Chapter 75: 71 Liping’s Suspicion

71 Li Liping’s Suspicion

Li Liping found it strange. The atmosphere between the two of them was excessively harmonious, unnaturally so. It gave off a feeling that the presence of anyone else was simply superfluous. Such a peculiar vibe was something she had only ever sensed between brand-new couples.

A suspicion began to form in her heart. The two of them had hidden it very well; if she hadn’t been keenly aware of their strange relationship, she might not have noticed at all.

Despite this internal realization, Li Liping showed no hint of it on her face.

"Sister Qian, you’re finally back."

"How are you feeling?"

As Li Liping spoke, she pulled Xu Qian over to inspect her from left to right, then smiled. "Does it still hurt? You look fine on the outside, but how is it really?"

Xu Qian patted Li Liping’s hand, her eyes subconsciously glancing toward Wang Jian. If anything had truly changed over the past two days, it was her relationship with him. "Don’t worry, the doctor took care of it. As long as I don’t do any heavy lifting or strenuous activities, I’ll be fine."

Li Liping and Ren Yu looked toward the spot she indicated, just below her chest.

Ren Yu knew this incident was because of Wang Xiang. She had been conflicted about it, but now, seeing Xu Qian’s injury, a wave of fear washed over her. "If he had used any more force, a rib could have punctured a blood vessel. That would have been dangerous."

Wang Jian nodded. "Exactly. It’s a good thing I got back when I did and handled it promptly. Otherwise, the outcome would have been uncertain."

"So, where is Brother Xiang now?"

Wang Jian explained, "My brother is still in the hospital. He’s being treated by a specialist in psychological illnesses, so he probably won’t be back for a while."

"A psychological illness?" Li Liping was taken aback. "You mean he’s crazy? No wonder I felt something was off with him. He was acting like a lunatic."

"It’s not like that," Wang Jian said, shaking his head. "A psychological illness is a type of mental health condition. It’s different from a neurological disease. People often confuse the two."

"Is that so?" Li Liping frowned, still not quite grasping the difference, but she didn’t press the issue.

"Didn’t the police arrest him?" Ren Yu suddenly asked.

Wang Jian gave her a surprised look. "The doctor issued a certificate, so for now, he’s allowed to remain in the hospital for treatment."

"Did the doctor say if he can be cured?"

"That’s... really hard to say."

A somber mood fell over them. Even Wang Jian was drawn into the women’s melancholy, and he remained silent for a long moment.

After Ren Yu led Xu Qian into the living room, Li Liping dragged Wang Jian into the kitchen, ostensibly to help her. Being alone with Li Liping, Wang Jian felt a shift in his own mood as the earlier dreariness was swept away.

Li Liping was dressed innocently today in a white crop-top T-shirt and a simple short skirt, an outfit that radiated an aura of purity. Standing next to Ren Yu earlier, she hadn’t lost an ounce of her youthful charm.

Once in the kitchen, she began tidying up the utensils, completely unconcerned about whether her short skirt was revealing anything as she moved.

"Are you sure you brought me in here to help?" Wang Jian asked. He looked around the kitchen and saw that four or five dishes, both meat and vegetable, were already prepared and warm. He could smell the aroma of pork rib soup, and the pressure cooker was still steaming. Everything was clearly ready, so there was nothing left for him to help with.

"What’s wrong?" Li Liping shot him a look, pausing her work. She took a few steps closer and smiled. "If I didn’t ask you to ’help,’ how else would I get a chance to be alone with you? Are you really that into your sister-in-law?"

...

The question made Wang Jian narrow his eyes. As she asked, her expression made it clear she already knew something. When Wang Jian didn’t answer, Li Liping’s smile only widened. He recalled how the two women had stayed up talking late the night before last; it was entirely possible they had discussed everything.

Realizing she likely knew the truth, Wang Jian felt a strange sense of fearlessness. "So you know?" he asked directly. "What exactly do you know?"

"Hehehe." Li Liping just giggled without answering. She stepped forward until she was right in front of him, her body almost pressing against his. She was only tall enough to reach his chin, so she had to tilt her head all the way up to meet his gaze.

"I know everything, but..." Li Liping reached out a finger and gently traced his lips. "Don’t be nervous," she purred with a smile. "I’m just teasing you. I’m not going to run around telling everyone. Sister Qian and I talked for a long time the other night, so I know what I need to know. As for your little crush, I saw through that a long time ago. I just can’t figure out what’s so great about you that has Sister Qian so smitten."

Wang Jian grabbed her mischievous hand. It was soft, almost boneless in his grasp, and her skin was incredibly smooth, far more delicate than his own.

It was always Li Liping who initiated the teasing, but this time, Wang Jian suddenly felt a playful impulse. He smirked, "Don’t you know how good I am?"

"You’re awful!" Li Liping immediately burst into a fit of coquettish laughter, scolding him playfully. She rolled her eyes at him, and the flirtatious glance sent a jolt through him, as if he’d been struck by lightning.

She patted his chest, still laughing as she chided, "You’re talking nonsense. I don’t know anything." After patting his chest, however, her hand didn’t stop. It traveled down and boldly grabbed him somewhere very specific.

...

Yeah, right.

Wang Jian’s eyes widened. He shot a nervous glance toward the courtyard, and seeing that no one was coming, he turned back to her. "Is that so? Looks like someone’s quite practiced at this, huh?"

"Oh? You actually reacted." Li Liping looked up in genuine surprise. Her eyes flickered up and down his body before she asked curiously, "Aren’t you supposed to be out of energy by now?"

"What do you mean, ’supposed to be’? I’m not crippled."

Now it was Wang Jian’s turn to be baffled. What on earth did she mean by that?

A blush crept up Li Liping’s face, and she lowered her voice. "That’s not what I meant. I thought you and your sister-in-law had already... done it. So I figured you wouldn’t have a reaction right now.

"The first moment I saw you and Sister Qian today, I felt that something had changed between you.

"You two were gone all night. It’s only logical that something must have happened.

"Then I noticed the whole vibe between you two was different. It reminded me of how Zhang Li and I were after the first time we were intimate—like you were the only two people in the world, the closest to one another.

"I just had this suspicion, so I wanted to test you. I just... I didn’t expect this."

Listening to her, Wang Jian was at a loss for words. He felt that calling Li Liping a succubus might even be an understatement. Her particular brand of charm was inimitable, and no man could possibly resist it.

"Aren’t you afraid of what might happen if we get caught?" he asked, his voice strained.

Though he said that, her hand was far from still.

It began to move as she whispered, "So, compared to your sister-in-law, who do you like more? Me or her?"

Wang Jian sucked in a sharp breath. Is this a question all women love to ask? The stimulation was so intense that he couldn’t answer—or perhaps, he simply didn’t want to.

Seeing the triumphant look on Li Liping’s face, as if she held all the cards, a surge of anger flared up inside him. He grabbed her and spun her around sharply. "You little vixen," he snarled. "That’ll teach you to keep teasing me."
