave."
Mason Landon closed his eyes. "I’m sorry. I’ll stop."
The chicken noodle soup was ready quickly. The two of them sat at the dining table, each slowly eating in silence.
"Vivian." Mason Landon looked up at the elegant and cool girl across from him. "I won’t give up on you. If you’re going to confront Jett Sterling, I’ll be with you. I’ll be with you if you win, and I’ll be with you if you lose."
Vivian Quinn froze for a moment, then quickly put down her chopsticks and stood up to leave. "I’m full. Remember to close the door on your way out."
Mason Landon closed his eyes in pain, hiding the malice that flickered in their depths.
Vivian Quinn curled up on the sofa in her room. After an unknown amount of time, there was a soft knock on the door, followed by Mason Landon’s gentle voice from the other side. "Vivian, I’ve cleaned up the kitchen. I ordered some fruit for you. I washed it and left it outside. Remember to eat it. I’m heading back now."
The sounds from outside the door quickly faded. After a long while, Vivian Quinn finally got up and went out, where she saw a platter of cut fruit on the coffee table.
She sat down on the soft cushion, picked up a fruit fork, and began to eat. But everything she tasted was bitter, just like her mood.
「...」
The next morning, Vivian Quinn went to school right on time.
"Vivian Quinn!" Ian Sterling ran over and sat down beside her. "The bird’s nest incident has been perfectly resolved, and my uncle isn’t holding my mom captive anymore!"
Vivian Quinn was curious. "He was holding your mom captive before?"
"Of course! It was no small matter. The consequences were really serious."
"So what did your investigation find? Who was it that poisoned the bird’s nest?"
