Chapter 101: Chapter 101: You Want Me to Accept Him?

Vivian Quinn’s heart was in a knot. "Joy, please stop."

"Vivian, Mason Landon really does love you!"

"Joy!" Vivian Quinn raised her voice. "I’m already married. I’m another man’s wife. There’s no possibility for him and me. Are you trying to get me to take him back?"

"That’s not what I meant..." Joy Chase wiped the tears from her eyes. "Vivian, besides you, Mason is the kindest person to me in the whole world. I don’t want to see either of you get hurt, and I don’t want to see Mason unhappy."

"Joy, adult relationships aren’t as simple as you think. But one thing is very simple: you can’t lie to your own heart. And the person I love is Jett Sterling."

"Why?" Joy Chase was utterly baffled. "You two have only known each other for such a short time. It’s nowhere near as long as you’ve known Mason."

"Feelings have nothing to do with time," Vivian Quinn said, her expression serious. "Joy, your fondness for Mason shows that you’re a grateful person, but Jett Sterling is your brother-in-law. Do you understand?"

Joy Chase nodded. "I understand, Vivian. Don’t worry, I won’t do anything inappropriate that would affect your relationship with your husband."

Vivian Quinn stroked her hair. "That’s a good girl. Get some rest and don’t think about anything. Your only job right now is to focus on getting better."

"Okay."

Vivian Quinn waited until Joy Chase was asleep before getting up to leave.

Just as she stepped out of the hospital room, a wave of dizziness washed over her, and she started to fall forward!

"Vivian!" a sharp voice cried out as she fell into a firm chest.

Vivian Quinn looked up. The handsome face in front of her seemed to split into double images, spinning endlessly.

She shook her head, trying to see clearly. The next moment, she pushed him away.

A sharp pain pierced Mason Landon’s heart. "Do you really hate me that much?"

"I’m a married woman. We should keep our distance. Thank you for catching me, but I’m fine now. I’ll be going. Goodbye." Leaning against the wall for support, Vivian Quinn made her way to the elevator step by step.

Mason Landon watched her back, a faint, almost imperceptible smile touching his lips. He didn’t turn to leave until she had stepped into the elevator.

...

When Jett Sterling rushed back to Sycamore Bay, he found Vivian Quinn asleep in bed, her face pale.

"What happened?" Jett Sterling demanded of Nanny Jenner in a low voice. "How did Mrs. Sterling get home?"

Nanny Jenner bowed her head slightly. "The driver brought her home. She said she felt a little dizzy, so she lay down to sleep."

"Can’t you see how pale she is? Did you call a doctor?"

Nanny Jenner said quickly, "I’ll go call one right now!"

The doctor came and gave Vivian Quinn a brief examination but found nothing out of the ordinary.

Vivian Quinn had always been a light sleeper. Hearing the commotion, her eyes snapped open, and she stared warily at the person before her.

The doctor flinched, startled by her gaze.

"Vivian, you’re awake?" Jett Sterling wheeled himself forward. "Don’t be afraid. It’s the doctor." 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

"What’s the doctor doing here?" Vivian Quinn asked, curious. "Is something wrong with me?"

"You were sleeping, and you looked very pale, so I asked a doctor to come and check on you."

"Am I okay?"

"The doctor said you’re fine." Jett Sterling stroked her face. "Are you sure you’re not feeling unwell somewhere?"

"No, I don’t think so." Vivian Quinn thought for a moment. "I was probably just shaken up by Joy fainting earlier. I did feel a little dizzy on my way back."

"Master Sterling, I’ll prescribe some calming herbs to add to Mrs. Sterling’s food. It’s best to treat this with nutritional therapy."

"Go ahead and write the prescription," Jett Sterling instructed calmly.

"Yes, sir."

Once the doctor and Nanny Jenner had left, Jett Sterling stood up from his wheelchair and helped Vivian Quinn sit up. "Vivian, you scared me."

"I’m not that fragile," Vivian Quinn said with a smile, nestling into his embrace. "Don’t worry. I’ll stay perfectly healthy and grow old with you."

"It’s a promise."

After resting for a bit, Vivian Quinn went to the bathroom to freshen up before heading downstairs for dinner.

While eating, she looked at the man across from her. "Jett Sterling, I figured out why I was dizzy! It’s because I skipped lunch!"

Jett Sterling was speechless.

"Mrs. Sterling, you’re adorable."

The corner of Vivian Quinn’s mouth twitched. "I’m being serious."

"So am I."

Vivian Quinn fought back a smile. "Fine, then. I suppose I am pretty adorable."

Jett Sterling placed some more food on her plate. "Eat up."

"Mm-hmm."

After dinner, Jett Sterling dismissed all the household staff, changed into athletic wear, and went for a walk with Vivian Quinn in the garden.

Their fingers intertwined, Vivian Quinn asked, "Why did you send all the staff away? Is it so they won’t find out you aren’t really disabled?"

"The more people, the more eyes and ears. Besides Easton Rivers, no one else knows. I don’t want word of this getting out yet. Not even my mother knows."

Vivian Quinn looked shocked. "Wow, I’m responsible for such a huge secret! I’m so nervous!"

Jett Sterling was speechless.

"Mrs. Sterling, your acting is a little clumsy."

Vivian Quinn burst out laughing. "You saw right through me!"

Jett Sterling squeezed her hand. "Vivian, I wish time could just stop right here, with us holding hands, walking on like this forever."

"Master Sterling, aren’t your standards a bit low? You’d be satisfied with just this one moment?"

"Vivian, all I want is you."

"Well, I want a lot more than that," Vivian Quinn said thoughtfully. "I want to wake up, eat, and walk with you every single day. I want us to travel the world together, to go to places I’ve never been and see sights I’ve never seen."

"Okay." Jett Sterling’s deep, dark eyes were filled with tenderness. "Vivian, no matter where you want to go, I’ll go with you."

"It’s a promise."

"It’s a promise."

They walked for over an hour before heading back inside.

Vivian Quinn got a change of clothes for Jett Sterling. "You can shower first. I’ll call Nanny Jenner and the others to come back."

"Okay."

When Jett Sterling came out from his shower, Vivian went in for hers.

She was feeling tired, so she drew a hot bath. She closed her eyes and soon drifted off to sleep in the tub.

Jett Sterling waited for over half an hour, but Vivian still hadn’t come out. He got up, walked to the bathroom door, and knocked. "Vivian, are you still in the bath?"

There was no answer from inside, not even the sound of splashing water.

Jett Sterling’s brow furrowed. He knocked again. "Vivian, please answer me. Are you okay?"

Still, there was no sound from inside.

A sense of dread washed over Jett Sterling. He tried the doorknob without hesitation, only to find it locked from the inside.

Knowing something was wrong, Jett Sterling took two steps back and kicked the door with all his might!

BANG! The bathroom door was forced open!

Jett Sterling rushed in, and the sight that met his eyes nearly scared the soul out of him.

"Vivian!"
