Chapter 74: Losing at UNO

Breakfast wrapped with clinking plates and satisfied sighs, the three of us migrating to the sunlit living room—plush sectional couches cradling us amid scattered cushions, morning light gilding the coffee table strewn with empty mugs and berry-stained napkins.

I lounged cross-legged in the centre, oversized t-shirt draping loose over my full curves, green skirt hiked playful on plush thighs, socks peeking cute, Bardot ponytail swaying high and tousled—belt nipping my tiny waist accentuating the olive tan glowing warm from recent outdoor shoots.

"Emily, you made us wait for an hour," said Hellen.

I blushed, "I take time, okay? Bathing is like a ritual, which should be perfect. How much time you take to bath anyway?"

"Ten minutes."

"What?! Reyes?"

"Eleven minutes."

Hellen shot a victorious smirk to Reyes, who snarled at her.

Are they seriously competing over this?

"Emily, you look softer than before," commented Reyes, her gray eyes glinting teasing under her cap brim as she leaned forward elbows-on-knees, frame relaxed but alert. "I’ve seen your previous photos—toned arms, sharper edges. What happened?"

I stilled for a moment, emerald gaze flickering inward—my predecessor’s sculpted alpha physique eroded by my own lazy habits, muscles melted into plush curves from binge-eating and bed-bound hyperactivity, no gym grind despite my petite frame hiding the gluttony. And this happened within a few days, which then accelerated when I was hiding inside this mansion.

That damn OG Emily—eunuch curse stealing my dream omega man! That bitch ruined it all. I huffed pouty, sipping my fizzy cold drink through a striped straw. "I don’t exercise, Reyes. Too busy eating."

"I will help you," Reyes offered smooth, scarred jaw quirking into a wolfish grin, her cedar-steel scent blooming warm promise—visions of dawn-runs, her gloved hands spotting my form through squats and planks flashing vivid in her eyes.

I don’t like this. Exercising is a clear ’no’ for me.

Hellen snarled low from my left, blonde ponytail twitching aggressive, eyes flashing possessively as she draped a claiming arm over the backrest. "I’m perfectly here to help her," she bit out, honey-citrus pheromones spiking territorial, full lips curling disdain.

Do they hate each other? Well, they shouldn’t as they both are my friends.

"But I was in the military," Reyes smirked triumphant, broad shoulders rolling casual, brogues planted dominant.

"You don’t need to care for her," Hellen growled, fist clenching faint on the cushion, ponytail lashing like a whip.

I snapped my fingers sharp, cold drink sloshing fizzy in my grip—emerald eyes narrowing bossy. "Can you not fight, okay? I don’t want to exercise. Besides, I can just hire people. And you two are here." My pout deepened, cheeks flushing rose under their stares.

This made them smile—slow, synchronized softening—Hellen’s smirk melting tender, Reyes’ gaze turning puddle-soft, dual alphas calming down at my unwitting command.

"Okay, stop giving me weird looks," I grumbled, straw slurping louder self-conscious, t-shirt hem riding up to bare a sliver of porcelain midriff, Bardot ponytail bouncing as I shifted—thighs clenching subtle slick-betrayal from their heated attention.

"You’ve become a bit tan," Reyes noted husky, gray eyes tracing the golden glow appreciatively.

"Olive, I say," I corrected with a wink, popping my lips off the straw. "It’s all because of those outside shoots, though it suits me."

Reyes nodded fervent, lips quirking appreciative. "It does."

"You look perfect."

"I am happy that both my friends think that." Their faces turned a bit bad—Hellen’s ice-blue eyes narrowing sharp, blonde ponytail twitching like a lashing tail; Reyes’ scarred jaw tightening, gray gaze clouding stormy under her cap brim.

"What happened?" I asked, Bardot ponytail swaying as I tilted my head, cold drink paused mid-sip, eyes flicking wary between them—thighs clenching instinctive at the sudden alpha tension thickening the air. It’s been since yesterday, my body started giving these weird reactions. Why can’t I control them?! I don’t want them to think that I weird.

"Nothing," Hellen drawled quickly, looking away

"Nothing, Emily," Reyes echoed clipped, brogues shifting restless on the rug.

"I have an idea! Should we play UNO?" I chirped, emerald eyes lighting up as I bounced on the sectional, Bardot ponytail whipping excited—cold drink abandoned on the table.

"UNO?" Hellen echoed, ice-blue gaze blinking surprise from my left, blonde ponytail settling as her arms stilled.

"Yes!" I nodded fervent, already twisting free from their sandwich, green skirt flaring playful over plush thighs as I darted upstairs—sock-clad feet pattering light on oak steps, rummaging quick in the game closet for the battered deck, colourful cards fanned victory-worn from past lazy afternoons.

I bounded back down faster, deck clutched triumphant, but their voices chased worried after me.

"Slow down, Emily. You might fall."

"You might hurt yourself."

I shook my head at the landing, cheeks flushed rosy from the sprint, oversized t-shirt swaying loose. "I’m fine! But let’s play!" I flopped back between them deck-in-hand, thighs brushing theirs accidental as I reclaimed my spot—green skirt settling over socks, Bardot ponytail bouncing final.

UNO was my forte. No one can defeat me, especially these two dominant alphas. I will show these two cool, powerful alphas that I am the best. What if I a eunuch? I am better than them in other things. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Hellen arched a blonde brow, ice-blue eyes glinting competitive as she scooted closer left, snagging the deck from my grip. "UNO it is. No mercy—I always play to crush my opponents completely." Her ponytail swayed as she shuffled crisp, dealing seven each—stack neat in the centre.

Reyes leaned right, gray gaze sharp under her cap, scarred jaw set. "Military rules—no folding, no whining when you draw the pain. Deal it." She scanned her hand tactical, brogues firm.

I grinned, fanning mine—three wilds strong. "Ladies first, or are you both scared I’ll wipe the floor with you?"

"We all are ladies in a way."

"Emily, sometimes your words show that you are really a cat in a human’s body."

"I am not a cat!"

Hellen dropped red 7 with a smirk. "Take that." Reyes matched blue 7 coolly. "Your move, Emily—don’t choke." I skipped Reyes with a blue block card—Hellen reversed green my way. "Traitor move already? You’re going down for that," she teased, eyes dancing.

Cards snapped fast—Round 1, I welded yellow, forcing "Yellow it is—suffer!"; Reyes drew four groaning "Damn draw-fours, you witch!"; Hellen skipped me twice, cackling "Payback’s sweet—your hand’s bloating already!" as my stack hit eleven.

I lost?

Huh?

I really lost?!

"Let’s have another round! This time, I will win," I scowled at them. But both of them just laughed at my words. "Why are you laughing?"

"Well, let’s play another round if you want."

"Fine with me."

Round 2, Reyes +4 bombed Hellen, her stack exploding— "You think this will make me lose!"—ponytail flipping furious. At the end, Reyes won.

"Another round!" I yelled.

Round 3, my reverse trapped Reyes in skips, her growl low "Sneaky, Emily—watch your back"; Hellen called "UNO, losers—victory’s mine!" taunting.

"Another round! This time, I will win!"

Round 4, Hellen won again, cards scattering dramatic— "Told you—no mercy!"

"Let’s play another round!"

"Are you sure, Emily?"

"Yes!"

Round 5, Reyes clutched victory, her smirk wolfish as my hand bloated again: "Military precision wins. Better luck next life."

They shook their heads and laughed loudly—Hellen’s arm brushing my shoulder, Reyes’ knee nudging mine. But tears welled sudden in my eyes, blurring the colours—frustration stinging hot after five straight losses, head drooping as I blinked hard, lower lip wobbling.

"Not fair—you gang up on me every time," I mumbled, deck tumbling forgotten.

"Emily, you are bad at UNO," Reyes said, rubbing my head.

I pushed her away before I stood up, pointing fingers at them. "You cheated! You two just ganged up on me!"

"We didn’t," Hellen smirked, eyes narrowing at Reyes. "There is no way in this world that we will team up."

"Yeah, not with her."

"Then how did I lose?!" I wiped off the tears from my eyes with the back of my hand.

"Like I said, you are bad at UNO."

"I hate you!"
