Chapter 114: 109 Who is Wang Jian?

"When did you get pricked here?" Wang Jian asked, squeezing the flesh on Cai Qiong’s thigh and pointing to a small red dot.

It was a tiny pinprick on the outer side of her thigh, so small that it would be easily missed without a close look.

"I don’t know." Cai Qiong saw it when Wang Jian pointed it out, but she was baffled. "Why is there a wound here?"

Although she was a psychologist, she could still tell the difference between a wound and folliculitis. She sank into thought, but after wracking her brain, she couldn’t remember how she got it.

Wang Jian frowned. "This is a fresh wound. It’s so fine that it might have been caused by a thin, soft needle like those used for acupuncture, or maybe it’s a puncture from something sharp."

Since he frequently handled silver needles, Wang Jian was very familiar with this kind of mark. He had felt something was odd the moment he saw the red dot on her leg.

As for why he was looking at her leg... When a man is relaxed, what’s so strange about admiring something beautiful for a little longer? It’s perfectly reasonable.

Wang Jian had just found an excuse for himself when Cai Qiong’s next words shattered his composure. "You have excellent eyesight. To think you found such a small wound on my leg. I might never have noticed it if you hadn’t looked so closely."

The moment the words left her mouth, Wang Jian froze. Cai Qiong was just as stunned, chiding herself for speaking without thinking. Didn’t that just announce to the world that he was staring at her legs? She scoffed inwardly. Let him look if he wants; why did I have to say it out loud?

After a moment of awkward silence, Wang Jian broke it with a light cough. "You probably scraped it somewhere without realizing. I need to check if it’s Gu Poison. We’re in a special situation right now, so we have to be careful about everything. I’m not trying to take advantage of you, don’t misunderstand."

Yes, he absolutely wasn’t trying to take advantage of her. In a situation like this, you can’t admit it, even if you’re caught red-handed.

Wang Jian looked up just in time to see Cai Qiong shoot him a look brimming with captivating charm. "Then look. Look closely."

Wang Jian’s reasoning was sound, so Cai Qiong knew she couldn’t blame him. Not daring to be careless herself, she pushed past her shyness and cooperated fully. "How do you need to look? Is this okay?"

Cai Qiong had been sitting with her legs crossed. Since Wang Jian needed to see, she changed her posture, spreading her legs slightly. This immediately presented him with quite a scenic view. As if feeling that still wasn’t enough, she shifted again as she spoke, placing her entire leg across his lap. Now, his view was almost completely unobstructed.

Wang Jian swallowed hard, gave her a mental thumbs-up, and immediately began reciting the Heart Clarity Spell.

He really couldn’t be blamed. He might be an ass man, but he was defenseless against beauty. Cai Qiong’s legs were so fair, long, and straight—who doesn’t appreciate beautiful things? He could only keep repeating to himself, "This is an examination. I’m being serious. I am a legitimate doctor."

Reciting this mantra did indeed clear away his distracting thoughts.

Studying medicine and being a doctor—this was the deepest conviction in Wang Jian’s heart.

Until now, Cai Qiong had only ever watched Wang Jian practice medicine from the sidelines. Experiencing it firsthand revealed his truly unique nature. Her forwardness just now had been partly to test the limits of his self-control. To her surprise, while Wang Jian had initially felt a flicker of mortal desire, he had somehow calmed himself while staring at her leg, his gaze growing intensely focused.

His reaction was the complete opposite of a typical man’s.

As someone well-versed in psychology, Cai Qiong found his reaction puzzling at first, but she quickly realized he had mentally fortified himself. In a situation like this, it wasn’t hard to guess what kind of mental barrier he had erected. It was clear that Wang Jian’s dedication to practicing medicine surpassed his physical desires.

At this thought, Cai Qiong’s gaze toward Wang Jian changed, her admiration for him now unconcealed. If Wang Jian had simply taken advantage of her, she might not have resisted, but she would definitely have looked down on him. Now, after this turnaround, far from resisting, she wouldn’t even misconstrue his intentions if he were to actually take advantage of her. A doctor’s heart is benevolent. What was there to misinterpret?

While Cai Qiong was lost in her thoughts, Wang Jian had already determined the nature of the wound. Although Cai Qiong was no longer young, her skin was extremely delicate; the wound appeared as just a red dot because of her skin’s sensitivity. A thorough check showed that her pulse was normal, with no fluctuations indicating a Gu Worm. After carefully observing the wound, Wang Jian concluded it was just a common puncture wound.

He figured she had likely been scratched through her pants while in the mountains the previous day, which would explain why the wound resembled a pinprick.

Wang Jian breathed a sigh of relief. "Alright, it’s nothing serious. Just a simple scratch, unrelated to Gu Poison. You can relax."

Hearing this, Cai Qiong smiled, a weight lifting from her heart. She then teased, "So, were my legs nice to look at?"

The question immediately made Wang Jian flush with embarrassment.

Cai Qiong laughed heartily, pulling her leg back and smoothing her clothes, all while pretending not to see the look of reluctance in Wang Jian’s eyes.

The two sat chatting and laughing for a while before a buzzing sound from outside drew their attention.

"Huh, is that an airplane?"

The sound, though distant, was deafening and highly penetrating.

"That has to be a helicopter," Cai Qiong added. They exchanged a surprised glance, then walked out of the house and stood in the garden, looking toward the source of the noise.

At first, they couldn’t see anything, but after a few seconds, a dark shape appeared over a distant mountain, flying rapidly toward them. The sound grew louder and louder; the thing was incredibly fast.

"Is that a military aircraft?"

A voice spoke up beside them. Wang Jian turned to see Cai Xing and Cai Wenji. Cai Xing was staring in astonishment at the helicopter flying straight toward them. "Why is there a military helicopter here?" he wondered aloud.

Hearing this, Cai Qiong cast a strange look at Wang Jian and said, "That... is probably a question for Wang Jian."

"Hmm?"

Cai Xing and Cai Wenji were taken aback. The wistful expressions they wore earlier were gone, replaced by curiosity as they both turned to look at him.

Cai Qiong then explained the situation with Wang Jian’s master. By the time she finished, the helicopter had reached the airspace above the Cai Family estate. It hovered for half a minute before two ropes were thrown down, and four figures slid down them.

The arrivals were in civilian clothes, but their efficient movements made it obvious to any discerning eye that they were military personnel. After landing, the four of them detached the ropes with a flick, gestured upwards, and the helicopter circled away.

Wang Jian’s group watched this unfold, all of them too stunned to speak. Even Cai Xing, a man who had seen his share of grand events, was rendered speechless by the display.

The four men had a similar, unmistakable military bearing that couldn’t be hidden. The young man in the lead, though not old, had a resolute face. He jogged over to Wang Jian’s group, snapped to attention, saluted, and announced crisply, "Feng Yan, reporting for duty as ordered by my superiors."

After completing his salute, Feng Yan lowered his voice slightly and asked, "Excuse me... which of you is Wang Jian?"
