Chapter 273: Invader (2)

"What do you mean by that?" I asked the system.

The only response that the system gave was opening up a notification that now had a different description for the main mission.

The one from before was to go on the training trip to the Myriad Beast Valley, but now...

"Slay the invader from the Green Hell Upper Realm."

That was the new updated main mission.

But the moment that I saw this, there were more questions that were raised.

"System...it says here that the invader is from the Green Hell Upper Realm, but the lynx never mentioned that. In fact, there hasn’t been a single mention that this invader is from an upper realm. How do you already know this?"

It sounded like a simple question, but there were deeper implications in this question.

Namely...

"Did you already know all of this and kept it a secret the whole time?"

To my surprise, the system actually came clean.

"Peeking into heaven’s secrets has karmic implications. While the system is able to learn certain things, the system cannot explicitly tell the host without both the system and host suffering karmic punishment. It’s only when the host obtains information related to this that the system can give the host a reward in the form of information."

"Karma, huh?" I knew that what the system said wasn’t a lie.

Since I had all these different laws, I had learned about the different laws that existed in this world.

The law of karma was one of those laws that I learned about.

There weren’t many people that were able to utilize the law of karma, but that didn’t mean that it was weak. Karma was what determined destiny, so it could be said that it controlled the natural flow of the world.

It was something that wasn’t easy to go against, so I could understand why even the system was wary of it.

"Alright, I believe you."

The system seemed to be letting out a sigh of relief, but I cut it off by saying, "I just hope that you will trust me a bit more in the future instead of having to indirectly threaten me like that."

The system was silent after I said this, but it eventually said in a slow voice, "Sorry."

Un, there was no way that the system didn’t have its own awareness with the way that it was acting today.

It seemed to have given up the pretense of acting like a mechanical system and was completely acting the way that it wanted to act.

In that case...

"I hope that we can move forward as true partners from now on. I know that you might not be able to control yourself one day, but I won’t blame you for that since I know that you’re doing the best that you can to help me."

There was another silence from the system before it said, "Host, the system is looking forward to working with you."

"Don’t call me host, just call me partner."

"Alright, partner..." The system’s voice seemed to trail off as it said this, almost as if it was embarrassed about saying this.

But I was in a good mood.

I was finally able to come to an understanding with the system and was able to reach an agreement with it.

It was hard to relax when there was a bomb over your shoulder that could explode at any moment, so I had been trying to figure out a way to deal with this bomb.

It was impossible for me to throw away the system since everything that I had came from the system, but I wasn’t going to just let myself be used by whoever created the system.

So the only compromise that I could think of was working with the system against whoever created it.

I was even more set on this plan when I confirmed that the system had its own thoughts.

Though my one concern was...why was it so attached to me?

Was it because it had been made for me?

Was this something that the creator of the system wasn’t even aware of?

But there was one thing that Lin Fan couldn’t see...

Inside of the golden palace, there was a girl who was lying on the ground with her hands covering her red face while she kicked her legs back and forth.

"Partner..." She said to herself before a wide smile appeared on her face.

Then she said in a softer voice, "It’s almost like husband, isn’t it?"

Once I had finished with the system, I turned my attention back to the lynx.

It had been looking up at me with a strange look since I had fallen silent after hearing what Mu Bao Bao said.

It wasn’t the only one that was looking at me with a strange look.

Everyone was doing the same as they waited to see what I was planning on doing.

I shook my head to clear my mind before looking down at the lynx to say, "Tell me everything about this invader."

The lynx gave a nod before it started telling the story of how it and the other Four Kings found this invader and then tried to take it down, only to be controlled by it.

When it was finished, it looked at me with what seemed to be a pleading look.

I didn’t need Mu Bao Bao to translate to understand what it was trying to say to me.

I patted it on the head and said, "I’ll do what I can to help them, they are victims after all."

The ’them’ that I was referring to were the other three Four Kings.

I would do what I can since they were indeed just victims of the invader.

However, I also had ulterior motives for this.

If I saved them and they were affected by the title, wouldn’t I be able to tame four Rebirth Realm Spirit Beasts?

Was there anything more like a prodigal young master to walk around with four Rebirth Realm Spirit Beasts?

So I was partly doing it for that.

The lynx looked at me with a grateful look before moving its head forward to nuzzle my chest.

It was just that before it could, Mu Bao Bao suddenly came forward to grab the lynx and threw it away before saying, "Alright, that’s enough of that! You’ve already had your turn!"

She was about to come forward to hold me too, but the lynx suddenly fell down after flipping a few times and grabbed her back.

The two of them started fighting like cat and dog, which caused me to shake my head with a smile on my face.

It was like seeing two dogs fighting for my affection which really was cute.
