Void Cultivation-Chapter 170- A hidden objective
By Grey’s estimation, it would only take a few more days before he returned to Green City. More importantly, that was also when the remaining wisp of Divine Sense inside the storage ring would finally disperse. Yet Grey neither grew excited nor anxious. He simply slipped the storage ring into his storage bag, adjusted his direction, and resumed his silent flight.
His expression remained unreadable the entire way. The middle-aged disguise he had worn had been completely destroyed during his battle with the Foundation Establishment expert, so now, every gust of sharp wind scraped against his pale, youthful face. Each blast made him shiver slightly.
Time blurred. Hours passed, and exhaustion finally surfaced within Grey’s eyes. With a slow exhale, he drilled underground and rested.
Whenever his body recovered enough strength, his eyes would snap open abruptly, a cold glint flashing within them. Then he would shoot back into the skies, continuing his quiet journey. The faint spiritual pull guiding him—connected to the old man’s lingering aura—drew him ever closer to Green City.
Meanwhile, every passing second caused the Divine Sense inside the storage ring to tremble faintly. Low panting sounds and weak, ancient sighs echoed within the ring, enough to make any listener feel as if some primeval existence were dying.
Had Grey probed deeper, he would have realized one terrifying truth: the Divine Sense was not weak at all—it was merely pretending.
After days of near-silence, a tired voice finally echoed through the spacious interior of the ring.
"Sigh... To think the one who chased me down and destroyed my body... was just a little boy. Yet he’s nowhere near as naive as I assumed." 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
The Foundation Establishment expert’s will spoke softly. Its tone was thin, ethereal—almost ghostlike.
"He’s... extremely strange. The method he used to probe my storage ring acts like Divine Sense, yet if it truly were Divine Sense, he should have discovered my hidden will. Hmph... Still, that damned brat is far too cautious. From the direction he’s flying... he’s heading back to Green City."
A moment later, a faint illusionary figure in red robes stepped out of the jade slip the Divine Sense clung to. His expression was twisted with doubt and suspicion. After a brief hesitation, he pressed his hand against the Divine Sense. A sharp glint flashed in his eyes.
Instantly, the phantom staggered backward. Its already-faint form turned even thinner, almost transparent. The Divine Sense weakened drastically—just a ripple away from total collapse. Yet amid that collapse, ferocity surged within the man’s eyes. Even in spirit form, blood seeped from the corner of his mouth.
Hatred twisted his expression as he muttered curses. Then, gritting his teeth, he forced his fragile spirit form back into the Divine Sense, merging with it once more.
Right then, miles away, Grey—who sat cross-legged—suddenly opened his eyes. His perception spread outward, covering nearly two thousand five hundred feet. A portion of that perception probed into the storage ring. His mind blurred for a moment as the contents of the ring appeared before him.
His attention locked onto a particular jade slip. The Divine Sense clinging to it looked so fragile that it seemed ready to crumble at the next breeze. Grey sensed it was close to dissipating, but he didn’t interfere. He simply lingered nearby, ready to detect the exact moment it vanished.
However, when the old man’s spirit saw Grey’s actions, he nearly spat blood again.
That brat was too cautious.
This entire setup had been a trap—one last gambit. The instant Grey touched the Divine Sense, his mind would become exposed, leaving a perfect opening for possession. The old man didn’t believe Grey was some cunning schemer, but he at least expected the boy to show some excitement, some impatience, some eagerness to seize the ring.
But Grey waited. And waited. Calm, cold, patient—waiting for the final fragment of Divine Sense to disperse naturally.
That was something the Foundation Establishment expert had never seen before.
Grey’s constant retreats in battle... his absurd endurance... his refusal to act rashly... none of it matched his young appearance.
If the Divine Sense truly dissipated, the expert’s spirit body would perish completely.
He only had one forbidden technique remaining, one final, desperate chance.
If this plan failed, he would have to gamble everything to forcibly possess Grey’s body before his Divine Sense vanished forever.
Grey grew silent as his perception watched the divine sense, but after several hours went by, he found that the divine sense was still lingering. It kept flickering like a dying flame that was about to go out.
After Grey noticed this, a narrow glint appeared in his eyes. He had obviously noticed this strange occurrence. ’So the Foundation Establishment cultivator is still not fully dead... I don’t know what other methods he is planning, but as far as I don’t interfere, i should be safe.’ Grey concluded in his mind.
The Foundation Establishment expert had acted a bit too much. First, the divine sense that acted like it would soon scatter away, yet, here it was now. It would flicker and behave like it would disappear in amy moment, but that has been happening for over several hours now.
Externally, Grey did not reveal anything, but a dangerous glint appeared in his eyes. He was grateful that he remained cautious and vigilant. He had no idea what the Foundation Establishment expert was planning, and whether he would be able to counter it at all. After all, he was in an extremely weakened state. If the Foundation Establishment expert pulled off a stunt that Grey could not react to, he did not want to think about the consequences.
’In the end, this will turn into a battle of attrition. I... will like to see which one of us can hold out the longest.’ Grey mumbled in a low tone. His voice as quiet as a whisper that they drifted through the empty cave like a indiscernible echo.
With each and every growing second, the Foundation Establishment expert’s Spirit body turned even more paler. Hesitation appeared on his face as he bit his lip.
Suddenly, that small flicker of divine sense seemed to have become even more destabilized as it slowly started to crumble, and soon it scattered like the wind.
Inside the Jade slip, the Foundation Establishment expert’s Spirit body coughed out a large mouthful of blood even though it was not a physical being anymore. It’s eyes shining with deep seated hatred and anxiousness.
’Why the fuck is he still vigilant! Doesn’t he know that absorbing divine sense while in the Qi Accumulation realm would make it easier for you to sense how many Spirit Fires you can manifest. It will even help when you try to open your damn spirit perforations. SO WHY DAMMIT IS HE STILL FUCKING VIGILANT!!’ The Foundation Establishment expert Spirit body trembled as it shouted. His eyes were clouded with confusion and anger. Confusion because he did not understand why Grey was cautious. Anger... because he hated Grey who put him in this condition.
But to Grey who was still studying the divine sense left behind by the Foundation Establishment expert, he knew that there was still more to this than meets the eye.
