Village Doctor's Women-Chapter 14 Be good, Wang Jian is going to become a dragon huh
"Old Mr. Cai, let me see you out."
"Well, I’d hate to impose, but it’s perfect timing, actually. I want to introduce you to someone. Come on, let’s go."
Cai Xing was more excited than Wang Jian and started pulling him outside. The village wasn’t large, and Cai Xing had already learned the location of the entrance the day before.
As Wang Jian accompanied Cai Xing toward the village entrance, he noticed that all the villagers were staring in that direction. He hadn’t walked far when he saw the scene at the entrance for himself.
Only outsiders could command such a presence in the village.
As they drew closer, the formally dressed man standing beside the car hurried over, his stern expression replaced by one of urgency.
"Dad! Are you all right? If you hadn’t called yesterday, I would have called the police."
Cai Wenji was Cai Xing’s son. He bore his father’s features—a square face with thick eyebrows and large eyes—and wore his hair slicked back. Impeccably groomed, he exuded the aura of a powerful tycoon, a stark contrast to Cai Xing. When Wang Jian first saw the older man, he hadn’t thought of him as a major boss at all; he didn’t have a hint of a businessman about him.
The reason Wang Jian had found Cai Xing so extraordinary was because of the man’s unusual attire and his willingness to venture into the mountains alone to gather herbs. A man with such presence and a hands-on approach naturally gave off a different vibe.
"You must be Doctor Wang?"
When Cai Wenji turned to look at Wang Jian, his eyes clearly showed surprise. Although he knew of Wang Jian, he hadn’t expected him to be so young.
"Hello, it’s a pleasure to meet you."
"Hello." 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
As they shook hands, Cai Wenji couldn’t help but feel skeptical.
"All right, it’s good that you’ve met. You’ll probably be seeing each other from time to time. It would be best if you could become friends," Cai Xing said with a smile, but his eyes were fixed on his son. From his understanding of his father, Cai Wenji knew this was a subtle admonishment.
This was a highly unusual situation. What kind of employee becomes friends with their boss? This Wang Jian looked to be in his twenties, at most a graduate from a medical university for two or three years. Frankly, Cai Wenji didn’t think Wang Jian could reach that level.
Most importantly, this Wang Jian was a practitioner of Chinese medicine.
Cai Wenji fundamentally looked down on Chinese medicine. The practitioners within their own medical system weren’t very impressive, and it was common knowledge that the younger a practitioner of Chinese medicine was, the less skilled they were likely to be.
It’s highly likely this Wang Jian just happened to run into Dad in the mountains and managed to charm him. If his father wanted to help a young man out, how could I refuse?
It was just a contract for five hundred thousand, after all. Even if they’d encountered a swindler, it wasn’t a big deal. It was a small sum, and keeping the old man happy was what mattered most.
Though skeptical, Cai Wenji let none of it show. He produced a business card from his pocket and presented it to Wang Jian with both hands. "Doctor Wang, here is my card. My phone number is also my WeChat ID, so let’s keep in touch," he said with a laugh.
"You’re too kind, Mr. Cai. If you ever have any difficult or unusual cases, feel free to find me. Chinese medicine can be very persuasive in these matters."
Cai Xing watched them exchange pleasantries from the side, seeing no need to interject. He knew exactly what was going through Cai Wenji’s mind but didn’t say a word, confident that once his son witnessed Wang Jian’s abilities, he would be thoroughly convinced.
Clearing his throat, Cai Xing waved a hand. "All right, that’s enough with the courtesies. You’re both young men; you can chat online whenever you want. Let’s look at the contract first."
Wang Jian glanced at Cai Wenji, who was more than ten years his senior. So we’re both young men, huh? Old Mr. Cai’s words just made me an equal to Mr. Cai.
Cai Xing asked, "Did you bring the contract?"
Cai Wenji smiled. "You instructed me to, Dad. Of course I brought it. It’s in the car."
"Good!" Cai Xing laughed, turning to Wang Jian with far more enthusiasm than he’d shown his son. "Come on, Xiao Wang. Let’s get this contract signed. We can add all those conditions you mentioned."
Seeing his father’s attitude, Cai Wenji, who was already feeling a bit resentful, froze. "Conditions? What conditions?"
Cai Xing then remembered he had discussed this with Wang Jian on the spur of the moment that morning and hadn’t told his son. "It’s nothing," he explained casually. "Just a clause stating that Wang Jian can’t be forced to do anything, and he’s free to terminate the contract at any time."
Cai Wenji almost thought he was hallucinating, but his father’s serious gaze told him it was real. He escorted the two into the backseat of the Mercedes, then stood outside himself, looking like a valet. His gaze, however, remained fixed on the interior of the car. He was scrutinizing this ’Doctor Wang,’ trying to see if Wang Jian bore any resemblance to his father.
Dad is being so good to him. Could he be his illegitimate son?
Cai Wenji couldn’t help but wonder. Adding this clause was like inviting a lord into the family, not hiring an external doctor. No wonder his father had told them to become friends.
Of course, Wang Jian bore no resemblance to the old man, and Cai Wenji heaved a sigh of relief at not suddenly gaining a brother. But then a new question arose.
What is this man’s relationship to my father? It can’t be just a simple encounter in the mountains; things wouldn’t have progressed this far. Besides blood relations, the only other likely connection to a doctor is a patient-doctor relationship. But Dad gets a checkup every six months, and any potential issues would have been found in advance. So that can be ruled out too.
Having eliminated the possibility of an illegitimate child, Cai Wenji was once again lost in thought. The Cai family’s driver saw his boss’s perplexed expression and was puzzled himself. Who would believe that the famously stern and unsmiling Mr. Cai could now wear so many different faces?
While Wang Jian was signing the contract with the Cai family, the village committee office, not far from the entrance, was also lively. Village Chief Li Dayu remembered his noon appointment with Wang Jian and ambled over. From a distance, he spotted the Mercedes’s license plate and the man standing beside it.
He stopped at the entrance to the village committee, a puzzled look on his face.
Soon after, Zhang Quan also arrived. One after the other, they both ended up standing at the doorway, staring at the car.
"Lao Zhang, am I seeing things? Isn’t that Mr. Cai from the Cai Corporation? He looks like the man I’ve seen on TV," Li Dayu asked tentatively. Seeing Zhang Quan still dazed, he patted him. "Hey, don’t just stand there gawking. Do you know him?"
"Don’t joke, Village Chief. How would I know the general manager of the Cai Corporation? The most I might know is a store manager. But you’re right, that person should be Mr. Cai, Cai Wenji. I’ve seen him in the store before. We’ve never spoken, but I recognize him."
"Jeez, what would a big shot like Mr. Cai be doing in our village?"
"You’re asking me? Who am I supposed to ask?"
"So, should we go over and ask? Or at least say hello?"
"Ha! Village Chief, if you’re scared, just say so. Why do we need to go *together* just to say hello?"
"Bah! What nonsense."
Li Dayu was a little annoyed; Lao Zhang had no tact whatsoever. But just then, his eyes widened and his jaw dropped. The cigarette in his mouth fell onto his stomach, and he yelped as it burned him, though he didn’t forget to motion for Zhang Quan to look toward the car.
"Damn it, that burns! Lao Zhang, look quick! Is that Wang Jian?"
Zhang Quan followed his gaze and froze, blurting out, "Holy crap, it really is..."
The two watched as Wang Jian and an elderly man emerged from the car, chatting and laughing intimately while Cai Wenji could only stand waiting outside. It was like witnessing a monumental scene, and they both gasped in unison.
"Good grief!"
"Wang Jian’s become a dragon!"
Their astonishment didn’t last long, as Cai Xing and Cai Wenji soon left in the car. Wang Jian stood watching them go for a moment before turning to head for the village committee.
