Chapter 55: 54 Xu Qian and Li Liping

"What’s wrong?"

When Wang Jian didn’t respond, Wang Xiang asked again.

"It’s nothing... I just spaced out." Wang Jian hadn’t been spacing out at all; he was busy thinking about what would happen to Xu Qian now that Wang Xiang was returning.

Wang Xiang was Wang Jian’s older brother, the family’s eldest son, and five years his senior.

The brothers hadn’t seen each other in eight years. In Wang Jian’s memory, Wang Xiang was a cheerful person who smiled a lot. That was his most profound impression of his brother, and perhaps because of it, they didn’t have much to talk about.

"What’s the train number?" Wang Jian asked. "I’ll make time."

"K323... It should arrive around 4:30 in the afternoon. It’ll take me a while to get out of the station, so just show up around then," Wang Xiang’s voice came through the phone. "Don’t tell your sister-in-law I’m coming back."

"Okay," Wang Jian agreed, then asked naturally, "Why?"

"Well..." Wang Xiang paused. He was still on the train, and Wang Jian could hear the commotion in the background. After a moment of silence, Wang Xiang finally said, "You’re not married. You wouldn’t understand."

"Alright, then. See you this afternoon."

Wang Jian hung up the phone and sat there stunned. Wang Xiang’s reaction had sparked a new possibility in his mind. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮

Could my sister-in-law have already told my brother she wants a divorce?

The thought seemed highly probable.

The clinic was empty today, so Wang Jian went home for lunch. The call from his brother had left him feeling out of sorts, but he never imagined that when he got home, Li Liping and Xu Qian would still be in bed.

Sleeping from last night until now? That was highly suspect. What could those two have been doing to make them sleep this late?

Wang Jian raised an eyebrow, sensing he was on the verge of uncovering some truth. He had felt something was off about the two women after dinner last night.

As he approached the door to knock, he heard sounds from inside.

Xu Qian and Li Liping were clearly awake, so why weren’t they getting up?

Wang Jian’s hand froze, his fist poised to knock. Just then, Xu Qian’s voice drifted through the door. "Liping... you’re so big and... so soft right here."

Her voice was lazy, not yet fully awake, but her words were crystal clear. The two were rolling around in bed, and her comment instantly painted a picture in Wang Jian’s mind: Xu Qian and Li Liping lying on their sides, Xu Qian spooning Li Liping from behind, her hands cupping and kneading her breasts...

Wang Jian had seen Li Liping’s figure before, so his imagination painted a vivid picture.

"Stop touching them! Don’t you have your own?"

"I do, but touching yours is so much better. Now, hold still."

"Seriously... don’t pinch there... ah... don’t..."

Li Liping’s voice trembled, and a flurry of movement rustled the sheets.

Wang Jian swallowed hard, desperate to know what spot Xu Qian had pinched to provoke such a reaction.

"You’re done for, Xu Qian."

Having been pinched in a sensitive spot and made a fool of, Li Liping used all her strength to flip over and pin Xu Qian down, sitting right on top of her. "You want to play, huh? I think you’re just desperate for a man."

With that, Li Liping grabbed Xu Qian’s chest, eliciting a shriek. "Ah! I give up! Stop playing! It’s time to get up..."

"Too late to surrender now!"

Li Liping yanked open the top of Xu Qian’s pajamas, buried her face against her chest, and bit down.

"AH!"

Xu Qian’s shriek was cut short, her voice quickly dying down.

Listening outside, Wang Jian’s mouth went dry. The sounds were all too familiar; he’d seen it countless times in movies, and he’d done the same thing to his ex-girlfriend. The sounds alone were enough to create a vivid scene in his mind.

The noises from the two women faded, but Wang Jian thought he could hear panting. He unconsciously reached down to adjust himself; the pressure was getting uncomfortable, and he felt much better after shifting things into place.

Then, Li Liping spoke again. "You’re so wet."

Wang Jian’s eyes widened, and he pressed his ear flat against the door.

"You are too..."

"Tsk, I was talking about your drool."

"Yeah, so was I."

Wang Jian shifted uncomfortably. These two were unbelievable. Feeling a pang of guilt, he didn’t dare disturb them and quietly tiptoed away.

However, the two women inside noticed the shadow at the door shift and realized something.

"Wait." Xu Qian grabbed Li Liping’s wandering hand. "I think Xiao Jian was just at the door..."

"What time is it?" Hearing this, Li Liping settled down and fumbled for her phone. "Crap, it’s almost one o’clock. He must be starving. We slept till noon, so no one was around to cook for him."

Hearing that Wang Jian might be hungry made Xu Qian nervous, but she forced herself to say, "Don’t be ridiculous. He’s a grown man. How could he be starving?"

"You’re obviously nervous, so why are you still acting mad?" Li Liping teased. "We talked for so long last night. How can you still be hung up on this?"

"Last night was last night," Xu Qian said, rolling her eyes. "I haven’t forgiven you for what you did with him. I haven’t forgiven anyone. Now get out, get off my bed."

Her words were harsh, but Li Liping saw no real anger in them. Still, it was getting late, so she humored Xu Qian, got out of bed, and began searching for her clothes, completely naked.

Xu Qian clicked her tongue, scorning Li Liping’s habit of sleeping in the nude. She glanced down at her own pajamas, noticing the drool stain on her chest. Shaking her head, she quickly stripped them off and changed into regular clothes.

As Li Liping slipped on her dress, she suddenly asked, "If Wang Xiang comes back, are you really going to divorce him?"

Xu Qian froze for a second before resuming her dressing. "Of course. Wouldn’t you, if you were me? Besides, I already told him. He might be on his way back right now."

"You didn’t mention that yesterday." Li Liping was genuinely surprised. She adjusted her breasts as she put on her bra. "You’re moving awfully fast."

Xu Qian retorted, "When a clean break is needed, hesitation only brings disaster. Weren’t those your own words yesterday?"

"That’s true," Li Liping said with a bitter smile, "but it’ll only be easy if Wang Xiang agrees. If he doesn’t, you’re in for a lot of trouble."

"That..." Xu Qian stopped what she was doing and turned to Li Liping. "Compared to how things were before, this is nothing."

"Are you going to tell Wang Xiang about you and Wang Jian?" Li Liping suddenly asked. "If that gets out, it could be really hard on Wang Jian."

Xu Qian nodded. "I know. That’s why I won’t say a word. After what I told you last night, no fourth person will ever know."

"You’ve made up your mind?" Li Liping wasn’t surprised by the implications of Xu Qian’s words, knowing she had come to a decision. "I support you."

Xu Qian shot her a look. "You’re the lucky one. Xiao Jian is a good man."

"No, no, no," Li Liping said, waving her hands dismissively. "How could I be the lucky one? I’m not single."

"Pah," Xu Qian scoffed. "And that stops you?"

Li Liping blushed and said nothing, her silence speaking volumes.

When the two of them were finally dressed and went outside, they found a note on the dining table.

It was from Wang Jian, informing them that Wang Xiang was returning. Wang Xiang had explicitly told him not to tell Xu Qian, but Wang Jian had done it anyway.

Seeing the note, Xu Qian felt no emotional fluctuation, only a touch of self-mockery. "Of course he’s coming back. The divorce must be important to him, or he wouldn’t be rushing back today."

"Just wait," Li Liping said, patting Xu Qian’s shoulder. Everything that needed to be said had been said last night. Now, they could only look at each other in silence.

Wang Jian had already left and found a car.

Not many people in the village owned cars, but the village chief’s family did. Li Dayu was one of the first in the village to buy a car, and it wasn’t a cheap one either—a Cadillac SUV, which was a rare sight. Sitting inside, Wang Jian couldn’t help but appreciate the perks of money. A luxury car’s interior was on a whole different level. Normally, he would have chatted with the driver about the vehicle, but today, the driver was Li Shuang.

Li Dayu was out, and Wang Jian was in a hurry to pick someone up, so despite the awkwardness, he’d had no choice but to ask Li Shuang for help. He had expected Li Shuang to refuse, given their falling out over the clinic, but she had agreed without a second thought. This led to the current situation: the two of them in the car, shrouded in a heavy silence.

How awkward was the atmosphere? Imagine this: your friend is infatuated with a woman, but he fails to win her over. You not only succeed where he failed, but you also sleep with her—and he happens to walk in on you. Then, the two of you have to sit in the same car.

The details were different, but the effect was identical.
