Chapter 135: 130 prescriptions

Li Liping was about to sit down when she suddenly remembered something and changed her posture.

This posture made Wang Jian stare in confusion. "What are you doing?"

It must be because of Zhang Quan and Zhang Li.

"Ahem! You really don’t have to do this." Wang Jian sighed, suddenly feeling that the woman before him was deeply pitiable. He moved to embrace her, but Li Liping refused. "You don’t need to do that either."

Li Liping said with a half-smile, "Don’t forget, our relationship is just an arrangement to ’borrow’ a child."

After she spoke, they both fell silent for a while. Then, Li Liping spoke again. "Zhang Li is coming back soon."

Hearing that Zhang Li was returning, Wang Jian’s attention sharpened, and he mentally calculated how long Zhang and his son had been gone. So many things had happened during that time; it had indeed been almost a month. By that count, he’d been back in his hometown for over a month himself. Time really flies.

Under the moonlight, Wang Jian asked softly, "So, you’re unhappy because of this?"

Li Liping shook her head, her brow furrowed slightly, but she didn’t answer his question directly. "They’re on the train back right now. They’ll probably... arrive in the morning. I heard they made a lot of money this time. When he called me, he was ecstatic.

"If they weren’t homesick, they might have stayed out there even longer. The big city is really different. Hearing them talk about it makes me want to see the world too. I heard there are three tall buildings in that city: one that looks like a syringe, one like an egg beater, and one like a bottle opener."

Li Liping went on and on, a constant smile on her face, but every story began with "I heard."

Wang Jian couldn’t help but ask, "Weren’t you a migrant worker before?"

He meant that since Li Liping had been to a big city, why would she still feel this way?

Li Liping covered her mouth and chuckled. "I was in a workshop back then, busy from morning till night for twelve hours a day. I had no time to go out and have fun. Forget big cities; even if I were in the Capital City—the nation’s capital—or even abroad, it probably wouldn’t have been much different from being stuck in this village.

"Even when I occasionally got a day off, I couldn’t go far. Our workshop was extremely remote. It was a six-hour round trip to the city center, and we usually only got half a day off, so I wouldn’t go out unless it was necessary.

"I was pretty naive back then. I thought just working every day was fine, and I didn’t know many people... otherwise, I wouldn’t have been reeled in by that bastard Zhang Li."

As she said the last sentence, Li Liping laughed out loud. But that laugh didn’t sound like a real laugh at all; it was more like self-mockery.

Wang Jian knew Li Liping didn’t regret marrying Zhang Li. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have followed him all the way back here, especially into these vast mountains. A few years ago, there was truly nothing in these mountains. It was a completely different world from now, with convenient transportation and everything available. If it weren’t for that incident—when Zhang Li actively pushed her onto other men—she wouldn’t have become so twisted.

As Wang Jian was thinking, he suddenly heard Li Liping exclaim, "And there’s something else..."

"What?" Wang Jian asked, startled.

Li Liping said, "Lao Zhang told me he met a doctor who gave him a prescription."

Met a doctor? And got a prescription? Wang Jian looked over. Seeing the bewildered expression on Li Liping’s face, he asked, "For... down there?"

Her expression told Wang Jian he had guessed right. However, he immediately frowned. He had seen the extent of Zhang Li’s condition, and the idea that it could be cured with a simple prescription was absolutely impossible. He was skeptical.

Seeing his expression, Li Liping must have guessed his doubts. She quickly added, "Lao Zhang said he tried it in Demon City and it really works. It was effective the entire time."

Tried it? And it was effective the entire time? Wang Jian froze. He thought he finally understood why Li Liping was so unhappy. If Zhang Li was in Demon City and got the medicine, how would he test it? And with whom? And for the entire damn time, at that. The implication was obvious.

Wang Jian felt that he’d truly missed a lot during his years away from home; he no longer knew the people in his own village. He never would have imagined that Zhang Li could be so brazen.

For Zhang Li to tell Li Liping directly about testing the medicine meant he was completely shameless. He probably said other things, too. Otherwise, Li Liping wouldn’t have sought him out in the middle of the night. Is she seeking revenge or just venting?

I’m just a tool, so I don’t need to overthink it.

He was starting to understand Li Liping much better now. Her heart belonged to Zhang Li. She became this way because of Zhang Li’s decisions, and she was here with him tonight because of Zhang Li. It had nothing to do with Wang Jian himself—not because he was well-endowed, not because his skills were good, and certainly not because he was handsome or impressive. It was simply because this woman’s feelings for Zhang Li ran deep.

So... women really are a miraculous creature. They say women care about looks and things like that, yet some of them don’t care about any of it. They only care about the man they’re with. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

Zhang Li is going to regret this.

Wang Jian kept these thoughts to himself, his expression showing nothing but a hint of melancholy. He asked Li Liping, "Did he tell you what’s in the prescription?"

"Hmm?" Li Liping shook her head. "No, he just mentioned it briefly."

Looking at Wang Jian, Li Liping seemed to make a decision. "After he gets back, we probably won’t be meeting like this anymore. I talked to Lao Zhang about the child-borrowing arrangement. He doesn’t regret it, but he said it won’t be necessary anymore."

Wang Jian nodded, recalling her earlier posture. "Then you..."

Li Liping knew what he was about to ask and cut him off. "That was about before."

Wang Jian saw a flicker of hatred in her eyes. She had intentionally left those traces behind.

He coughed lightly to change the subject. "I don’t think that prescription is what you think it is. Actually, disregarding the physical toll, I also know some toxic recipes that can make a man’s body react, but it’s just a superficial effect.

"Some toxins can enhance a man’s performance, but they damage the nerves. At first, it just creates a dependency, but later it causes permanent harm. Even if it seems to work in the beginning, it will eventually lead to true disability.

"I examined Zhang Li’s condition before. His problem is with his nerves and limbs. A toxic recipe could certainly stimulate a reaction, but if it allows him to perform in bed that quickly, the dosage in that prescription is definitely problematic.

"To be honest with you, my Medical Skills have improved recently. I’m confident I can cure Zhang Li’s condition without any harmful side effects. There’s absolutely no need for a toxic recipe, which means none of its nasty consequences either.

"But since I haven’t seen the prescription, I’m just speculating. Still, I’m probably not far from the truth.

"So, if you trust me, it’s best to let me see the recipe first. Then, based on the actual situation, we can decide whether to use it, or how it should be used."
