Chapter 110: 110:Leaving

There was a quiet silence before the bird morphed again. A woman now stood in front of him.

She was absolutely charming, with orange flaming hair and eyes, a beautiful figure, and a face that would cause wars.

She still had her wings, made of fire, flapping behind her as she leaned forward and cupped Lucian’s cheek.

"My name is Athena Firefox, of house Sunfire, of the name of old Sicilis, I am the phoenix god daughter and I swear to you those who would harm you will die screaming."

Lucian smiled then burst into laughter. Gold, he had picked up gold. How did someone so powerful end up among mortals?

"My name is Lucian Bloodmoor, from the Bloodmoor family, Son of Lilith Bloodmoor and I swear to you, I will protect and nurture you as long as I’m alive."

She leaned back a satisfied smile on her face and turned into a bird again. From their bond, she seemed to prefer that form.

"Good. You should know my awakening has already gone unnoticed. I hope you can grow stronger and step out of being mortal."

Lucian nodded, a mysterious smile on his face.

"You mustn’t worry about that, I have a plan for that."

"Good, don’t disappoint me."

She turned back into a small whisp and disappeared into the mark on his hand. Lucian felt her settle by the side of his mana pool.

It didn’t feel uncomfortable, it was like a new warmth had been added to his body.

The world around him started to crack as it crumbled bit by bit.

He smiled, he was sure the others were very worried.

At the back of his mind, he could feel it.

A budding hunger, stronger than normal but he chalked it up to normal thirst.

.....

On the other side, outside the inn where Seraph and the others were staying, a spell formed outside and Duchess Lilith appeared scaring those walking on the sidewalk.

Her coordinates had been determined through Seraph’s blood connections with her and Luna’s letter to her.

She had been completely cut off from Lucian.

She walked into the small inn ignoring any calls and walked directly to the room Seraph was staying at and knocked.

There was a small wait before Seraph’s footsteps came and she pulled the door open.

"Mother! And Cora, I didn’t expect you to come this fast."

She said and stepped back to let her in. Duchess Lilith took a seat on her bed and turned to look at her.

"Tell me how it all went down?"

While she had gotten the letter it was better to hear the events from the direct source since the letter might omit something.

Seraph took a seat beside her and picked the sleeping baby from her mother’s arms and started to narrate the events.

From the time they left home to the time Lucian disappeared.

"What color did you say the egg was ?"

"A reddish orange, it seems to be absorbing the magma underground."

Seraph answered but was confused about her mother’s insistence on such a little detail.

Duchess Lilith fell into deep thoughts. The egg’s color sounded familiar, something she had heard from her mother when her family still lived in the demonic continent.

It had been among the many bedtime stories she had told.

If her guess was correct then her son had gotten the biggest gain of his life, but if she was wrong, she just hoped she was right.

A phoenix, a bird species that is believed to have gone extinct. Her mother said they disappeared in the face of the world after the continental war.

"Can you call Luna for me?"

She asked Seraph who nodded but a knock came to the door at that moment. The duchess smiled.

"She’s fast," she mumbled," Come in!"

Luna pushed open the door and walked into the room. She bowed before her two mistresses and turned her attention back to the duchess.

"Is there anything you would like to add?"

"I can feel that the master is alive, we mustn’t worry too much but prepare for his return."

The duchess nodded. Her gaze went outside. Through the window, she could see the blowing sand and the raging wind. The heat had also started to get uncomfortable.

"Its been four days since you sent the letter, did you visit the ruin?"

"Always everyday but there is no sign of the young master."

"Have you gone today?"

Luna nodded.

"There has been no sign, the ruin remains silent. Adventurers have started to leave the city saying whenever a ruin collapsed it means the treasure has already been taken or ruined."

She said hesitantly. The duchess nodded. She already knew this knowledge.

"We’ll go there tomorrow since you’ve already finished your search. "

The sun outside was sinking into the hirizon casting an orange light onto the sand dunes.

"Yes, duchess."

Luna left to prepare dinner and a new room for the duchess.

.....

"When this finishes breaking, where will I be getting out from?"

I asked worried. I wasn’t even sure where Luna and the others were but getting out would be easier to track them.

While I was inside the world, every spell that would include outside contact had been cut off.

"I’m not sure but it’s the same place I teleported your little friends."

Athena said.

"That is enough for me."

The world fully broke apart at that moment and I felt my body sway before I lost my consciousness for a second.

My body felt as though it was tilting unnaturally then I felt myself land on something hot and cold at the same time.

I looked down in surprise.

"Sand."

I said loudly. I touched the sand to confirm I wasn’t dreaming. There was only one place that had this much sand on the continent.

"Are we in the Barbarians’ kingdom?"

She nodded.

"Yes, I’ve heard those who tried to break into my home call it that."

I stood up from the sand dusting myself before looking around. There was nothing in sight but a big tree that stood out like a sore thumb in the sea of rising and falling sand. Since it was night, as expected there was no one in sight.

I walked towards the tree and extended my detection magic. I wasn’t sure how far the nearest town was but I didn’t want to walk around aimlessly in the biting cold and sand.

There were bound to be monsters in the sand and I wasn’t in the mood to fight.

I wanted to see my girls as soon as possible and let them know I was okay.

I was sure they were panicking and worried, especially Seraph and Jeneviv, they were the most emotional of the bunch.

My senses swept across the over-arching desert until I detected a town a distance away but there was also something else or someone on my radar.

"Come out!"

I shouted my gaze fixating on a small mound of sand a few steps away from me.

At first i had thought I was a sand worm or just any beast but my senses were able to detect that it was human.

"If you don’t come out, then stay there forever."

I activated a fire spell ready to kill the ant when small brown hands shot out from the mold.

"Wait.. wait... I’m coming out."

I was more than familiar with the voice.

How had she even found me, was this a coincidence or did she know where I was?

"Come out then you little thief."

The girl stepped out from behind the small mould as she tried to dust herself from all the sand that was stuck on her body.

I had never believed I would meet her here after she stole from me in Sin City.

My spell was still running though I hadn’t fired.

"What are you doing here Amna?"

"Ooh... You remembered my name, how wonderful young lord."

She said cheerfully and walked towards me fearlessly despite the spell crackling by my side.

"Where is my gold?"

I didn’t answer her previous question. There was no need to.

Amna chuckled and swayed with the wind as she came to a stop in front of me. She leaned in until she was only a breath away from my face and blew her breath at me then leaned back.

"I used it to buy my wedding dress, you accepted my marriage proposal."

I was shocked. When did that ever happen? The girl came complimented me and stole from me, where was the proposal.

’She is delusional.’

"You’re delusional, I don’t remember accepting any marriage proposal, and to put that aside, why are you here?"

"You accepted it right now, when you called my name with such intimacy."

Her long curly hair shimmered in the dark as she spoke. I frowned at her words.

"Why are you here?"

She was clearly avoiding my question.

"I overheard it from one of your concubines in the ruined city. It’s such a good coincidence a found them during my travels."

She said wistfully but what caught my attention was the concubine part.

’So Luna and the others are in the ruined city?’

"Then why are you here at night?"

"I was waiting for your arrival. One of your concubines always stays here the whole day so I decided to do the night duties. You will marry me now right?"

She asked and moved closer to me until she was almost pressed against me. I pushed her back softly and started to walk towards the town.

"I’ll think about it."

"Its a promise then. I’ll take you to where they are."

She caught up to me and started to walk beside me as she sang softly in the Barbarian language.

She had a beautiful voice.
