Chapter 131: Zhang Li’s Return (Part 1)

Should I trust Wang Jian?

Li Liping only needed a second to make up her mind. From her own perspective, she naturally trusted him. The only problem was, she knew Zhang Li all too well. He would never easily give up on a solution he had finally found.

Given Zhang Li’s stubborn personality, back when they had no other options, he would have rather let her be with other men. So now that he had a method—one he had already tested and proven effective—he would cherish it immensely. If someone were to show up now and say there was a problem with it, it would be tantamount to killing him.

Would Zhang Li even believe him...?

Li Liping frowned deeply and sighed. "I’m just afraid Lao Zhang won’t be willing to give up this hard-won hope."

After saying that, she turned to Wang Jian and asked, "Do you think Zhang Li will believe you can cure his illness? After all, you weren’t very confident about it before."

Wang Jian had mentioned it, but he had been vague, so Zhang Li and Zhang Quan hadn’t believed him. The question stumped Wang Jian. They both fell silent, as if picturing Zhang Li’s inevitable refusal. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

"Just tell him what I said," Wang Jian finally said, spreading his hands. It was all he could do. "Whether he agrees or not is up to him."

Li Liping agreed. The two of them sat in the courtyard for a while longer before going their separate ways. Before leaving, Wang Jian tried to hug Li Liping, but just like before, she didn’t let him.

This woman is so decisive. Is it a pity?

A twinge of regret did pass through Wang Jian’s heart, but he wasn’t a kid anymore. He was long past the age of feeling responsible after a single night with a woman.

After returning home, Wang Jian fell straight to sleep. He didn’t want to waste any more mental energy on this mess; everything depended on Zhang Li’s decision.

Life in the mountain village was peaceful, and time slipped by easily. Any uneventful day could float away before you even noticed.

While Wang Jian slept, Li Liping cleaned up the residue in the yard, got dressed, and left the house. She had to get to the train station, which meant leaving early. Their family didn’t own a car, so getting there usually involved taking a coach bus to the city, then transferring to a public bus. The first coach left at 6:30 AM, and missing it meant a forty-minute to an hour-long wait. It was only a little past five now, so no coaches were running yet.

Therefore, Li Liping had already arranged to catch a ride with a relative from the neighboring village, an acquaintance of Zhang Li’s. This relative was in the fresh seafood business and had to leave early for deliveries in the city, which was on her way.

Li Liping first had to ride her bicycle to the next village. Fortunately, the two villages weren’t far apart, but the ride still took over ten minutes. This relative had once gone into the crab business with Zhang Li, renting a few acres of fishponds outside the mountains to raise hairy crabs. It hadn’t lasted long. They gave it up after losing money for two years. However, their families didn’t grow distant just because the business failed. It was just that both families now had their own work, so they only got together occasionally.

Zhang Li had told her that this relative used to play in a band when he was young. She first heard that story back when she and Zhang Li had just started dating. In those days, they had endless things to talk about and were so much happier than they were now.

As Li Liping rode her bike for those ten-odd minutes, the sky began to brighten. From a distance, she saw an MPV parked in front of her relative’s house. She recognized the vehicle; they had removed the back seats to haul goods. The gate to the house was open, and a man and a woman were moving boxes into the van. Water seeped from the boxes, which were obviously filled with their catch.

"Liu Youcai!" Li Liping called out from her bike, pulling to a stop at the gate.

"Oh! Liping! Good, you’re here," Liu Youcai called out. He was just placing a box in the van when he heard her. He peeked his head from behind the car door, his eyes lighting up at the sight of her. Giving her a quick, smiling appraisal, he added, "We’ll be ready in just a few more minutes. Have a seat for a bit." He started toward her to greet her but stopped short, not getting too close since he was covered in dirty water stains.

"Have you eaten, Liping?" Liu Youcai’s wife, Jiang Na, came over as well. She was always very enthusiastic with guests. "There are just a few more boxes; we’ll be done in a minute. What time does Zhang Li’s train get in?"

"I grabbed a bite before I left," Li Liping said, greeting the couple with a smile. "The train arrives at seven, so there’s no rush. We have plenty of time. Please, take your time."

"Is there anything I can help with?" Li Liping felt a little embarrassed watching the couple bustle about, so she offered.

"No, no," Liu Youcai said, quickly waving his hands. "It’s not much left. You just watch from the side."

"Exactly," Jiang Na chimed in. "We don’t need your help. We’ll be done in a flash." After saying this, she turned and patted Liu Youcai. "Let’s get a move on."

She then glanced into the yard, and Li Liping’s gaze followed. Three more boxes of goods were waiting there. On the other side of the yard was a small pond they had built for fish farming. A buzzing sound emanated from it—the noise of an oxygen pump.

Li Liping didn’t have to wait long. Just as the couple had said, after she stood by watching for about ten minutes, they were ready to leave. Liu Youcai hadn’t been wrong; they didn’t have a large catch. After getting into the van, she saw only about ten boxes in the back. Their family had a partnership with a city restaurant and delivered a fresh catch every morning.

This was her first time riding in their van, and she felt quite awkward. The vehicle was filled with a fishy smell, and the first thing Li Liping did after getting in was roll down the window.

After getting in, Liu Youcai buckled his seatbelt and said, "It’s not far to the train station, but we can’t take the expressway, so it’ll take a bit longer. Probably over forty minutes, depending on the traffic. We should be able to get there just before seven."

"Did you tell Lao Zhang?" Liu Youcai asked as he started the engine. "If you’re willing to wait, I can bring you both back with me on my return trip." He pointed to the back of the van. "It’s no trouble to put the seats back in."

Hearing this, Li Liping waved her hands repeatedly to decline. "We’ll just take the coach back. They’ve been on a train all night; they must be exhausted."

"That’s true," Liu Youcai said. As he spoke, his gaze unintentionally fell on Li Liping’s thighs.

To welcome Zhang Li, Li Liping had put on makeup and a lace skirt he had bought for her. She had put a lot of effort into her appearance. Knowing he liked stockings, she had put on a pair. They weren’t full pantyhose, but thigh-highs, leaving a tantalizing strip of bare skin visible between the hem of her short skirt and the tops of the stockings.

Having come from the city, Li Liping knew a thing or two about dressing up. On top of that, today’s outfit was particularly bold, chosen specifically to get a reaction out of Zhang Li.

So when Liu Youcai caught a glimpse, he let out a silent whistle. He had noticed her the moment she arrived, of course, but seeing her standing was one thing. Now, with her sitting in the passenger seat, it was a completely different story.

Liu Youcai used the opportunity of making a turn to steal a few more glances.

Damn, I never really noticed before. Liping has such an incredible figure. Not only are her legs gorgeous, but that seatbelt is pulled taut, outlining the hills of her chest.

But Liu Youcai also realized that this was the first time she had ever been in his van. Whenever he had visited the Zhangs’ home to play mahjong or for dinner, Li Liping had always dressed conservatively. Seeing her like this today made his heart pound. The early morning was always when he was at his most virile. He was in no condition to handle this kind of stimulation.

Liu Youcai was suddenly reminded of a rumor about Zhang Li. He had never believed it before, but seeing Li Liping dressed like this, his mind couldn’t help but wander.

Her husband is impotent, yet she’s dressed so provocatively... Could it be that she’s been sex-starved for so long she can’t take it anymore?

Liu Youcai swallowed hard, his mind racing with fantasies. He barely heard a word Li Liping said, simply using the conversation as an excuse to steal more glances.

His gawking led to trouble. He nearly collided with another car on the road, startling them both.

Liu Youcai hastily pulled the van over to the side of the road, a cold sweat breaking out on his back. He didn’t dare let his eyes wander again.
