Chapter 100: 100:Crossing.

The griffins shrieked in response to his shout as if responding to a battle cry. I could see it from their gaze, we were prey.

"What in the world is this doing here? They’re so far away from home "

Donovan shouted again. It wasn’t really that big of a surprise that they would also be summoned to the hoard. They were still beasts after all.

Whoever thought a mixture of a lion and an eagle would make the perfect predator really had no originality in the realm of creation.

Griffins were mainly found in the elven forest, which was located on the outskirts of the Fern Kingdom, a long way from home.

"Everyone get ready they’re coming down!"

The Griffins swooped down, their massive wings folded behind them and their long beaks opened as screeching sounds shot out.

’Shield’

The Griffins came to a half mid-flight the moment I erected the shield, as expected. Their huge wings flapped, sending gusts of wind towards the valley walls that broke most of the soil and rocks loose from the walls.

"They aren’t intelligent for nothing. "

’Fire’

Rapid fireballs shot towards the airborne beasts causing them to scatter as they sent gusts of wind towards the approaching flames as they tried to redirect the balls.

In their distraction, Luna jumped towards them her sword drawn, and slashed horizontally cutting through the flames.

A blue arced blade aura was spared from the sword and headed for the griffins.

Her sword beheaded two of the griffins that were too distracted to notice her sudden approach.

The remaining eight screamed again and shot towards her, their sharp claws aimed to tear through her.

Spell circles appeared below Luna’s feet as she danced in the air, expertly avoiding their attacks while also hitting them back.

"Luna, it’s breath!"

Seraph shouted and also joined luna to the fight, a careless smile on her face.

I knew that was an excuse for her to join Luna.

I watched as they slashed and dodged incoming fire breath from the griffins.

"Okay you guys, stop playing and let’s go."

The beasts below were increasing in number. The valley was so packed it looked like a group of different colored ants.

A disgusting sight of bodies pressed together in close proximity.

Some of the more clever beasts had noticed the fight above and had stopped their advances as they waited for the falling corpses.

They would scramble to every Griffin corpse that fell and feed on it. An apex predator mana-filled flesh was too hard to ignore.

Seraph sliced off the last screaming griffin’s head its blood coloring the dress she was wearing. She looked like a war-torn goddess.

She smiled down at me before turning to look around clearly waiting for the next batch.

"Come down."

Lina didn’t need to be told twice, but Seraph continued to Lavitate as she moved around.

The blood on her sword slowly melted into it as it got absorbed by the sword itself.

That was her inheritance. Unlike me who got a blood skill she got a blood sword, which absorbed the blood of the prey she killed and converted some of it into her strength.

"Seraph!"

I called coldly and released the shield. Seraph chuckled then came down hesitantly, her disappointment clearly evident. She walked towards me with a cheerful smile on her face.

"Did I do well?"

I nodded.

"Yes, you were perfect."

’Clean’

All the blood and flesh on her clothes disappeared after I used the cleaning spell. I turned to Luna to find her fully presentable.

She unlike Seraph had kept herself clean and not even a drop of blood got to her.

"We should head down, I’m sure the last shout was a summon."

Lina nodded. I turned to the barbarians who had moved to the valley walls for self-protection. The fear in their eyes had subsided and they had returned to the group.

Only Baros and a few others had stayed with their sword drawn ready to fight.

"Young master, we lost two horses. "

Baros said, the guilt in his eyes was visible. I nodded, that wasn’t a big problem.

"We’ll just have to use the remaining ones, let’s go."

We continued down the valley but everyone was tense and more vigilant than the first time. Things were getting more and more real and we were all waiting for the next attack.

My gaze went to the cloudy sky, a perfect camouflage. I could see more and more flying beasts but most of them were too focused on their goal.

But I couldn’t let my guard down. The last Griffin shout had sent somewhat of a signal and I know more would be coming.

"Look we’re almost at the bottom."

Kianah said. She had been at the lead as she eagerly picked different plants from the valley walls or just the edge of the pathway.

"Lets stop."

Everyone came to a stop and turned to look at me for the next instructions. The others opened a pathway as I walked forward to the front and came to a stop beside Kianah.

"Can you give me a sword?"

I extended my arm to luna who had followed behind me. She placed her heavy sword in my palm and stepped back.

I swung it softly getting my arm used to the weight before turning my attention back to the beasts below.

"I’ll take the lead in creating a path through the hoard, I don’t want anyone to be left behind but I will not turn back for those who are slow."

I said coldly. My gaze passed through everyone as they all nodded.

The beasts in the valley had increased to thousands and some of the high-ranking beasts had already joined the frenzy.

It had only taken us almost two sandglasses to get to the bottom with all the distractions. That had been enough time for the beasts to increase in number.

While this was just a small part of the hoard that seemed to have broken off, the number still went over tens of thousands since the valley wasn’t small width-wise.

Normally to cross the bridge on a carriage it would take, half a sand glass , that was how big it was.

I didn’t want to burden Luna or any of the other girls with the clearing when I could do it myself and much faster.

"What about the horses, they seem too scared to enter the hoard."

Balos said while glancing nervously down the valley.

"If they cannot, leave them, we can find some other means of transport. "

The Dukes’ horses were specially trained for war against anything and I knew they wouldn’t face a problem while crossing but the barbarians i wasn’t sure.

I was honestly disappointed when he said that, since I associated their kingdom with strength. Their animals should also be strong both mentally and physically.

"Don’t worry young master, we’ll make them pass through. "

Boras said nervously and went back to his group. I turned my attention back to the hoard.

"There are five Class III and two Class II monsters that have fully entered the valley and integrated with the hoard. You have to be careful of a sneak attack from them. The other lower-class monster will not pose a problem for any of you."

I said and pointed at two large Class III snakes slithering through the crowd of equally humongous but weak monsters.

The Griffins we had fought also fell into Class III monster categories. Intelligent and a bit cunningness but that was it.

They still maintained their bestial nature.

"What about the Class II?"

Seraph asked her gaze moving down the valley where they were coming from.

A fully grown black cyclops and a blue ogre had just entered the valley. Their muscles bulged with each move and most of the lesser beasts scrambled out of their way.

Each of their steps crushed the lesser beasts beneath their feet as they moved forward.

"I’ll deal with them if they get near but they seemed to be focused on eating rather than walking forward. "

I said directing their attention to the two monsters’ hands that held different crushed beasts.

They would occasionally pick some from the running crowd and eat while walking.

A disgusting sight to see.

I lifted the sword and slashed it down my mana flowing like threads into the sword and condensing at the tip.

The condescended mana threads shot from the sword as a vertical arc and passed through the unsuspecting crowd of beasts, cutting through the hoard until the opposite side of the valley.

It left a deep gush on the wall but luckily, I didn’t damage the ascending road.

Shrieks and roars of confusion filled the crowd as I sent arcs over arcs of condensed man until they were too scared to step onto the road of blood I had created.

I turned to my companions

"Let’s go, this won’t last king."

I jumped down the small height to the ground and plunged myself into the blood-stained path.
