Chapter 30: 30. Villain

"I’ll make sure you beg for an end, and when the reaper comes calling, when you beg me to end it all, I’ll say no."

As Charlottes words echoed all around, the air itself seemed to warp around her,

As a strange Pressure gripped everything making it feel as if gravity had folded inwards

Birds scattered in panicked bursts.

Insects dropped from the sky.

Small animals collapsed still and fell silent. Even the wind forgot to move.

What bled out of Charlotte wasn’t just rage anymore

It was something Deeper

A storm so of emotion so black and so concentrated, it had nearly become real.

A metaphysical force, born from wrath and murderous intent, and it was aimed entirely at him!

Licht’s instincts screamed at him.

Charlotte’s Hatred that bypassed logic, stabbed straight into his soul.

Right now his mind had reverted to its most primal state and was overwhelmed with one singular emotion:

survive.

Any normal person would’ve fled.

But Licht’s Valtier blood and that damned prideful trait kept him rooted to the spot.

「A Valtier’s Pride (S)」 refused to bend or bow in the face of anything and for once... that curse had actualky saved his life.

See, the truth was that even amongst all that murderous rage, Charlotte hadn’t ever lost control and That’s what made it so terrifying!

She wouldn’t become a berserker lashing out in blind rage. No, she was calm. Calculated. Cold.

Like a predator that had recognized it couldn’t win today so instead would wait patiently and calmly for the perfect moment to strike.

One false move, one singular flicker of weakness was all it would have taken and Charlotte would’ve leapt forward and torn him apart without hesitation.

The only thing holding her back was the one singular thought: she thought she wasn’t strong enough yet

So even as tears streamed down her face , even as fists trembled. She still didn’t strike.

Not yet.

She swallowed that hatred. Buried it deep. And made a vow.

She would live no matter what! No matter how many lives it cost, no matter the pain or trials she had to endure.

She would live... just to kill the man standing in front of her!

Ding!

Licht heard the notification chime in the back of his mind... and, for once... for once he didn’t care.

He didn’t know if it was his twisted new body or something else entirely, but in that moment, watching Charlotte knelt beneath the silver spill of moonlight like a otherworldly fairy, the tears clinging to her lashes like fragile crystals,

It mesmerised him

’She’s beautiful’

Unable to control himself, a few words escaped from Licht’s lips but that was enough.

No more words were neeed to describe how his emotions.

Licht was left breathless for a second

But it was just a moment.

Reality set back in fast.

He wasn’t safe right now. Not even close.

Charlotte only held back because she thought she couldn’t beat Licht in a fair fight.

If she had known his strength had a cooldown...

If she had sensed even a flicker of weakness...

’She would’ve killed me without a second thought.’ thought Licht

Licht realized just how close to death he really was and he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t afraid.

But fear wasn’t the only thing swirling inside him. There was something else.

Relief.

It was a twisted feeling that licht really couldn’t feel proud of.

To stop the world’s collapse from accelerating, he had rushed in and saved Charlotte’s life.

But to do so, Licht had to rip open her deepest wounds.

He had to bring her hatred back to life and not just that

He had to make it stronger, Sharper, more Focused.

He didn’t save Charlotte.

He weaponized her.

And do you know the worst part?

It worked!

He hated that he could do something so cruel... and still find a reason to call it necessary.

Hated that the system, his traits and all of th factors that had silently pushed him into this corner.

And more than that, he hated that now, more than ever, it felt like no one would ever truly understand him in this world.

It was unfair buthat that was the role carved out for him.

The villain. The dragon. The monster the heroine is destined to slay.

And you know what?

So be it.

From the moment Licht nhabited this new body, his primary goal had always been to just survive.

His predesccsro had left him with so much bullshit to deal with that thoughts about heroines were a pure luxury he couldnt afford.

As long as he could get more nlightenment poinys and get stronger, Licht would play whatever role the system wanted.

With that thought in mind, Licht stepped away from Charlotte’s trembling body and turned toward the dark horizon.

He looked back only once—

and spoke.

"Well, if my death is what you wish for... I’ll wish you good luck."

As he said this, Licht forced a smirk.

"Oh—and when you’re ready, come find me. I can teach you your brother’s technique. If you can handle it, that is."

With that, Licht walked off into the night wind,
