Wedding Night: My Disabled Husband Made Me Cry-Chapter 100: He Really Likes You
The loose-fitting hospital gown hung on Joy Chase’s frame, making her look even more frail. On her pale, gaunt face, her eyes were wide with disbelief as she stared at Vivian Quinn.
"Joy, what are you doing here?" Vivian Quinn rushed forward to support her. "You forgot, you’re not supposed to be walking around."
"Sis, you and Mason... you two..." Joy Chase’s words were jumbled. "Was what you just said... true?"
Vivian Quinn was flustered. "Joy, let’s get you back to your room first."
Joy Chase followed her with feeble steps. She hadn’t taken more than two when her vision suddenly went black and she pitched forward!
"Joy!" Vivian Quinn quickly caught her. "Joy, what’s wrong? Don’t scare me! Joy!"
Hearing the commotion, Mason Landon shot up and rushed over. He swept the unconscious Joy Chase into his arms and carried her into the elevator.
Outside the emergency room, Vivian Quinn paced back and forth, her hands trembling uncontrollably.
"Don’t worry. Joy’s condition isn’t too serious. She’ll be fine," Mason Landon said reassuringly, leaning against the wall.
"Thank you," Vivian Quinn said, but she was far from calm.
Just as Mason Landon was about to ask if he should go into the emergency room to check on the situation, a distinctly deep voice suddenly sounded beside him. "Vivian."
He turned and saw Jett Sterling emerging from the elevator in his wheelchair.
A cold glint flashed in Mason Landon’s eyes as he shot him a cool look.
Jett Sterling didn’t fail to notice the challenging gaze, but he ignored it completely, going straight to Vivian Quinn and taking her hands. "How is she?"
Vivian Quinn’s voice was choked with sobs. "I don’t know. Joy just fainted. She’s been in there for half an hour, and there’s still no news!"
"Don’t be scared," Jett Sterling said, squeezing her hand. "Medical care is advanced these days. She’ll come out safely."p
Vivian Quinn nodded. "Mm-hmm..."
Mason Landon watched their clasped hands, the corner of his mouth twisting into a subtle, cold curve.
Only then did Jett Sterling slowly turn to face him. "Why is Dr. Landon here?"
"It seems Master Sterling’s memory isn’t what it used to be. I work here."
Jett Sterling gave a faint smile. "I don’t make a habit of remembering unimportant people or things."
Mason Landon: "..."
Vivian Quinn: "..."
The auras of these two men were simply too powerful, especially in this standoff. Vivian Quinn could feel the pressure in the air plummeting, so stifling she could barely breathe.
She felt inexplicably nervous. Swallowing hard, she said, "Mason, thank you for helping me get Joy here for treatment. I can wait here. You should go attend to your own business."
Mason Landon replied coolly, "I’m the one who brought Joy in. I’m certainly not leaving until she’s out of danger."
Vivian Quinn didn’t know what else to say.
After about half an hour more, the door to the emergency room finally opened.
Vivian Quinn rushed forward. "Doctor, how is my sister?!"
"She’s out of danger, but you’ll have to be extra careful with her from now on."
Vivian Quinn let out a sigh of relief. "I understand. Thank you, Doctor."
"You’re welcome. Dr. Landon already gave instructions to give Joy Chase special attention."
Vivian Quinn instinctively turned to look at Mason Landon, who was still leaning against the wall.
Their eyes met for a brief moment before Vivian Quinn quickly looked away. "Doctor, when will my sister wake up?"
"It won’t be for a little while. We’ll be moving her back to her room shortly. If you have any problems, just press the call button."
"Okay."
Jett Sterling went with Vivian Quinn to the hospital room to wait for Joy Chase to wake up.
He watched Vivian Quinn sitting by the bedside and asked, "Did you meet with Mason Landon alone today?"
Vivian Quinn paused, then turned to look at him. "We just ran into each other. He said he had something to tell me."
"What did he say?"
"He said you gave him a sum of money and told him to stay away from me."
Jett Sterling’s lips curved. "I gave him money to thank him for healing your leg. As for staying away from you, that was a reasonable request I made as your husband. I wasn’t using money to make him leave."
"Maybe he misunderstood, then. As long as you didn’t mean to humiliate him with the money, it’s fine."
"Vivian, I’m not above using money to humiliate someone. But it’s obvious he isn’t short on cash, so I wouldn’t waste my efforts."
"Okay."
"Is that all he told you?"
"What else would he say?"
Jett Sterling smiled. "He naturally had to emphasize his feelings for you."
Vivian Quinn: "..." ’Men really do understand other men!’
"I made things very clear with him. There’s nothing ambiguous between us, so you can rest assured."
Jett Sterling maneuvered his wheelchair to her side. "I’m not doubting you. I just want you to know that if he causes you any trouble, I can take care of it."
"Don’t..." Vivian Quinn said quickly. "I’ve kept my distance from him, and that’s enough. If you get involved, you’ll just make things more complicated. You’ll make it seem like there’s something going on when there isn’t."
"Alright. I’ll listen to you."
"Okay."
There was a sudden knock on the room’s door. Vivian Quinn went to open it and saw Easton Rivers standing outside. He bowed his head respectfully. "Ma’am, I’m looking for Master Sterling."
"He’s here."
Jett Sterling wheeled himself out. "What is it?"
"Master Sterling, we’ve identified the person who was secretly taking photos of you and Ma’am last night. They were hired by the Sterling Family."
Vivian Quinn was shocked. "Someone was taking our picture last night?"
"I told you someone was following us," Jett Sterling said, taking her hand. "Don’t be afraid. We’ve already found them."
"Why would the Sterling Family hire someone to take our picture?"
"Someone is always watching my every move. These people are relentless."
Vivian Quinn felt a surge of retroactive fear. "I shouldn’t have dragged you out for a walk yesterday. I thought no one would recognize us with our masks on, but I can’t believe we were still followed."
"Vivian, there was nothing wrong with going for a walk. The ones at fault are the people watching me from the shadows. Don’t worry, I’ll handle it."
"Of course I trust you. You just have to be more careful from now on."
"Okay." Jett Sterling brought her hand to his lips for a kiss. "You go in and stay with her. I’m just going to give some instructions, and I’ll be right back."
"Okay."
It wasn’t until that afternoon that Joy Chase finally woke up.
"Joy, you’re awake?" Vivian Quinn said, taking her hand. "How are you feeling? Does anything hurt?"
Joy Chase’s unfocused gaze lingered on her for a long moment before she finally spoke. "Sis, you and Mason..."
"Joy, this is grown-up business. Don’t worry about it. Mason and I had a little misunderstanding, and we’ve already cleared it up."
"He likes you. How could that be a misunderstanding?" Joy Chase said softly. "I heard everything. He likes you a lot... no, he loves you. Sis, Mason loves you. Even after you had a stranger’s child, even after you married someone else, he never stopped loving you. He really, really loves you..."
